My Super Talented Friend

Anyone who follows GMG knows how much we love our friends at Cape Ann Giclee, James and Anna Eves. Not only do they do amazing work, but they are incredibly kind and generous.

So, how happy was I to see that one of my favorite peeps in the world now has reproductions of her gorgeous paintings available at Cape Ann Giclee. One of the coolest things about Paula Morgan?  Well, she’s actually Mrs. Morgan.  As in West Parrish’s very own art teacher.  How great for your child to own a piece of their teacher’s amazing artwork.  However, even if you don’t have a child in one of Paula’s classes, you’d be lucky to have one of these pieces in your home.

Check out Paula Morgan’s work here!  Hopefully more coming soon!

Here is a screen shot of the two paintings that are available now.  Obviously check out other work while visiting the site…including GMG’s, Joey Ciaramitaro. Be sure to visit the link above to see these close up…as this photo absolutely does not do them justice.  So much vibrant color and detail!

You Know That Right Here In Magnolia Is Home To One Of The Most Innovative Companies In The Web Browser Game? Check Out What Vivaldi Can Do With The Internet of Things!

Back In June we interviewed Vivaldi founder Jon von Tetxchner On The GloucesterCast. Jon set up headquarters for his explosive, revolutionary company at the innovation House in Magnolia, just off of Lexington Ave.

Check Out His Interview Here-

Gloucestercast 188 With @KimSmithDesigns, Jon von Tetzchner, Deb and Frank Sacco, Catherine Ryan, Karen Pischke and @Joey_C

Now this-

Vivaldi introduces the world’s first web browser that controls lights. It also includes various enhancements such as drag tabs and tab stacks between windows, reader mode button, delta updates and improved note taking abilities.

Just announced-

Vivaldi releases its latest version 1.5 today accelerating its pace to create a user-centric web browser. Vivaldi gives you a unique ability – a first for browsers – to control the color of smart-home lighting through browsing. Additionally, this release offers a lot of improvements over previous versions, including being able to drag tabs, tab stacks and tab selections between windows. Significant highlights also include delta updates, reader mode button and automatic screen shots in notes. Download Vivaldi 1.5 today from vivaldi.com.

Vivaldi’s Light Bulb Moment

Vivaldi treads an adventurous route, going beyond the browser and into the smart home by integrating with Hue color lights from Philips. After enabling Hue in Vivaldi Theme Settings, a tap on the Philips Hue Bridge confirms the connection. Selecting which lights Vivaldi should control, the browser will synchronize your physical surroundings with the color of the web.

Vivaldi 1.5 - Hue Settings

With this light bulb moment, Vivaldi opens the door for new opportunities for seamless integration between the browser and physical space.

“This is just a first step for us but imagine a world where you get notified for a new email or web notification through a light bulb,” explains CEO Jon von Tetzchner. “Vivaldi is all about customisation and flexibility. Integrating with IoT devices like Philips Hue makes it possible for Vivaldi to adapt to you and your everyday life.”

Can you guys leave comments as to conventional wisdom in regard to owning vs leasing an electric water heater?

The house we just bought has an electric water heater which is closer to the end of its life cycle but was leased for $17 per month by the previous owners. If anything goes wrong the leasing company comes out and fixes it.

Does it make sense to keep the current operational water heater and pay the lease, or to buy a new one, or is there a different way to go?

The early sunsets

Most of us wish the sun would not go down so early, but the sunsets and colors in the sky and ocean are amazing.

Lighting of Nubble Lighthouse

Aside from our beautiful lighthouses here at home, Nubble Lighthouse in York, Maine is one of the most scenic and most visited lighthouses in New England.   It’s another one of my favorites to photograph and this Saturday November 26th they will be lighting it for Christmas as they do each year.    It will stay lit through Christmas.   Check them out on facebook!

Home Team?

I’m not sure who is “home” and who is “away”, but one thing is for certain…there are too many geese on the field.

Gloucester High School will be competing in the annual Kiss 108 Matty in the Morning Turkey Toss live on the radio at 7am wednesday

On Wednesday November 23rd Gloucester High School will be competing in the annual Kiss 108 Matty in the Morning Turkey Toss live on the radio at 7am. This is the second time GHS has competed in the event (last time was in 2012). The 2016 event will be held at DCR’s Baxter Park Amphitheater at Assembly Row in Somerville Massachusetts.

GHS football players Nate Young and Christian Sanfilippo will be the two representing the city as they compete against nine other teams on the air. Other teams include defending champions Arlington High School and Thanksgiving rivals the Danvers Falcons.

The competition is simple. Each of the ten teams have one chance for a player to throw a frozen turkey to the other player. The team that hurls and successfully catches the bird at the greatest distance is the champion. The event is live on the air with Matty, Billy, and Lisa doing commentary.

Please tune in to 107.9 on Wednesday morning at 7am to listen to the boys attempt to bring the trophy to Gloucester….. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

The Habanero On The Arts and The Garlic On The Ribeye.

Going to reverse search the ribeye while the ABTs are on.  I’ll report back my findings.

My Kate gave them both her seal of approval.  In fact she liked it so much she was raving to her dad “The Bipster” about them.

They are both ridiculously good on corn on the cob.

Rose Sheehan, a life-long native of Massachusetts, grew up enjoying music of all genres, singing in church and school choirs. In the late 1970’s, she became enthralled with traditional music. Soon after settling in Boston, she starting performing throughout the Northeast region at coffeehouses and small taverns including the Nameless Coffeehouse, Cambridge, the Pressroom, NH, the Thirsty Whale, ME and Fiddler’s Green, Toronto. She studied vocal technique with Anabel Graetz and Frankie Armstrong and performed as a solo vocalist with the Revels in the early 1980’s.

Colin de la Barre was raised in a musical household. He demonstrated his talent for music and rhythm as a very young child, dancing before he could speak. He played fiddle during his middle childhood years, easily picking up tunes by ear. When asked, Colin says he began singing with his mom in his late teens. Rose asserts that they’ve been “singing together since before he was born!”

As a duo, Rose and Colin are well known for their inspired harmonies and rich blend of familial voices.

They have appeared together at venues including the Mystic Sea Music Festival, the Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival, the Indian Neck Folk Festival, the New England Folk Festival, coffeehouses and house concerts.

In 2014 they were selected as juried showcase performers for the North East Regional Folk Alliance Conference in Kerhonkson, NY.

Lantern Walk and Workshops

November 17, 2016 ~ Rose ~

The  mid-point between the equinox and the solstice is the cross quarter day, traditionally observed as a fire festival. A lantern walk marks the end of autumn and the start of winter. We carry light into the darkening days with hope for the renewed light to come.
