Another new song by Allen Estes ~ perfect for the summer kick-off!

He’s on a roll, folks.  Every week we hear a new Allen Estes song — and they keep getting better too!  This gem is featured on Local Music Seen TONIGHT at 6:30 on Cape Ann TV Channel 12.  Chelsea Berry is Allen’s guest on this week’s show — and she has a beautiful new song too — must be something in the air!

If case you forgot, Chelsea will be opening for Chris Isaak at North Shore Music Theatre on June 28 with her new band — and they ROCK.  Imagine Chelsea’s powerful voice soaring over a rockin’ new band.  This will be the first time you can see them together on a magical night in an intimate listening venue with perfect sound.  Tickets are selling fast, so don’t wait until the last minute — get tickets here.

Sun’s out today.  Seven shows tonight.  Summer’s here in spirit.  Check out the music lineup here.

Don’t take these guys for granted

… just because you can see them every Tuesday at Jalapenos.  They are some of the best musicians on Cape Ann.  And once in a while guests show up and sit in.  Last week it was Allen Estes.  You never know what will happen.

Yesterday we published a clip from Celebrate Gloucester 2010 and people asked for more.  Here it is.  It’s KBMG Electric and they ROCK!

Now if you can’t get into Jalapenos to see these guys tonight because it’s too crowded, there are other choices.  And if you’ve never seen Henley Douglas, Jr, you should really go down to the Rhumbline at 10 and check him out.  See full music lineup here.

Want to work in the Concert Business?

We need help.  You probably know that we’re producing a new concert series at North Shore Music Theatre this summer featuring top local talent on stage with national recording stars (more info here).

As you can see from this video (taken from the Celebrate Gloucester DVD) concerts are a lot of work — and we do EVERYTHING, from dreaming up the idea to organizing talent, lights, sound, staging porta-potties … to convincing someone to purchase a VIP ticket when he wasn’t planning on it (you can see that in the video) to designing, printing and hanging posters to … well you get the idea.

So, if this looks like fun to you and you’re willing to work as hard as we do, we’ve got a job for you.  And it pays.  20 hours a week to start.  Full time later this year.  You need lots of energy, just the right amount of ambition, a love of live music, brilliant communication skills (texting doesn’t count) and fairly thick skin.

If this sounds like you, we’ll have a lot of fun together!  Call Vickie or Peter at 978-525-9093 or click here to contact us.

It’s Monday.  That means Bandit Kings host an open jam @ Rhumbline.  Always a good time.  Big music week here on Cape Ann.  You can’t get to everything so check out the full week’s music lineup and start thinking about where you want to go.

Homemade Zip Line ~ engineering by a 9-year-old using stuff from the gerage

Well we don’t usually like to brag about our super talented son 🙂 but today we will.  Not only did he come up with the idea, design and test this zip line himself, he even gave us credit for the tiny amount of work we did, which consisted of getting the rope up in the tree and tightening it enough to work.

Some people think of Sunday as a slow entertainment day, but not on Cape Ann.  There’s music playing RIGHT NOW and it will continue through the night.  Nine events to choose from.  Check it out here.

Video- Coast Guard medevacs 60-year-old man southeast of Gloucester

The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 60-year-old man from a charter vessel 19 miles southeast of Gloucester, Mass., Thursday.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Boston command center received a call at 12:16 p.m. from the 75-foot charter vessel Yankee Clipper, reporting that a 60-year old man aboard was experiencing chest pains.

A Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter crew and a Station Gloucester 47-foot Motor Life Boat crew immediately launched to assist.

The man was safely hoisted from the 47-foot Motor Life Boat to the helicopter and taken to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

"Helicopters provide the Coast Guard the capability to assist mariners in urgent need of medical care in a prompt, timely and effective manner," said Lt. j.g. Jared Carbajal, Public Affairs Officer at  Air Station Cape Cod.

Oops wrong song title ~ the real one is better

In yesterday’s post (see here) I got the title wrong to my favorite new Pete Lindberg song.  The real title is Death, Taxes, & Matches — perfect title.

I also forgot to mention that at the end of Tuesday’s spectacular show at Minglewood, Pete led ALL the performers in The Weight, which turned into a crowd sing-along and really got to me (I’m a big  Levon Helm fan and we had him booked at North Shore Music Theatre for July 7 — bad luck for all).

In this video, Pete does an excellent version of another Band favorite, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, at Celebrate Gloucester 2010.  Not many people can pull this off solo.  We should all be grateful that Pete’s voice is getting better!

It’s almost the weekend.  Lots of great choices starting tonight.  See the full music lineup here.

And don’t forget the Herb Pomeroy tribute concert on Friday that benefits the Berklee/Gloucester Scholarship Fund.

Ghost writer revealed, SXSW star visits Minglewood & 2 great songs about matches

OK, we admit it.  Vickie’s GMG posts are not always by Vickie.  Sometimes they’re by Peter.  This could be because Richard Gaines  once called us “interchangeable”.  Or it could be because we’re both insanely busy and sometimes she doesn’t have time to post.  Actually, sometimes we co-write the posts.  Anyhow, that’s why we’ve newly identified ourselves as team FOBs and you now see both of us in the photo.  So you can try to guess which one of us writes each post.  Just put your guess in the comments and maybe we’ll do something about it.

Let’s all thank Pete Lindberg for bringing Tristen to Minglewood last night.  Watch the video and you’ll  see why she is SOOOOO GOOD (see what SXSW says about her).  Also check out this video of her song Matchstick Murder. (No, Tristen, we’re not afraid).

Now, we can’t mention Pete Lindberg without reference to his great new song “I Won’t Pay for Matches” (Please correct me, Pete, if I got the title wrong).  Next time you see him, be sure to request it.  We’re all waiting patiently for him to record it (well not so patiently, really).

Before I went to Minglewood, I was at Shalin Liu for Greg & Francie’s spectacular presentation/concert.  No amps, no mics.  Just a harpsichord on stage in one of the most perfect acoustic settings on Earth.  I was in the back row and I could easily hear every nuance.  Beautiful!

All this on a Tuesday night!  There’s simply no way to see all the great music on Cape Ann.  You just have to choose.  See the full lineup here for some help with that.

And don’t forget the Herb Pomeroy tribute concert on Friday that benefits the Berklee/Gloucester Scholarship Fund.
