Live tonight, Radio tomorrow: Gracie Curran LIVE with Victor Wainwrignt @ Larocm tonight & Jon Butcher on 104.9 tomorrow AM

Two great chances to connect with local stars — Tonight Boston Music Award nominee Gracie Curran and her hot band are live on stage with Blues Music Award winner Victor Wainwright and his smokin’ band from Savanna GA right down the road at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre.  Doors @ 7pm Concert @ 8.  Let’s show these two young, rising stars that a little rain & wind won’t stop us from having fun.  Good seats still left (especially in the balcony).  Get them here.

Then, tomorrow morning you can hear Gloucester’s own Jon Butcher on Aurelia Nelson’s North Shore 104.9 radio show Curtain Up at 9AM (don’t forget to set your clocks back or you’ll be listening in at 8am instead).  Jon will fill you in on his new CD, “Experienced!”, his film project “Kiss the Sky” and his concert at the Larcom Theatre next Saturday.  Tickets are selling fast, so you’d better get yours soon.  Get them here.

Here’s some irony: Earlier this month, the Boston Globe announced this year’s Boston Music Wards nominees (see here) which include Gracie Curran for Blues Artist of the Year.  A few days later the Boston Herald cited Gracie Curran’s move from the Boston area to Memphis as an example of local blues artists’ response to the a loss of venues that offer them a place to preform (see here).

Vickie and I are bringing Gracie back to Beverly’s Larcom Theatre next Saturday NOV 1, for one night only with young, award-winning piano player Victor Wainwright, who got the first standing ovation at this year’s Gloucester Blues Fest.  GET TIX HERE.

Tomorrow, you can hear Gracie talk about the her career, the Blues, Memphis, Boston and much more on Aurelia Nelson’s Curtain Up radio show on North Shore 104.9FM at 9am.  Yeah, this will be worth getting up for.

This week, Jed Gottlieb wrote an interesting piece in the Herald (see here) about Boston Blues club Smoken Joe’s closing, in which he demonstrated the loss of blues support in the Boston area, using the fact that Gracie Curran moved to Memphis as an example — Boston’s loss.

Remember, Gracie Curran opened the 2013 Gloucester Blues Festival, which helps keep the blues alive in New England — our gain.

Vickie & I also help keep the blues and other music genres alive right in your own backyard.  We’re bringing Gracie back to the Larcom Theatre (down the road in Beverly) on November 1 to perform with Victor Wainwright, who’s the hottest young name in blues right now.  Victor won the Blues Music Award for Piano Player of the year in 2013 and 2014 and he got the very first standing ovation at this year’s Gloucester Blues Fest.

Since we discovered the Larcom Theatre and produced our first concert there a year ago this weekend, Gloucester’s singer/ songwriter / multi-instrumentalist and ace sound man, Will Hunt has brought in his gear and, together with Bradley Royds, they’ve mixed our shows to wide acclaim (see a review here).

But Will’s kinda busy and needs his gear for other concerts, like The Nines @ Gloucester’s UU Meetinghouse and The Toasters Concert Cruise.  So we realized it was time to get new gear appropriate for the 550 seat theatre that we don’t have to keep moving in and out.

And we figured, if we’re going do it, we might as well do it right.

On Wednesday, Jon Coretto and his crew from WHB Concert Production (the people who revamped the sound at Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom) installed the top of the line: Meyer M’elodie curvilinear array loudspeakers with 600-HP sub-woofers and Galileo system processor, Digidesign SC-48 console and 6 JBL VP 7212 MDP stage monitors.

Plus we have a 56 channel snake splitter for bands that want to make studio quality live recordings or simply MUST have their monitors mixed on stage.

Now if you don’t much care about all that techno-babble, just know this: IT SOUNDS AMAZING!

And you can hear it tomorrow night when Gracie Curran takes the stage with Roomful of Blues Horns and Lydia Warren Band opening.

Winter Blues…Spring Blues…Summer Blues

OK, folks.  Time to kiss the cold winter blues bye bye and get ready for hot spring & summer blues starting next Saturday, April 5th, with the hottest concert of the season just down the road at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre featuring Gracie Curran with Roomful of Blues horns and Lydia Warren opening.  All three of these bands have a Gloucester connection.  Gracie Curran and Lydia Warren both performed at last year’s Gloucester Blues Festival.  And Roomful of Blues performed at I4-C2 for Celebrate Gloucester in 2010.  Save the date Saturday, August 9th for the 2014 Gloucester Blues Festival!

You know the rule: If you don’t vote you can’t bitch.  And I love to bitch, so I always vote.

After you go to your local polling place today, you can go on-line and vote for your favorite local music at The Boston Music Awards.  You’ll be able to vote for plenty of artists you’ve seen in Gloucester and Cape Ann, including Kingsley Flood for their Album “Battles” and for their Video “Sigh a While”, Peter Wolf for Live Artist, Gracie Curran (who opened the Gloucester Blues Fest) for Blues Artist, Barrence Whitfield for Male Vocalist and Dennis Brennan for Best Live Ongoing Residency.

Let’s show the Boston folks that artists who come to Cape Ann to perform get the most votes!
