Liar, Liar Pants on Fire (Also Known as Merry Christmas)

A good friend asked me to repost this….. as it is timely.  I was more than happy to do so…especially since, with all the shopping, wrapping, and deceiving, I haven’t had time to come up with anything else for this morning’s post.

I almost forgot to do it at all….but then I went to the front yard and side deck to shred some carrots to look as though those messy reindeer ate the ones we left out with Santa’s cookies….and I remembered “the lies.”   Next, I’ll go eat 1/2 of one of Santa’s cookies and put the rest back into the ziplock bag that they were in earlier this evening.

My boys are now 8 1/2 and 6 1/2 and both still totally BELIEVE.   I must admit, however, that I’ve become more sloppy.  Just a few minutes ago I shoved things in their stockings with price tags still on them because I am W.I.P.E.D.  Not sure if the boys will notice or not….and not sure how I’ll explain that stuff in their stocking came from Dick’s Sporting Goods.  Bygones.

So, my friends, I wish you a Very Merry Christmas….and some good luck 😉

  1. Wait…what?! I’m 49, and I still believe. if it’s deception, it’s the kindest of nature. I remember when the eldest of my two daughters came home from school definitely tweaked about something in third grade. She waited for her little sister to go to bed and she confronted my wife and I about what some shithead kid told everyone on the playground that day. The gig was up.

In a very emotional and heart-wrenching moment with her we examined ourselves, and the perpetuation of the myth, or lie, and put it back on her, and us. We put the responsibility in her hands to make sure her sister didn’t have to suffer from her own newly gleaned awareness. It gave her a leg up in maturity and compassion, and she bore her burden to preserve that tradition for here sister. In fact, she created a protectorate. It was awesome.

They are now almost 20 and 16. I watched them give and get yesterday, exhibiting pure glee because they know, there’s a little bit of Santa in all of us.
It’s all about believing, and understanding that we’re all a little part of something much bigger than just ourselves.
    That’s the way we roll.
