Karen works with colored clay using a process influenced by the Japanese technique, Neriage (nair ee ah ghee). She wedges color into porcelain clay. Then she takes these colors and puts them together in a block. She slices this and re-shapes again and again until she has a thin slab of patterned clay she can form into exquisite treasures including Hors d’oeuvre Platters, Saki Sets, Salt Cellars, and Whimsical Mini Teapots.
The end result is beautiful, playful and infinitely usable for visual pleasure, everyday meals and/or entertaining in style.
