What an amazing sail on Friday afternoon on The Adventure. It was incredible and amazing. The phots only tell a small story of the beauty of the schooners. Can not wait to for the rest of the weekend. Thank you to the crew, volunteers and Captain Christa Miller for a great sail.

It is all about the light. On Sunday Rick and I walked around Maritime Gloucester. It is so wonderful to see all the boats, visitors, Coast Guard and the glowing light.
In the midst of photographing all of the beautiful schooners, I was happy to take a second to appreciate the gorgeous back drop to it all…that is, our Gloucester.

Maritime Gloucester Heritage Day
Maritime Gloucester, located at 23 Harbor Loop in downtown Gloucester, will host its annual Heritage Day celebration from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. The event is free to the public.

Heritage Day at the White-Ellery House
The 1710 White-Ellery House (245 Washington Street, Gloucester) will have a slide show of schooners and have other fishing & racing related activities. The event is free to the public.
4:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Lobster Bake at The Gloucester House
Music, food and a whole lot of fun. The cost is only $17
for Lobster, Corn and Cornbread.

Concert on Stacy Boulevard
Enjoy a community concert on The Boulevard before and after the Parade of Lights and Fireworks.

Boat Parade of Lights
The annual Boat Parade of Lights begins at dusk at Jones Creek on the Annisquam River, travels down the river, through the drawbridge and into Gloucester Harbor, ending in the Smith’s Cove area of the harbor.

This meeting is required for all Schooners sailing in the Mayor’s Race. Meet at Solomon Jacobs Park, immediately adjacent to the U.S. Coast Guard Station on Harbor Loop.

Parade of Sail as Schooners proceed from Inner Harbor, past the Fishermen’s Memorial on Stacy Boulevard, to the race starting area off Eastern Point.
11:00 am to 1:30 pm
Shuttle Bus to Eastern Point Light, from Eastern Point Gate (Eastern Point Boulevard at Farrington Avenue) to watch the start of the Mayor’s Race. Free ofCharge, courtesy of Cape Ann Transportation Authority.

The Roseway going by Old Salem Path, The Lannon and Ardelle in Gloucester Harbor on Tuesday afternoon.
The Columbia and the Roseway are already in. Went to the Maritime Gloucester Pier and could see The Columbia, Ardelle and The Schooner Adventure. When driving through Stage Fort Park, saw the Roseway coming into port.

Yesterday on our front porch my husband found a wonderful surprise package, not long a mystery from where it came with a lovely inscription from the author himself, Ron Gilson. An Island No More ~ The Gloucester I Knew is a deeply personal and fascinating account of Gloucester’s working waterfront and its people, with hundreds of black and white photographs. I was immediately transported to Gloucester during the Great Depression and haven’t been able to put down the book. An Island No More is available from Amazon or by contacting the author at P.O. Joey…. Here’s a shot from GREEN DRAGON a couple years ago when BLUENOSE II was still around. Maggie here is savoring the odor of the haddock chowder wafting over from the Canadians’ galley and hoping for a chance to clean their bowls when they come ashore. What happened was that she missed out on the chowder but did manage to grab the skipper’s hot dog when he was on the dock. Hence the invasion of the BLUENOSE ll’s crew. Fortunately we had a good supply of Fishermen’s Brew iced down and were able to calm them.
Maggie was also in attendance at ARDELLE’S launching, and here can be seen interviewing Cooper. You can see Maggie’s blog here… it’s a long thread but scrolling down through it will acquaint you with some of her pals like Effie on Effie.
