  1. This is HERON, designed by BB Crowninshield and built by RT Green in Chelsea in 1911. In 1995 she was purchased by Bob Pulsch of Port Monmouth, NJ, and this is what he had to say, “It was hogged and twisted. When I got into it I found most of the wood was rotten and mushrooms were growing on the frames. I ended up building a completely new hull during the period from 1996 to 2002. I also replaced the interior exactly as noted on the plans. I re-launched the boat in 2002 and completed the interior in 2004. I initially thought I would re-use the deck and deck beams but they were also rotted. I did salvage the cabin trunk, all the spars and the ballast.”

HERON raced three times in Gloucester, 2004 (first place – Ramsey Trophy), 2005 and 2006. In 2007 she was run down and sunk by a tug and barge in the C&D Canal. She was salvaged and found to be structurally sound thanks to Bob’s skill and attention to detail in reconstruction. It is hoped that HERON will again be restored by her new owner although that is to be determined.
