I that knew my friend Marty liked my Jeep Liberty. He like it so much he bought the first Jeep Renegade on Cape Ann (Hull No. 1). We took a ’round the Cape ride in his new car last week on one of those Spring Fever days that stirred the instincts of every teenager, only 60 years later.
After not driving since January 2014 because of illness, the fever hit me, hard. Tomorrow I’ll take the shop vac, towel, wax, and Windex to my 2009 “Trail Ready” Liberty. I can’t drive it yet to insure both my safety and that of others, but I can run my hand over the smooth metal as I did with my Dad’s 1956 Buick Special station wagon.

During the taping of GloucesterCast 135 at Cape Ann TV I was completely baffled at the responses from the panel when asked which they would rather step in if they were wearing flip flops and didn’t have a choice in the matter- dog poop or gum. Donna, Kenny and Toby all chose dog poop which is shocking.
Am I crazy for choosing gum? I figure you can put ice on the gum and get it off, but I want no part of any flip flops that have trudged through dog poop. In the dumpster they go!

Shimon Peres (1923- )
Born in Poland, Peres’s family moved to Palestine in 1934. Raised on a kibbutz, he entered politics through an agriculturalist party and with his mentor David Ben-Gurion was one of the people who created the state of Israel in the 40’s. By 1952, at the age of 29, he was Director-General of the Ministry of Defense, the youngest person to hold that post. Elected to the Knesset in 1959, he spent the rest of his life in the Israeli government as, sequentially, Minister of Defense, Transportation, Finance, Foreign Affairs and Prime Minister. He was instrumental in the Oslo Peace Accords with the PLO, for which he received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994. He served as the 9th President of Israel from 2007 to 2014, the oldest serving head of state. Barack Obama recognized him with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2012.

Gloucester MA, February 26, 2015 —The Rocky Neck Art Colony (RNAC) is pleased to announce the exhibition: When The Fish Came First, Nubar Alexanian’s photographs of Gloucester, opening May 28 and running through June 28, 2015 at the Cultural Center at Rocky Neck, 6 Wonson Street, Gloucester. Spanning forty years, the exhibit features a stunning series of color photographs originally published in GEO magazine in 1981 and never before exhibited. For this work, taken over an eighteen month period, Alexanian accompanied the Brancaleone family of Gloucester on four ten-day trips to Georges Bank aboard the Joseph & Lucia II. It is the most comprehensive contemporary document of commercial fishing in New England before its steep decline.
While the Joseph and Lucia series forms the heart of this collection, the exhibition’s upland component features large format black and white panoramas juxtaposed with images of everyday life and the intimate and collective rituals that give Gloucester its unique character. “In his fish photos Alexanian finds a metaphor of the people of Gloucester – endangered, atavistic, communal – and they’re as riveting as they are forlorn.” Christopher Millis, The Boston Phoenix

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Nubar Alexanian is a documentary photographer and filmmaker. His photographs have been featured in The New York Times Magazine, Life, Fortune, Geo, Time and Newsweek among others, and has had solo exhibitions at The Walker Art Center, The Corcoran Gallery of Art, The Burden Gallery, The Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, The LOOK3 Festival of the Photograph and other venues.
He is currently working on Scars of Silence, a feature documentary film about the Armenian Genocide, and directing Science All Around Us, a groundbreaking educational television series hosted by an exceptional 9-year-old boy who makes connections between scientific concepts and life in the everyday world.
