As the net reel reels the net on, the crew guide it back and forth so it will be loaded evenly onto the spool. A net this large you wouldn’t want all bunched up in the middle.

Here you see the men guiding the net off of the boom truck. They are making sure it is spread properly so once it gets loaded onto the net reel on the boat, it will set off from the boat properly and not all messed up when it hits the water fishing. On evenly distributed=off evenly distributed.

I wonder how much the nets weigh? I mean the nets these boats tow are enormous, filling up this big truck. My guess is wet they would weigh 18,000 pounds and dry 15,000 pounds.
My guess is based on the size of that truck bed. It looks like it could carry 8 vats, and each vat holds roughly 1500 pounds.

The Bean had her first Swatting at Imaginary Butterflies lesson yesterday.
I’d call it a tennis lesson but she probably inadvertantly hit more imaginary butterflies than tennis balls.
I call ’em like I see ’em. Hopefully I’ll never be one of those parents that walks away from something like that and tell all my friends and relatives how my children are really advanced for their age.
I like to joke with people that my girls are 150th percentile at stuff and then look for the reactions as they try to figure out what that means.
Like after a doctors visit my mom will ask how it went and I’ll tell her that the Bean is 150th percentile for math reasoning. I’m not sure if she knows if I’m kidding or not, but it’s really just a jab at all those obnoxious parents that blabber on and on about their average children as if they were superstars.

BOSTON (AP) — New green rubber bands that will bind the claws of Massachusetts lobsters beginning this weekend won’t save the lobsters from the dinner table. But they signify a state initiative aimed at saving whales.
Lobsters caught in state waters will be given the bands, stamped “Massachusetts” and depicting whale tails, to highlight the state’s efforts to make the seas safer for whales by requiring lobstermen to use rope to connect their traps that rests on the ocean floor, rather than line that floats and could entangle whales.
