Parish picnic fun and games 1

From the Holy Family Parish Picnic last weekend.

Game organizer “Uncle Tony” asks: can you keep a hula hoop going while patting your head and rubbing your tummy?

The answer: yes!

A funny thing happened to my friend visiting Gloucester

Bill Rothschild writes-

Dear Joe:
When we we at the sidewalk sale on Main St this year, we had to cross the street near the police station, where cars had to turn left of right since Main was closed for the event. A lady in a car stopped to let us cross. As we did she yelled out to us "In Gloucester we say Thank You to drivers that stop for us".   A tad off, but no big deal.
About a week ago, Ned, one of the paramedics I work with was arriving in Gloucester late at night to join his fishing partner on their boat the Fish Pig, docked at the Cape Ann Marina. He had never been to Gloucester before and was following his GPS when it told him to turn right off of 128 at one of the lights, which he changed lanes to do. A woman in a nearby car apparently had little respect for this driving move and let Captain Ned know it by yelling out to him, " Hey, nice fucking turn signal, ass-hole!" I  Wonder if they were the same woman, or if some type of driving sarcasm is overtaking the local ladies of Gloucester?
Anyhow, I thought it might make a story for GMG.

Pete Frates Charity Auction

Dear Joey,
I write to you hoping that you are willing to assist in spreading the
word about a charity auction I am running for a young man with
numerous ties to Gloucester. Pete Frates is a 27 year old from
Beverly. His uncle is Chris Frates of the Gloucester Police Department
and his aunt is Erin Frates, the civil clerk at Gloucester District
Court.
Pete was recently diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease (ALS). He has
made it his mission to raise awareness about the disease and I have
made it my mission to raise money to defray his significant uninsured
medical costs. You can learn more about Pete at www.petefrates.com.
We’re running an online auction at www.bizulu.com/PeteFrates on
Sunday, September 30, 2012. The auction starts at 8:00 p.m. and people
can take part from the comfort of their homes. Most of the prizes I
managed to secure for the auction were donated by the generous people
from the Cape Ann area and I thank them for that!
Thanks in advance for any help you are willing to provide.
Highest Regards,
Joe Orlando

Leslie Heffron writes-

Hi Joey – I’m moving back to Gloucester to a condo – can’t wait to get involved in the block parties, the Hive, and the Rocky Neck Community Center.  I’ve been keeping track of all the great things going on thanks to you and the contributors.
!  Anyway, I remember reading something on the blog about an insurance agency you recommended.  I need to get homeowner’s insurance. So if you could please email me the name of the agency I’d appreciate it.  Also, if you know any companies that paint, service heating/cooling units, do general repairs I’d also appreciate those names.  I need to have a few things done to the condo before I move my furniture into it.  Thanks so much!  Leslie

Kate Lufkin Represents! In Zimbabwe

Hey Joey. We’ve met a few times, I’m Kate Lufkin, Laurie Lufkin’s sister.  Your wife also went to high school with my sister Sarah.

Anyway, I just took a trip to Zimbabwe and Mozambique to volunteer at an HIV clinic for a few weeks (but I had some fun while I was there, too!) and Laurie reminded me to bring along my sticker…So, here they are! The first one is me on the campus of Africa University (where I was based out of for teaching. I was considered faculty…wtf??) Same with the 2nd and the 3rd. The 5th and 6th are at Victoria Falls, one of the most incredible things I’ve ever seen in my life…Finally the last one is on a boat cruise I took on the Zambezi river. It was pretty awesome! I saw elephants, crocs, hippos, you name it!

Feel free to use all or none of them, but I thought I’d send them along.

Thanks for your blog, I love it!

Kate
