For years, Danish culture has excelled at creating comfort at home through the long and dark winter months. In 2016 Denmark was rated as the happiest country in the world. When you consider how long their winters really are, this becomes an even more remarkable feat. How did they do it? With hygge. There is no direct translation of hygge in English, but itโs been defined as a quality of coziness and comfort to help cultivate oneโs well-being. ย As we hunker down for winter with Covid, it might be time to take some lessons from the Danes.ย
It’s been perfect for comfort food these last few days which we found served to perfection at the Village Restaurant in Essex recently. The apple cider sangria was very refreshing and I loved the French Onion soup. Jim had the fish stew and broiled seafood combo. I had the chicken parm. It was perfect for the damp chilly fall evening. Thank you Village!

Upcoming Savour-Saturday Guest Host Wine Tastings in November!
Over the past few weeks, I have been watching the progress Cheryl’s Signs has been making giving the World War II Memorial sign on the Boulevard a makeover. I asked if this was in preparation for Veterans Day, but she said it was part of a planned “refresh” for the signage. Progress was weather dependent so it took a few trips for her to complete the work. Nicely done! Thank you.
