The Manchester Historical Museum will be presenting their next lecture on Tuesday, March10 at the Sacred Heart Parish Hall (62 School Street, Manchester). The program will be “At Your Service – The People Who Made Gracious Living Possible” presented by Nancy Coffey from Beverly Farms. For the past several years Nancy has been researching the lives of North Shore servants through oral histories, photographs and archival research. Come and hear her stories about the local girls who cleaned molasses from the toilets in the spring, the butler who over-ruled the man of the house, the laundress who stepped in when the cook quit, and the mop boy who got a big surprise in the laundry room. Nancy will also bring along two of the devices used to summon servants at the turn of the 20th century. 6:30 refreshments, 7:00 program. MHM members free, nonmembers $10. Please RSVP by March 9.
