We’ve come a Long Way Baby
Today you can pick up a Nikon Coolpix underwater camera for a few hundred bucks and grab yourself some underwater shots pretty easily. Not so in the old days. These photos go back to the early 50’s when my dad became fascinated with scuba diving (after seeing the film “The Frogmen, “1951) and underwater photography. He developed one of the first underwater camera cases, which resulted in his being invited by Jacques Cousteau aboard the Calypso so that Mr. Cousteau could see it. The model is my mom, Jean Lefavour.

Super Bowl Appetizer… Sista’s Twist on Buffalo Chicken
Are you looking for a new recipe for Super Bowl Sunday?
The men in the family can never seem to get enough buffalo flavoring on game days. Buffalo flavored chicken wings, drumsticks, tenders, dip, pretzels and potato chips served mild to hot are always a crowd pleaser. Although our beloved Patriots will not be a part of this years Super Bowl game, the viewing parties will go on as planned. This Sunday I’m changing up our usual football appetizer menu with a recipe twist on the widely popular combination of Buffalo chicken and Blue Cheese flavors everyone in the family seems to adore. My daughter Amanda and I developed this recipe last month after a shopping trip to The Cave Cheese shop on Main Street to find some new cheeses to get creative with in the kitchen. Laura, owner and cheese expert offered us a sample of a St Agur Blue cheese. The bright blue veining running through it’s creamy white cheese looked amazing and tasted incredible delicious. That same day Amanda and I concocted 3 recipes using cheeses we sampled with Laura at The Cave. This recipe is one of them and it now holds a spot on my son BJ’s top 5 game day appetizer food list. Obscure bit of interesting stuff
Hussein bin Talal, Ḥusayn bin Ṭalāl; 14 November 1935 – 7 February 1999) was King of Jordan from the abdication of his father, King Talal, in 1952, until his death. Hussein’s rule extended through the Cold War and four decades of Arab-Israeli conflict. He recognized Israel in 1994, becoming the second Arab head of state to do so (after Anwar Sadat in 1978/1979).
“He won the respect and admiration of the entire world and so did his beloved Jordan. He is a man who believed that we are all God’s children, bound to live together in mutual respect and tolerance.” (US President, Bill Clinton)
“He was an extraordinary and immensely charismatic persuader for peace. At the peace talks in America when he was extremely ill, he was there, talking to both sides, urging them forward, telling them nothing must stand in the way of peace.” (UK Prime Minister, Tony Blair)
“President Yasser Arafat and the Palestinian people and leadership have received with great sorrow and pain the news,” it said in a statement. The Palestinian Authority
South African President Nelson Mandela believed the death would be “deeply mourned by all peace-loving people.”
UN Secretary General Kofi Annan paid tribute to the late king, praising him for his “lifelong struggle to bring peace”. (excerpts from Wikipedia)
In addition to being a great leader and persuader for peace, did you know that King Hussein was also a scuba diver? This is a letter I found going through old papers and photos at my mother’s house this weekend, from King Hussein’s office, placing an order with my father, Willis Lefavour’s scuba diving business (Seacraft Industries) for an assortment of diving related items for His Majesty. This has nothing at all to do with Cape Ann, but I thought it was cool and worth sharing.

This week Johnny Carwash joins The Dave Sag’s Thursday Night Blues Party! 8 – 11pm 1.30.2014
Dave says,
First, let me thank you all for allowing me to present the good Old Salty Jazz Band last week.It was a huge success. People were weeping in the aisles. Took me two days to recover. I think i’ll do it again this summer.
Now, back to reality. This week is yet another shootout at the ofay corral as we feature two ghastly titans of instrumental guitar, Mr. Bobby Davis, old Johnny Carwash himself,
and Mr. Billy Loosigian. Last time Bobby was here, the cleanup crew were wailing and gnashing their dentures for a week. Tore the place apart. Billy has been practicing his three chords necessary for the attainment of bliss for some time now and will prove to be the perfect shiny mirror to Bob’s succinct style. Jeff Casper, the friendly drumbler, will be on hand to answer any questions. I won’t have any answers. This is going to be big fun.
Don’t forget winter hours: 8 to 11. You can get 10 to life if you’re not careful.

Well folks Spring is only 50 days away! I’m sure you’re ready for it , I know I am .. So far it’s been a pretty darn cold winter , averaging temps below normal and snowfall above normal ..
What can we expect going into February ? Well for starters February is normally our snowiest month of the season . We tend to get big storms that generate out of the “Gulf Of Mexico” these storms come fully fused with plenty of moisture .. They usually redevelop off the Outer Banks of NC. Over the Gulf Stream , which in part creates our Nor’Easters! Still waiting for Pacific Western Ridge to break down , signals it is starting to occur , this gives hope for Snow Lovers for February .. Also will be eyeing the Greenland Block set up in the North Atlantic , this will tend to keep storms from passing out to Sea, and also bring us potentially Stronger Storms . Hint Feb 25th “2010” monster ! So if u like snow I see plenty of chances going into February and into early March! If u don’t like the Snow , just remember Spring is only 50 days Away!! Have a great Wednesday Everyone.. And thank u for reading …

Hey Joey!
Hope you are well. Thanks as always, for all you do.
Wanted to let you in on a little good news… Coastal Dog Apparel is celebrating it’s first anniversary on February 4th! Woot Woot! “They” told us it wouldn’t happen – that we could not make a swimsuit 100% (from drawstring to care content tag!) in the good ole USA.
Well, we did it – and not only did we do it but we are still here one year later, in part to folks like you and and the Gloucester community who support our small business.
In celebration, and response to customers requests – Steph decided to go all tropical and now we have new colors and patterns and wanted to share them with your readers in case anyone is headed to the Caribbean for a winter getaway!
What do you think? Snazzy, right? We call it the Malibu collection but you can wear them on any beach! Thanks again for your good words about the suit after the polar plunge. You guys were great and the photos are awesome! Nothing accessorizes a Coastal Dog suit better than a large yellow rubber duck.

The Ciaramitaro Women Get Together!
Whenever there is a pregnancy announcement in the family the Ciaramitaro women break out their knitting and Crochet needles and head straight for the yarn shop to get supplies needed to make the new baby’s “Ruota”… ( handmade sweaters, hats, booties, carriage coverlets, and blankets.) Just before the holidays my cousin Amy & her husband Bill broke the big news that they were expecting their first child this spring. Last night 3 generations of the Ciaramitaro family gathered at my mothers house for what we call “Club Night”. Originally this traditional crafting gathering took place during morning or afternoon coffee times, and over the years, transpired into an evening event with a light dinner and wine, to accommodate the working womens schedules in the family. Last night was the first of many fun nights we will all spend together over the next few months preparing for the family’s new princess!
After a quick dinner…the projects begin…to see more… Continue reading “The Ciaramitaro Women Get Together!”
