This Thursday night Dennis Brennan to play Dave Sag’s Blues Party @ The Rhumb Line. 8-11- 2.13.2014
We’re joining a musical health club this week and exercising our synapses with that top ‘o the heap pied piper and malarky master, Mr. Dennis Brennan. No relation to Walter. Big D has turned out to be a favorite around these parts, causing swooning women and male consternation. He comes fully equipped with a fabulous set of pipes, a harmonica, and a repertoire so vast as to inspire nosebleeds. My favorite singer!

He’ll be backed by an all-star cast featuring Mr. Matt “Dillon” Stubbs, on catarrh, and Broomful ‘o Blues drumpeter, Mr. Chris “Craft” Rivelli, a veritable powerhouse of the Blues foundry system. Both Matt and Chris have travelled the world incessantly and extensively, spreading the word with the likes of James Cottontail, or Jerry Porntoy, or Roomful or is it somebody else? I can’t remember. But you won’t forget the incessant carnal pounding of the boogie beat as you suck down that sixth beer…. It’s gonna be a blast.! See ya there!

Blizzard of ’78 36th Anniversary the Pilot Boat “Can Do”
The “Can Do”
These Photos of the “Grampus” in Beverly Harbor are from 2009 .
The Grampus is the old pilot boat “Can Do” that was lost with all hands (crew of five) in the Blizzard of ’78 .
The Damaged Hull was the only thing left of the Can Do when it was later raised from the sea.
The Workboat Grampus previously the pilot boat Can Do was raised in 1981 and after a complete re-build was returned to service. She has served on numerous projects over the years. The name Grampus (the original name of the vessel) is an old term for a pilot whale, appropriate for the sleek black hull of the vessel. Grampus is 47ft long and is powered by an 855 Cummins diesel. She was originally built as a yacht, and travelling as far south as the Amazon.
Inspite of what some have said she is not haunted or is she?
Thanks go out to MuffyHowards from Cape Ann Online for the heads up on these Youtube Videos. The Story of the Gloucester Pilot Boat Can Do. It’s a long series at least 13 parts. You’ll hear actuall Radio Transmisions from the USCG and the Pilot Boat Can do during this Tragedy.
From Publishers Weekly;
“Before The Perfect Storm, there was the 1978 blizzard that lashed the Massachusetts coast with blinding snow, 90-mile-per-hour winds and 40-foot waves. Into the juggernaut sailed the small boat Can Do and its crew of five civilians on a doomed mission to assist two other vessels imperiled by the storm. As in The Perfect Storm, all hands were lost; but since the Can Do sank only a few agonizing miles from shore, there are records of terse radio transmissions to help the author recreate their last desperate hours. Journalist Tougias (The Blizzard of ’78) fills out his absorbing account with lots of search-and-rescue procedural details, recollections from others who endured the monstrous seas of that hellish night and 300 years’ worth of maritime disaster sagas. At times, the book feels padded with lengthy, adulatory back stories about the Can Do crew and needless speculations (i.e., “Kenny Fuller likely thought of his wife, knowing that if he died it would be especially hard on her”). And the story’s outcome-the Can Do never got anywhere near the boats it went to help, both of which survived the storm-raises questions about the wisdom of the heroic ethos it celebrates. Still, Tougias delivers a well-researched, vividly written tale of brave men overwhelmed by the awesome forces of nature.”

Tonight’s SingerSongwriterShuffle, 7-10pm with John Jerome, John Abbott, Patrick Nelson, Scotty Anderson, TMax, Steve Caraway and Sarah Hoonah Smith. 2.6.2014
Dave Sag’s Blues Party tonight with Justin Quinn joining him @ The Rhumb Line 8-11~ 2.6.2014

It’s a double whammy for me this week as I get to do the do with Mr. Justin Quinn twice! That’s right, he’s my special guest this Thursday nite at the Rhumby and I get to do it again on Sunday at Glenn’s in Nbpt. Mr. Q. or “Sonny Boy III” as I refer to him is the logical extension of both Mississippi saxophonists I and II schmeared with a heavy dollop of Li’l Walter thrown in with some Jameson’s Irate Whiskey for good measure. He sings, too, whilst allowing his sidemen to vent, like Vesuvius, to the boogie beat. Beware of microbursts!

Sidemen include Mr. Jon Ross, Klonopin® King and razor-like Samurai, on catarrh and vocals, the calvous Mr. Paul Foss of Bangor, Me. , an old prison cellmate, on keyboards, Mr. Ephraim Lowell, late of Broomful of Blooze, on tintinabulators and me on base . You’ll wonder where the yellow went, when you brush your fate with Blooze-o-dent. Hours: 8 to 11.
Sunday at Glenn’s you can behave, since we start at 6pm (and go till 9), but I don’t recommend it as there will be great wailing and gnashing of teeth, or implants and veneers, since this is Nbpt. The food is great but the women are snobby, so stay home, guys, unless you have a portfolio! When you clock this town with the stopwatch of history, it’s a different record every time.
Also, for those of you who are out of the job market, The good Old Salty Jazz Band holds sway next Monday at the Rose Baker (who is she?) Senior Center here in downtown Glou. from 1 to 3, next Monday, nap time for most of you. You could bring Jell-O or Wayfarin© Come dance to the urgent hits of the 1920’s to the 1940’s with the coolest musicians in the world. We’re concussion free and a few of us still have hair!! BaDoom!

Even Seals Have Frustrating Days
Saturday February 1st 2014 Cape Ann Forecast..
MARINE FORECAST…
Sat: W winds 5 to 10 kt…becoming S in the afternoon. Seas 2 to 3 ft.
Sat Night: S winds 10 to 15 kt with gusts up to 20 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft. A chance of rain.
Today we’re looking at mostly cloudy conditions with temps in low 40’s. Winds rather light from the west at 5-10mph switching to the south late In the day . Saturday night chance of showers with mostly cloudy skies lows around 40 ..
Ok so I wanted to do something different and explain different aspects of the weather . So with that being said let’s start out with “The High Pressure”
Ok so what’s a “High Pressure”
A high-pressure area, high or anticyclone is a region where the atmospheric pressure at the surface of the planet is greater than its surrounding environment.
Winds within high-pressure areas flow outward from the higher pressure areas near their centers towards the lower pressure areas further from their centers. Gravity adds to the forces causing this general movement, because the higher pressure compresses the column of air near the center of the area into greater density – and so greater weight compared to lower pressure, lower density, and lower weight of the air outside the center.
However, because the planet is rotating underneath the atmosphere, and frictional forces arise as the planetary surface drags some atmosphere with it, the air flow from center to periphery is not direct, but is twisted due to the Coriolis effect, or the merely apparent force that arise when the observer is in a rotating frame of reference. Viewed from above this twist in wind direction is in the same direction as the rotation of the planet.
The strongest high-pressure areas are associated with cold air masses which push away out of polar regions during the winter when there is less sun to warm neighboring regions. These Highs change character and weaken once they move further over relatively warmer water bodies.
Somewhat weaker but more common are high pressure areas caused by atmospheric subsidence, that is, areas where large masses of cooler drier air descends from an elevation of 8 to 15 km after the lower temperatures have precipitated out the lighter water vapor. (H2O is about half of the molecular weight of the other two main constituents of the atmosphere—Oxygen, O2, and Nitrogen, N2.)
High pressures can be both our friends or enemies .. Case in point if u have a High Pressure like this one picture below …

Then HOUSTON we have a problem .. This is called a “Blocking High” most common in winter months . When u have a very strong high pressure over Greenland , it tends to put on the brakes and cause a traffic jam of Weather across our country .. Most times results in stalling or retro grading monsters off the east coast resulting in lots of snow .. So if u here of A Greenland Block has set up just be ready for long duration storms..
Now our friend “High Pressure” seen below …

Is our warm mild position off the East Coast .. Bermuda Highs always bring in mild / warm / and tropical weather in the Summer months … Bermuda highs are often our good friends as far as weather goes .. How ever don’t be fooled During August ESP when Bermuda Highs can steer Tropical systems up our way ! IE. Tropical Storms / Hurricanes… So there’s Blocking Highs / Fair Weather Highs / And Bermuda Highs … Hope u enjoyed … Have a Wonderful Saturday !!!

After Watching The Meet The Coywolf Videos I Got Myself This…
Simple keychain whistle. Seeing as if you’re living on the North Shore you’ll be living with Coywolf, I figured why not? Cheap.
The experts on the PBS “Meet The Coywolf” program suggested that if you encounter Coywolf in your yard, you ought to haze them and make them feel uncomfortable.
You can get them on Amazon for like next to nothing.
Who Was This Man?
You young ones out there probably won’t, but any of you 50 somethings and beyond will certainly remember him. In addition to being a tv personality that most kids in this region watched in the 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s, he was also an avid scuba diver and skier, how my parents became friends with him. My siblings and I watched him every weekend.
Howdy there, folks, we’re glad to meet you in Boom- Boom- Boomtown!

This poor coyote must have gotten hit by a vehicle within the past few hours as the blood was still vibrant red.
RIP Mr Coyote. Hope your life on the island was a good one.
