My husband and I saw several coyotes on Niles Pond ice yesterday afternoon. One of them was down on the ice and did not move at all; the others were gathered around and one, especially, seemed to not want to leave its packmate. We sensed that the prone animal was either dead or close to death. There were people in a nearby yard and so we went along our way but I still wondered if I should have called a wildlife agency. Sad.

I live on the 1st fairway of Bass Rocks Golf Course and every morning around 6:15 these very same coyotes, 5 of them, walk along the side of our property perhaps coming from Good Harbor Beach back to their den across the course and into the woods. I watch them in awe and just let them be without making a sound.
