The other day I went for a walk, and came across these gentlemen working on the water pipes under the street. It was already 7PM, but they told me they can only do this work after hours because it affects the water supply to businesses on the street.
The two fellows in the hole are both Irishmen, from County Mayo and County Galway.
They were friendly and funny. They were still there – looking a lot more tired – when I walked back past the same spot at 10PM. I have really been impressed with how fast the work crews are moving. Although it can be frustrating when the work closes lanes or entire roads, it’s great that the job is getting done! It must be rough on the workers and their families to working odd hours. May they be safe on the job and duly rewarded for their labors!

3rd Submission in the Series “Show Me Yours and I’ll Show You Mine”
Hi, Paul;
Would you accept photos from someone who was raised in Gloucester , but has lived elsewhere since being married ? I still have many ties , get home , and made sure that my children ( and now grandchildren ) could dive and swim off the rocks on the Back Shore .( It was a right of passage my father used to tell my siblings and me …. if we swam back , he kept us ) .
I have been a decorative painter most of my adult life , and now am painting on canvases and really going back to my roots and doing seascapes , many based on photos of Gloucester .
I had the good fortune of growing up in Gloucester many moons ago , and during a visit last summer , found out about GoodMorningGloucester.org . I found this blog , and really liked it .Fun . Now I will share a little . First , I have neither a FB or website for my work . I paint mainly for the joy of it after spending many years as a decorative painter . I do have my work electronically filed , however . .
I too like to see painters tools and toys , and see how they lay out their palette .
So this is me ! I am a paint slut ; I collect oil paints . My box was made by my husband and is quite large . I love white and not ashamed to say so . And I use baby oil to clean my brushes and thin my paints . No more fumes again !
My 3 children each have at least 2 paintings done of their favorite spots in Gloucester .
That is my joy . It is so simple .
Love to all who may remember me . Mimi Lind Rufe .
I enjoy Good Morning Gloucester and found your blog ..
Let me know and thanks !

The scaffolding doesn’t exactly add to the aesthetic value, but it doesn’t totally hide the imposing elegance of the building either. I really look forward to seeing the results of this important restoration!

Last Saturday, the Gloucester Public School District Arts Festival took over several venues in the center of Gloucester, including City Hall, the Cape Ann Museum, the Sawyer Free Library, Alchemy, and Art Haven. I’ll be posting photos of the displays in a few of these locations.
For today, here are some photos of the musical presentations at City Hall by the GHS Chorus and the GHS Docksiders. As usual, their performances were outstanding!
The GHS Chorus shared their talent with the communityThe Docksiders were in great form! While the Docksiders played, it was hard not to want to dance. Some children gave in to the music and started dancing together. The angle of this panorama makes it look like there was more empty space than there really was There were lots of people in the balcony, in the seats, and at the activity tables around the auditorium. For the grand finale, the Chorus, the Docksiders, and other children from the public schools performed “We Are the World”.
There were many other beautiful moments during these performances, including the vocal talents of a student who won prizes for her performance at Disney World, but I could not capture them all.
It was appropriate that all these talented young people were performing under the message written on the wall: “Build not for today alone but for tomorrow as well.” Teaching these children and young adults to develop their talents, to share their gifts, and to dare to dream of great achievements, is an important way of building for tomorrow. Thanks and kudos to all the teachers, coaches, etc., who help the children of our community realize their potential!

This week’s artist is a little bit older than the ones I’ve shared with you the past fewweeks. Becca’s a part of Action Inc.’s Compass Youth Program that comes to do art with us at Art Haven on Friday afternoons. She painted this beautiful imitation of Claude Monet’s Carrieres-Saint-Denis on a bottle this past Friday! She’s done lots of other beautiful work with us as well and we can’t wait to see what else she creates!

He was a handsome giant and a mighty hunter. His father gave him the power of wading through the depths of the sea, or, as others say, of walking on its surface.
Orion
by Melissa Lee;
“Orion was the son of Poseidon (Neptune) and Euryale. Like most of Poseidon’s children, Orion was a man of gigantic proportions. He also was quite the hunter, and the constellation that bears his name forms the shape of a great hunter in a defensive pose against Taurus, the bull.
While a young man Orion fell in love with Merope, the daughter of Dionysus and Ariadne.) Orion sought to marry Merope and he remained in the king’s service for some time attempting to win his favor, but Oenopion dragged his feet in arranging the marriage. Impatient, Orion raped Merope. Naturally, the king decided to take revenge. He got Orion drunk, and when the giant fell asleep, Oenopion put his eyes out and threw him out towards the sea.” CLICK HERE TO READ MORE
This www.gloucesterwebcam.com local webcam portal project was an idea I had last year to have as many webcams streaming from local businesses or organizations as possible which highlight the incredible vistas that we as people that live and work here get to enjoy each and every day.
The idea was to have the organization install the webcam, have them embed the webcam feed on their own websites as well and have a link to each business website on the Gloucester webcam portal website to showcase their business as well.
Tim Blakeley from Gloucester Bytes provided the initial installation at ridiculously cheap cost because he believed in the project.

It was raining pretty good but I set up the tripod first and then attached the camera and held my baseball cap over it. This was a 6.5 second exposure. More to come.

I’ve got another picturing poetry finished work for you this week – they’re just too good not to share! Also, check out the Art Haven web site for a new session starting next week with clay monsters, graffiti, and abstract explorations! Without further ado, here is a poem about Geckos written by almost 8-year-old Navaeh:
Big green eyes
That never blink
Geckos are more mysterious
Than you think
Geckos are found
All over the world
Rainforests, deserts, mountains & lakes
Gecko’s best friend is his cousin, the snake
They climb up the ceilings
And they walk across walls
But thanks to his sticky feet
He never ever falls
Some people don’t like geckos
Some people like ducks
But in southeast Asia
They are good luck!

Catch this video now before it goes viral on Youtube.
I took this video when I brought Blaze out for a run in our yard. I didn’t See the Turkey at first, when I did I ran inside and got my camera. I just got the camera up to my eye when Blaze spotted the Turkey. Luckily for the Turkey he can fly just like EJ said they could. This Video got two thumbs up from Professional Videographer Ed Collard. Eat your Heart out Craig Kimberly!
