Another Local Lobster Trap Tag Shows Up On Perranporth Beach Cornwall England!

Dear Joe,

I wrote to you in November 2012 about a fishing tag from the Net Profit, from when it was owned by the late Joe Ciaramitaro.

Last Thursday I found a tag from F/V Endeavour. When I looked it up on Google it looks as though it comes from your area, so I thought that you might be interested. I don’t find many of the rectangular tags, all the ones that I have found are mounted on a board on my garage wall. I thought that you might know some of their owners or where they come from.

As you will see from the photo we do find quite a lot of lobster trap tags. Here in Perranporth  Cornwall most of the them are from Newfoundland and Labrador. We have had a lot of storms this winter & unusually high tides for the last three months. This has resulted in large quantities of plastic being washed up – some from across the Atlantic & a lot from more local places.

Best Wishes,

Chris Easton

Local Artist Naomi Lee displays her work at Addison Gilbert Hospital Gallery from March 10th to 28th, 2014

DSC02611

Retired art teacher Naomi Lee has rediscovered her love for the arts over the past few years through painting. Naomi was an art teacher for over 20 years, specializing in pottery. She took an unconventional approach to teaching by really giving her students the freedom to create their own individual pieces.

Naomi resides in Gloucester, MA. She finds her inspiration in the beauty that nature creates and the local nautical surroundings. She believes in the calm of the moon, the warmth of the sun, the strength of the wind and the power of the sea. Her work mostly consists of seascape paintings.

Naomi is a member of The Beverly Guild of Artists, The Salem Art Association, The Magnolia Art Association, and takes part in The Marblehead Festival of Arts. She also offers greeting cards and some prints of her paintings for sale. Naomi can be contacted at 781-710-1080.

Ricky King Russell, Mario Perrett and Ed Sheer to join The Dave Sag’s Blues Party @ The Rhumb Line tonight 8-11

dave s

Dave says,

I’m psyched this week cuz my favorite gaggle of comedic cats are showing up for another roast. It’s been a long time so let’s welcome back Mr. Ricky “King” Russell. Ricky had a terrible accident a while ago at CERN when a stray Higgs boson collided with one of his guitar licks, splitting several atoms and his pants. His tailor has pronounced him fit to play.

Next, there’s “Mr.Ed” Scheer, equine vocalist and world’s foremost Diaperene® expert, on drums. Ed is always laughing at anything I say, even when it’s not funny. Go figure.
Then, girls, there’s “Super Mario” Perrett, former rockstar and Hai Karate© spokesmodel, on tenor sax. Gawd, he is so handsome! See for yourself.
And finally, there’s me, but you know that. But seriously, folks, I love these guys; they all play and sing so well, and laugh so loud. I nearly choked to death on my fifth drink last time. You will, too. Come early and stay late! We hit at 8 P.M.

Live Destruction!! Finally!!!!

You’ve cussed, cursed, and scorned at it. You’ve prayed, pleaded, and preached about it. So cue the Etta James classic “At Last” because the suck-sore that was at the corner of Mansfield St. and Washington has fallen!
That’s right folks, the burnt siding, the blue tarp, and the embarrassment that greets all locals and tourists alike has come to an end. That only took 3 years.

Now please clean up that pile of rubble before next spring!

You put what on my burger??? Stones Pub Perfection

I was a bit skeptical about this one folks. I love me a proper burger, and nobody fire grills one in this town better than Stones Pub….but Dayum! May I introduce to you, The Peanut Butter Bacon Burger from heaven!!

At first glance, it appears to be a fine example of a perfect bacon-cheese burger. No silly stack of off-season tomatoes and tired lettuce here, just bun, bacon, cheese, and burger..Right?

But with closer observation, a powerful and mysterious ingredient melts it’s way around the pile of swine. What is that oozing down that perfectly grilled mound of meat? Is it mayo? Mustard? Special Sauce? That red stuff southerners put on dogs?? Nope, it’s peanut butter! And if you love your momma, and this country, you better get your ass down to Stones and show that you have a pair!

Once you start, it’s on! Your mouth, and your soul, cannot believe what’s happening at this moment!! You are now part of a love affair you swore you would never be a part of, ever. Soon you will realize it’s True Love.
Now, if you can’t find it on the menu, or specials menu, just ask! Stones Pub and Eatery, dear Geezuz, it’s a life changer! If you dare to dabble, please let me know what you think of your first peanut butter bacon burger experience!

Neil Young, Massachusetts’ most “distinctive” artist, just might revolutionize digital music today at SXSW

A recent blog by Paul Lamere of Echo Nest (in Somerville, MA) claims to have analyzed listener data from music streaming services to determine the most “distinctive” artists by state.  His method is very interesting, if a tad wonkish (see his explanation here). Essentially the most “distinctive” artist for Massachusetts is the artist that is very popular in MA, but NOT very popular in other states — and, based on Paul Lamere’s study, that artist is Neil Young, who is scheduled to unveil his new, studio-quality music service and device called Pono, at 5pm today at South by Southwest (more here).

Artists LOVE this new sound.  Check out what they have to say in Neil Young’s Kickstarter campaign for Pono, here.  Even if Pono is a flop, the mere fact that people who make music are finally talking about good quality sound in the digital age is a major breakthrough.  Who knows where this revolution will lead, but you can say you were there (even if only via the Internet) when Neil Young Started it.

I guess we should all be proud to live in Massachusetts!  Perhaps the boys can play a little Neil Young tonight at Jalapenos in his honor!

Mystery Rocky

As I left Sista Felicia’s house yesterday to go on a supplies run, I saw this jogger getting at it down the back shore. I scrambled for my phone to snag a quick shot. I was then inspired by this man. He wasn’t big, he wasn’t fast, he wasn’t young, but he sure as hell was getting it done. Who are you Bass Rocky? Does anybody know the mystery man?

VIDEO: Laissez les bons temps rouler (Let the good times roll) it’s Mardi Gras!

Well, here in frosty New England, it used to be just another Tuesday in the dead of winter.  But once Henri Smith moved to Gloucester (after Katrina blew is house down — see short bio here) we started celebrating Mardi Gras and now you have plenty of opportunities to celebrate on Cape Ann.  Here are a few:

Eat and drink at Lat43 and Minglewood from 11:30 – close today and 10% of what you spend goes to help send YMCA Teens on their service learning trips to New Orleans and the Navajo Nation.  Plus you can enter a raffle to win cool prizes (including 4 tickets to see Grammy-winner Charles Neville of the Neville Brothers with Henri Smith on Friday at The Larcom Theatre just down the road in Beverly).

Great music tonight all over town and music is the best way to celebrate.  See the complete live music schedule here.

Any time you like you can see Henri Smith and Charles Neville’s 2012 Mardi Gras concert at Minglewood Tavern on Cape Ann TV’s wicked cool streaming site here.

If you’re NOLA homesick, check out the live webcams here.

Maybe — just maybe — if we celebrate Mardi Gras today, we’ll heat up Cape Ann and usher in Spring a tad earlier.  Laissez les bons temps rouler!
