Thank you to Dawn and Michelle for inviting me to stay and have a bite of Esme’s wonderful luau birthday feast. John and Dawn prepared the most yummy pulled pork, served on Mandy’s homemade potato rolls, and guests contributed super delicious accompaniments, including the best bean salad, homemade, crunchy coleslaw, and Nicole Duckworth’s to-die-for death-by-chocolate cake.

IPAC Inox-Stainless Steel Fresh Herb Mill

It’s time to start jazzing up your marinades, salads, and side dishes with the fabulous flavors of fresh herbs, and produce from local farms! Put the winter recipes away…”Summer Cooking” has officially begun! Think Fresh, Fabulous and Flavorful when preparing meals…This week many CSA Farm Programs kick off their 2014 along with dozens of weekly community Farmers markets throughout the North Shore area.   Because I’m so excited to finally have an abundance of fresh locally grown produce, and herbs at my finger tips for the next several months, I thought I’d feature my IPAC Inox-Stainless Steel Fresh Herb Mill.  This handheld mill is by far the most used kitchen gadget, in my kitchen during the summer months. It’s easy to use, and cuts through herbs with minimal bruising, making pretty flake like cuts that are the perfect size to use to dress up a platted meal with a fresh professional look.

*Friendly Reminder~ “The Cape Ann Farmers Market” held at Stage Forth Park, begins Thursday June 12 at 3 pm.

Pet of the Week- Emily

emily
This might be a family looking to adopt me!  My name is Emily, I am a four-month-old female Retriever mix.   I will be large when I am fully grown. I love dogs, people, toys and splashing in the kiddie pools here at the Cape Ann Animal Aid (CAAA), located at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter, Four Paws Lane in Gloucester.   I love to cuddle and then going outdoors to play.
I am a bit shy with new people, but it doesn’t take me long to warm up and then I can show my affectionate ad playful side.  I hope you might visit the shelter soon and our website at CapeAnnAnimalAid.org
If you are up to the challenge a new pup can bring – and the fun, too, stop by the CAAA soon and ask for Emily!

Fish Shack, Bradley Wharf, 1934

On the way to Motif No. 1, this shack belonged to lobsterman Tony Contrino for 70 years. He was also a Rockport Harbormaster.

We’ve got a moth down… I repeat we’ve got a moth down. Send In A Medic STAT!

Prognosis, not good.  This big ass moth had his belly half smooshed on the sidewalk just outside of Last Stop Variety.

Moth ID from all you butterfly/moth freaks out there please?

(the only reason I’m saying this is a moth is because the owner corrected me inside Last Stop)  I woulda said Butterfly all day every day.

The GDT Is The Voice Of Reason In The Beverly High Cigar Atrocity

Editorial: MIAA, school chiefs should learn from Beverly cigar fiasco

Gloucester Daily Times

High school graduations have once again made spring an optimistic time across Cape Ann and around the North Shore.

In nearly every community, we are treated to a sea of cap-and-gown clad seniors, valedictory speeches that are at once soaring, hopeful and humorous, and smiles of unfiltered joy from young men and women who walk across the stage to accept their diplomas.

Leave it to the adults to stomp out the fun.

Check out the entire editorial here

I was gonna write a rant about the ridiculousness of it all but I was just too disgusted.

Politically Correct crap times a bajillion- the ruination of our great country.

Eastern Point Lit House Grand Opening is a Splendid Success!

photo 3-1Although unable to attend the Eastern Point Lit House grand opening gala celebration, I heard through the grapevine that it was a fabulous success and very well attended by a crowd of friends, family, and well-wishers. I also heard that Ken and Nicole Duckworth and Laura from the Cave provided an array of super tasty treats and refreshments and that they were wonderfully lavish and delicious. Congratulations to Chris, Jenn, and Michelle and best wishes for great success with EPLH!

Puffin Escorts Clipper Round the World Racers In New York Harbor

My son Brian had a nostalgic few hours yesterday when he and his wife Karen greeted and escorted the participants in the 2013-14 Clipper Round the World Yacht Race down New York Harbor to the start of the next leg of the competition which will terminate in Derry-Londonderry, Northern Ireland after an estimated 14 day crossing of the North Atlantic. The sailors will then go on to Dan Helder, Netherlands and back to London U.K for the finish next month.

In April and May, 2006, Brian crewed on the 68 foot New York Clipper on the leg of the race that took it from Quindao, China across the Pacific to Victoria, British Columbia; over 5,000 nautical miles and more than thirty days out of sight of land through rain, gales, sleet and sub freezing temperatures.

On Friday, Brian and Karen visited the fleet at North Cove, not far from the World Trade Center, as they laid over having completed the previous leg of the race which started in Jamaica. Yesterday, Brian and Karen fired up the trusty Honda on their 24 foot Nimble Nomad, Puffin, and steamed from its berth in Mill Basin, Brooklyn, to the Statue of Liberty where they had front row seats for the parade of visiting racing yachts as they departed New York. Puffin then escorted the racers to the Narrows  as the Brooklynites wished them fair winds.

Here are some of Brian’s photos.
