  1. Last winter Snowy Owls were spotted in Florida and the population keeps going up. The guess is that lacking snow cover the mice population is increasing up north and easier to hunt. So more snowy owl babies. They might be as common as seagulls in a few years.

  2. A snowy owl, perhaps the same one, sat high up in the branches of a tree on Mt. Pleasant Ave., near Banner Hill Way, for 4 hours on Wednesday (23).

    It didn’t move in all that time, even when a gang of 5 crows that frequent the neighborhood tried to chase it off by jabbering at it and swooping at it in a menacing fashion. The owl didn’t flinch and was as stoic as Bill Belichick at a post-game press conference. The crows gave up after 15 minutes of their futile effort and the owl sat quietly until it finally left, (apparently),for the Fish Pier and an afternoon snack.

    What a handsome bird!
