The Legend Returns- The Bobskill Chronicles Pick Up After A Six Year Hiatus

If you’re an old school FOB you remember The Bobskill Chronicles featuring Bobby Bobskill.  Well it’s been a while and after a little run in the joint Bobby is BACK and still up to his old tricks.

Here’s a little refresher from back in 2008 when it all began-

New rewards program for GHS honor students

OnARoll - banner

Joel Favazza submits-

There is no doubt that Gloucester High School students will play a pivotal role in the future success of our community. The O.A.R. (“On a Roll!”) program seeks to support these hard-working honors students by awarding O.A.R. Cards that allow for discounts at local stores, restaurants, and other businesses.

The program aims to both provide a show of community support for the accomplishments of our brightest young adults, and also to foster the habit of “shopping locally” from a young age. Through the O.A.R. program, we hope to incentivize teenager consumers who will develop shopping habits that will carry on throughout their adult life.

Instead of heading down Rt. 128 to “the Mall” or further to grab a bite to eat, buy a new shirt, or find a group activity to pass free time, GHS students that make honor roll all four terms in any given school year will have access to a list of local merchants offering them discounts and special promotions, showing them that what they’re looking for is right here in their hometown.

Over time, we hope utilizing the O.A.R. Card helps recipients (and their peers) recognize that Gloucester is not just a place to lay your head down at night—but a unique and vibrant community in which you can work, live, and play. And we hope they will remember this and choose to remain in, or return to, Gloucester as they transition from high school students to young professionals and college students, as they start families of their own, and during each successive chapter of life thereafter.

We plan to award the first edition of O.A.R. Cards at the end of the 2014-2015 school year. Already, over a dozen local businesses have signed on as participants. We’re hoping to continue to build this list throughout the school year. If you or your business are interested in participating, please contact us at GloucesterOAR@gmail.com .

ZDF Filming at Gloucester’s Eastern Point Lighthouse

ZDF film Gloucester MA ©Kim Smith 2014This morning while filming B-roll and “Bee”-roll for my nature documentaries I came upon the German National television channel’s ZDF cast and crew getting organized for a day of filming at the Eastern Point Lighthouse. They are shooting films based on the Katie Fforde romance novels. Not considered a mini-series, four separate films are being shot all around the North Shore and filming will continue to take place in Gloucester this week.

“All of Fforde’s stories-into-movies focus on the lead character (usually a woman) overcoming obstacles to achieve a dream. Each film runs for 90 commercial-free minutes.”

For the past several seasons the show has been filmed in and around Poughkeepsie, New York. This year, the producers wanted to change it up and film north of Boston. I hope they decide to come back next year!
