Miss Massachusetts Again & Again!

You’ve seen palm trees, convertibles & movie starlets on Hollywood Boulevard, but have you ever seen a giant red lobster on a dress made from recycled sails? It isn’t Lady Gaga, but a collaboration between Frieda Grotjahn of Again & Again Recycled Sailbags and mother/daughter pair, Charlotte & Daphne Papp, of Annisquam. This November, Charlotte will travel to Anaheim, CA to represent Massachusetts in the National American Miss Pageant, where one of her outfits will have a style that is distinctly Gloucester.

For the casual wear portion of the competition, Charlotte will wear a one of a kind dress made from two recycled sails: a white spinnaker & a red spinnaker. Her mother, Daphne, approached Frieda about the project, as the self-proclaimed “pageant mother” thought it would be a clever re-use of a material frequently identified with Massachusetts. And the lobster? Not only is it a Massachusetts icon, it’s also a bold red graphic that complements the bright scarlett hat and shoes that Charlotte will wear, on Hollywood Boulevard.

Charlotte, 20, is currently a sophomore at the College of Wooster in Ohio, where she is studying to become a Broadcast Journalist. She also plays Division 1 Lacrosse.

Dominic Nesta’s Marine Service Rig From Bill O’Connor

Hi Joey,

I ran into John Nesta and his son Dominic Tuesday afternoon at Sibley’s Boat Yard working on Dominic’s boat.  Dom got the boat from Mark Lacey this Summer and has been gearing it up to do various marine service duties.  She’s up on the rails while they install a pilot house with the help of Larry Dahlmer – artist and boatsmith. I think the pilot house will give the boat the look of an old wooden trawler on a miniature scale.  It’s going to be pretty cool when they’re done…

Keep an eye out, Dom just needs to glass the luan and 2x frame, and he’ll have the boat back in the water within the week!

Enjoy,
~Bill O’Connor

at the State Fish Pier. 09/12/2011

I met Rick a Big fan of GMG At The State Fish Pier. He enjoys checking it out everyday to see what’s going on here on our Island Paradise. He thought the Sunday Mug Ups were by invitation only. I told him and any Fan like him can come down Sunday Mornings at 10am and get some Coffee and some great food. No obligation to buy anything at all. Rick seems like a great guy and I look forward to talking to him again.

Here’s a photo of Rick Representin’ and The Eurodam video I took today. Rick also is my color commentary on the last part of this video when you see the shuttle boat arriving at the CruisePort.
