Here are the Sunlight and Starlight Herring Seiner Seine Boats respectively loaded up on the sterns. The Sunlight’s Seine boat is named “Brother Luv“. Kinda strange name for a seine boat.

Sam heads out. By himself. To haul his traps and make a days pay. No one barking at him. No one telling him where to go or what to do. Just him and his boat. Hauling traps, Baiting Traps, Setting Traps. Independent.

We’re gonna play matchmaker. Surely there is some wonderful woman out there looking for a hard working lobsterman, no?

The herring have been scarce so the big boats have been going all the way to George’s Bank to try to find them with no luck in the past two weeks. That means they have been burning a ton of fuel as the herring boats are gigantic vessels.
We’ve been filling in by using pogies for lobster bait which are not nearly as much fun to handle. They break down much faster and they produce this incredibly slick oil which gets all over the floor and everywhere making it a PITA to use. Beggars can’t be choosers though so whatever it takes to get our lobstermen out fishing is what we will try to provide.

With the price of just about everything a lobsterman needs to go lobstering going through the roof including fuel, traps and bait, many lobstermen have turned away from costly herring and have been trying alternative bait such as fish racks. We don’t provide fish racks for our lobstermen. They will go and source them at local fish cutting operations such as Pigeon Cove Whole Foods on Parker Street.

From Barry Pett-
Joe,
Just thinking, our Fisherman’s Memorial Service is this Saturday, procession from the Legion at 5pm, followed by the service at the statue from about 5:15 til 6pm. Everyone is welcome, and those who come to the service could just stroll up to Main Street for the Block Party. Maybe you could post a notice here?
And FYI, Josie (Orlando) Russo and Grace (Orlando) Burbridge will be our speakers this year, it will be an extremely emotional and timely service.
Thanks again for the GMG blog …….. and the Block Parties ……….woohoo
!!
Slap on a little wasabi and give me a bottle of soy and we’re good to go!

Notie that Peter has a float attached to his lobster gauge? I wonder how many get lost overboard without the float.
