Joey – our child is all grown up!

Downtown Gloucester Block Party

With apologies to all the good people who run the block parties now, I finally finished the new Block Party website with 9 days to spare before the first block party NEXT SATURDAY, JULY 21!

This block party crew has really taken it to a whole new level (more music, more dancing, more dining, more entertainment, magic, etc,) and next Saturday, you’ll see what I mean — our child is all grown up!

They call themselves Blockheads (see a whole page about them here) and they asked that I keep the page about the founders and guess what?  I found a picture of an original Block Party committee meeting taken by our boy Joey using a timer (If you want to know why we’re all smiling so much click here and find out).

So what ever your plans are for the rest of this month, be sure to go downtown next Saturday at 6pm — stores are open ’till 11!

See you there . . .

From East to West and in between
Gloucester’s Block Party is filled with fun
With people we may first meet or have long since seen
Re-united together with memories of the past and songs sung
The Fishermen and Lobstermen and blue collars too
Sharing happy moments of heritage past
Getting a taste of real cooking and many things to do
A night to be shared by all too long last
Music and Laughter and dancing in the street
The smiles of many happy faces
All the different varieties of drinks and food to eat
Under predawn sun and starlit night to embrace
This my friends is the true heritage of Gloucester’s years
That the sands of time will never release to the seas
Through good times and yes and in times of fears
The future of our beloved Gloucester will be of progress
As long as we have Faith and believe

  2. Gloucester’s Edge
    By Peter A. Todd 03/06/2010

Sitting and admiring our inner harbor
I can vision the Fishermen of Gloucester’s past
Names that are now etched at the harbors edge
Of the Fisherman’s statue in sunlight cast
Our harbor embraced by the colors of our nation
With the many flags that stand along its rails
This our Island of Gloucester God’s gift of creation
With its Fishing boats and Schooners at full sail
Street lights that mirror years long ago
Tourists and City folk strolling on by
Dogs of all breeds chasing at their owners heels
Under God’s sky of blue and cotton puffed skies
Its walkway filled with statues of marble and stone
Of the our heritage of our hero’s of yesterday
Fishermen and soldiers who made Gloucester their home
Now a place for adults to enjoy and children to play

  3. Many of the St. Ann High School class of 1965 are getting together at the block party can’t wait. Maybe this would be good idea for other classes of the High School we really could make a huge re-union.

  4. We’re gonna do some special things in the gallery for the Block Party. For example, there’s a mini keg of Heinekin in my ‘fridge that’s taking up too much room. And I suspect that all five “best of the West” (End) shops will also be Rockin’ the Block. That would be the POP Gallery, Cape Ann Olive Oil Company, Premier Imprints, The Cave, and me. The Class of ’65 is welcome!
