Beauport Hotel at Dusk

My View of Life on the Dock

How cool is that? Thank you Beauport Hotel for this community support. What a gorgeous venue and fitting locale for this work! Cape Ann Reads is led by the 4 public libraries of Cape Ann. Deliberations for the first ever Cape Ann Creates for Cape Ann Reads Picture Book Contest are in process and underway!
After a year of monthly programming by the libraries and community partners, the Cape Ann Reads contest is in full swing. Cape Ann residents of all ages, students attending school on Cape Ann, and people who work on Cape Ann were invited to create part or all of a picture book for consideration to be published. A first edition printing of one of these submissions will be published in 2017, timed to coincide with the 75th anniversary of a Caldecott award for the children’s book, Little House, by Virginia Lee Burton, eminent Gloucester artist, author and illustrator.

Opportunities to contribute or sponsor the Cape Ann Reads contest are available.
Sponsors and contributions can boost awards that the jury panels may suggest as they complete their evaluations and determine recognition options. Sponsor contribution opportunities could include prizes to artists and writers, underwriting the publishing, and any exhibitions and readings to be held after publication in all the communities.
Thank you, Beauport Hotel!

A friend and I went to the Beauport Hotel last night for their “Deck the Halls” event. We had a really nice time and it was just what I needed to help get further into the holiday mood. The Beauport, which is exquisitely decorated with what I have previously called Pottery Barn Meets America’s Cup, looks even more beautiful dressed in its holiday best. Kudos to designer, Dana Markos, who was transformed the hotel’s grand main floor into a winter wonderland. Kudos to the hotel staff for their holiday cheer and gracious smiles as guests mingled, nibbled, and sipped.

Fleece blankets, just in case. Made us feel:

All I can say is don’t miss it next year! Several new establishments joined this fantastic annual fundraiser for the Cape Ann YMCA held at Cruiseport, 6 Rowe Square, Gloucester, MA. All photographs from November 10, 2016.

Here’s Beauport 1606

Less than ten tickets for sale as of this morning. Cape Ann Chamber was in high spirits! Gotta love the high tech ping pong ball prep 🙂
It’s a busy October at Cape Ann Chamber: Cape Ann Plein Air next week; Annual Chamber Online Auction (Oct 3 – Oct 14); Business Womens Fall Luncheon October 13 at Beauport Hotel with keynote speaker Adrienne Haslett-Davis; Business After Hours October 20 at Rockport Inn and Suites; and 34th Annual Essex Clamfest October 22 (rain date Oct 23)

How exciting that Holland America and Trails and Sails are coming to Gloucester and Cape Ann this weekend! There are many special offers and events to help welcome visitors. This will be the second of three big cruise ships coming into port this month to Cruiseport Gloucester. It won’t leave Gloucester harbor till 11PM. Last time I expected sight seeing, museum visits and shopping as reasons passengers disembarked. They did that. If you go by the clicker counter, 844 (give or take another hundred), plus 650 who pre-booked excursions, came ashore.

I was surprised by how many passengers from a seemingly all inclusive cruise opted to take a whale watch trip and dine out. They did that, too. I’ll report back fun facts, but today I wanted to post about the special offers and events.
Working TOGETHER to welcome everyone is a beautiful thing. Thanks to the organizers (with a big shout out to Jeanne Hennessey, Joe Ciolino, Kathie Gilson, Peter Webber, Lorre Anderson, Bob Ryan and Elizabeth Carey):

CATA created a special map for continuous downtown trolley loops (“frequency is key”) and to Rocky Neck and Rockport. The special pass covers their bus routes. What an incredible deal! They are extending operations until 10PM. A new addition: Beauport Ambulance Services will be offering a shuttle bus for an Essex/Manchester/Cruiseport route. Kathie Gilson prepared and made hundreds of copies of a lobster roll list (a big common request), special events, and the Gimme Sound music schedule. Kudos to the volunteers, organizations and businesses for their hard work and creativity.
And now for Gloucester downtown Special events and offers. You can click logos to follow links.
