Chickity Check It- Hye Tyde

Hye Tyde is the blog from  John Hintlian which mostly chronicles his surfing journal but if you look below the surface of all the surfing pictures and surf pictures, his photography is spectacular and he bring a fresh new perspective to your standard photo/journal blog.

John is very creative with his photography and I enjoy perusing his flickr album as much if not more than Hye Tyde.  Check out his flickr album and see for yourself.

Chickity Check It- Commercial-Fishing.org

Craig and Jane are the couple who run Commercial-Fishing.org.   They stopped down the dock the other day while in town which is always nice.  I love it when people that dig GMG stop by to say hi.  They were in town for a couple days and then were heading to New Bedford.

It doesn’t look like the weather in New Bedford is going to be very kid to them  for the Seafood Festival they are having down there, but I hope they had a good time nonetheless.  If you have any interest in commercial fishing you owe it to yourself to check out Craig’s site and get involved.  There are forums and a whole slew of things you can check out there.

I’ve added a link to Commercial-Fishing.org in the links section to the right for your future reference.

Things To Do- The Lone Gull 10K

The second annual Lone Gull 10K is September 21,2008.  I’m not a runner but from what I understand because the have such a huge sponsor in Nike, you pay $18 if you register before September 15th or $24 if you register September 15th and later for your entry fee, it entitles you to a $40 Lone Gull 10K technical jersey if you are within the first 350 people to register, and breakfast.  That’s a pretty good take my friends!

There is a sign up sheet for race day volunteers at The Lone Gull Coffeehouse in the heart of Downtown Gloucester if you would like to participate in that way.

The course starts and ends at Good Harbor Beach.

Here’s more info from the source-

The Schooner Virginia Current Position Map

The Schooner Virginia, winner of this weekend’s race is on it’s way to Halifax, Nova Scotia.

On it’s official website they have a tracking device which shows its previous stops and it’s current position.

Click this text to check out the live map

Once you click it because the ship is off the coast it will appear to be in a sea of blue, because it is, but if you scroll out a little you can see it’s position on the map in relation to the US and Canada.

Pretty cool stuff.

Gloucester Gig Rowing
Gloucester Gig Rowing

I was stumbling around the internet as I normally do with my down time here at the dock and came accross this blog with many pictures of Gloucester Gig Rowers.

It seems the blog is in it’s infancy and if they keep at it a while, I’ll probably add it to the blogroll, but there are some interesting pictures to share about just what gig rowing is all about.

Check it out and get involved. I bet you can find out more information at The Gloucester Maritime Heritage Center where the Gigs are docked.
