Hi Joey,
This week, we’re talking about:
- The “lack of inventory” fallacy
- Views
- 8 properties in various states of repair and disrepair
Meet the cast of Fame Jr., tonight on Cape Ann TV — see the play live @ O’Maley this week
Heidi Dallin interviews the cast and crew of “Fame Jr.” for a Cape Ann TV special that airs tonight at 6PM on Channel 12.
If you haven’t seen the show, your last chance is this week: Thursday & Friday, March 6 & 7 at 7PM or Saturday & Sunday, March 8&9 at 1pm.
Tickets are available at the door.
If you can watch the special tonight, see it on the Web at Cape Ann TV’s wicked cool streaming service here.
VIDEO: Laissez les bons temps rouler (Let the good times roll) it’s Mardi Gras!
Well, here in frosty New England, it used to be just another Tuesday in the dead of winter. But once Henri Smith moved to Gloucester (after Katrina blew is house down — see short bio here) we started celebrating Mardi Gras and now you have plenty of opportunities to celebrate on Cape Ann. Here are a few:
Eat and drink at Lat43 and Minglewood from 11:30 – close today and 10% of what you spend goes to help send YMCA Teens on their service learning trips to New Orleans and the Navajo Nation. Plus you can enter a raffle to win cool prizes (including 4 tickets to see Grammy-winner Charles Neville of the Neville Brothers with Henri Smith on Friday at The Larcom Theatre just down the road in Beverly).
Great music tonight all over town and music is the best way to celebrate. See the complete live music schedule here.
Any time you like you can see Henri Smith and Charles Neville’s 2012 Mardi Gras concert at Minglewood Tavern on Cape Ann TV’s wicked cool streaming site here.
If you’re NOLA homesick, check out the live webcams here.
Maybe — just maybe — if we celebrate Mardi Gras today, we’ll heat up Cape Ann and usher in Spring a tad earlier. Laissez les bons temps rouler!
VIDEO: Excellent songs up for Oscars tonight — and lots of great music in town too
OK, tonight most of us will be celebrating films, but Oscar night is also a perfect time celebrate great songs — and this is a particularly good year for song nominations.
Our two favorites are “Happy” by Pharrell Williams (the guy with the funny Smokey the Bear hat who won the Record of the Year Grammy with Daft Punk and Nile Rodgers) from the movie Despicable Me 2; and “Ordinary Love” by U2 from the movie Mandella: Long Walk to Freedom. I particularly like Pharrell Williams’ “Happy” video (not from the movie). Check out this dancing!
Among the Best Picture nominees is American Hustle, part of which was filmed down the road in Salem.
If you like to be out on Oscar night and just follow the events on your phone, there’s plenty of excellent music, starting with The Jazz Brewers at the Brew Pub at 5pm and one of our favorites, Inge Berge, at The Rhumb Line at 7:30. See tonight’s full live music schedule here.

SPECIAL SCREENING – “Divorce Corp.” (Sun. Mar. 9 @ 4:00pm)
By Robert Newton on January 15, 2014

For roughly 50% of American families divorce is an unpleasant fact of life. Dealing with divorce and its effects destroys lives and bankrupts individuals every day. Family law, which barely existed for most of our country’s history, has morphed into a gigantic industry over the past several decades. Learn first-hand about the excesses and injustices rampant in the U.S. family court system. Do not miss the riveting film that offers a spotless condemnation of family courts across America. In interviews with top insiders and an array of litigants, a place aptly termed “the last fiefdom of lawlessness and tyranny,” is uncovered.
DATE:
SUNDAY, MARCH 9TH @ 4:00PM
TICKETS:
$10.00 ADULTS / $8.50 STUDENTS & SENIORS / $7.00 CINEMA MEMBERS
What did we tell you about Darlingside? Watch this video and see for yourself …
A few weeks ago (in this post), we told you to watch these guys based on their being featured in last months Noise Magazine. Well, guess what? Last week at the New England Music Awards they won “Pop Act of the Year”. And their video “Terrible Things” is featured in this month’s Noise Magazine (see video reviews here). And as usual, The Noise is right. Check out the video below:
So keep you’re eyes on them while you go out and party this weekend. Tons of great music — see full weekend schedule here.
I may have to rethink the whole “getting on an airplane ever again” thing
I hope to god these aren’t the people making flights safe for us.
If this was your flight crew you gotta pin your hopes of survival at negative 5000% right?

Poptart Karma
This mom knew exactly what she was doing here didn’t she?
No kid is gonna offer up that Pop Tart. No frickin way. The only obvious way out for this little youngster was to head out the door and away from the evil mommy. Mom set her up for this faceplant pure and simple.
You don’t think next time big momma asks Parker to share she’s gonna have this facial etched in her brain? Next time she ought to up her game and lay a minefield of mousetraps along her path to the way out for a little extra effect.
You can rest assured next time Mommy Dearest asks little Parker for a pop tart she is gonna be making a bee line to mommy before she gets the wire hanger treatment. Pavlov has nothing on this mother of the year candidate.
Tough love. Tough love indeed.
You’re OK Get Up. You’re OK. You’re OK. Get Up. It Just Scared You Honey…
Did you hear the thunk? I mean straight up couldn’t lay a more solid forehead plant on that bar.
And then the mother chuckles a little before she tries to convince the kid that he didn’t just get completely annihilated.
Total compassion out of the mom right there. She ain’t raising no softie!
Define Getting Bundled: see video
Is this your move?
Like when your kid gets destroyed on the playground do you give them the old “Shake it off” routine?
I feel like there are two completely different camps on this. Mothers that would be crying harder than the child and coddling them and then other moms that will pick the kid up, give em a boot in the ass and tell them to run up that slide til they get it right.

Calvin Swims With Sea Turtles From Martin Del Vecchio
Joey, here’s a video from our recent trip to St. John, USVI. We spent the trip looking for sea turtles, and finally found them on our last day.
We stayed at the Concordia Eco-Resort, which I highly recommend to anybody looking to avoid the madding crowds.
Parade of Sails Through Gloucester Inner Harbor
Continuing with ” reruns” while in Mexico, the Parade of Sails is another favorite event. So looking forward to this year’s Schooner Festival!

How In The World Did Yodeling Ever Become A Thing?
Will you look at this guy? Seems like a nice enough bloke right? Meet him on the street in plainclothes, love to tip one back with him.
But then you put him in the lederhosen, tights, bib, funny hat, I mean what the frick is going on over there?
It’s gotta be the Octoberfest beer, right? Just get flat out shithoused, that’s the only explanation for making a conscious decision to dress up and sing like this.
Let’s strap on the tights, get crushed and yodel. That’s what I always say.
12 hours of yodeling or 12 hours of elevator muzak- gotta pick one, which one ya got?
Are there anything more funny than post wisdom teeth removal videos?
Fish on Fridays
The Fish on Fridays series is a collaboration between Gloucester photographers Kathy Chapman and Marty Luster. Look for various aspects of Gloucester’s centuries-old fishing industry highlighted here on Fridays.
This winter has been tough on everyone, but the fishing industry has been particularly hard hit. In this week’s video, storm scenes set the stage for a chat with Steve Connolly Seafood‘s Romeo Solviletti who describes the effects of this stormy and frigid winter on Gloucester’s fleet, processors and customers.
Thanks to GMG’s own weatherman, Peter J. Lovasco, for his report during a 66 mph blast on the back shore.
