Saturday, it was, needless to say, was a stormy day. As the rain was letting up took a ride to see the ocean. It was low tide, but the ocean was rolling and singing a song. There were some surfers trying to surf at Eastern Point, they were not having much luck.

Sept. 14, 2023
When it’s time it’s time. The lifeguard chairs, most of the stairs, and the footbridge are removed every year, and for this season it was at sunrise Sept 14. Rockport DPW is also on top of the storm prep ahead of this weekend’s Tropical Storm warning forecast. They work fast to beat the tides.
september 1,2 / schooner festival
I saw this beach chair and thought perfect chair for Schooner Festival weekend. Imagine chairs on the boulevard printed with custom vessels (iconic racers and current ones). The smoke in the sky again from fires in Canada.
september 8- Black SEa and black clouds then blue Sky, no rain or rainbow
When the sea is black, the photo with the blue sky pockets and the clouds like waves–the last sequentially–was unexpected. Note the scale of the Long Beach cottages vs. clouds.

Walking on Long Beach 11/24/2021 – Steady waves. Light on sea spray rainbows (a watched pot never boils…) November surfers.
faint rainbow spin drift
vid clip Long Beach 11/24/2021- November rainbow sea spray; love when sunlight breaks through spin drifts– tossed rainbows. Faint and infrequent this day.

The photos were taken after the storm on Tuesday morning, at dead low tide, standing almost to Salt Island and looking toward Thacher Island. I don’t recall ever seeing such enormous waves at low tide and will stay tuned in the future. Look for the surfer’s head in the waves 🙂

Thinking of those dealing with no power, evacuation and such destructive, icy flooding.
January 5, 2018 vs Storm January 4, 2018
Today here come the surfers
Rocks have clear icy layers and crunch pack, some pockets of drift
I’m following up on yesterday’s post, which was stopped midstream as we lost power. Scroll below for quick snaps and videos from my walk to Good Harbor Beach, Long Beach, and side streets.
GOOD HARBOR BEACH 1.4.18
About 2PM January 4, 2017 (high tide was several hours earlier)
Good Harbor Beach on sand looking out to Salt Island (from Good Harbor Beach Inn side of beach) Yes, the waves were rolling over the wall up to the homes but infrequently at this time. I don’t know what it was like at high tide.
(more Good Harbor Beach and Long beach below the break)
As one bank of clouds departed, another soon took its place. The waves were wild and wooly but the surfers were out in full force at GHB and Brace Cove.
Pretty Spindrift Wave
Not for the faint of heart–from where I was standing way across on the other side of the Cove you could hear the roar of the waves slamming Brace Rock–would you ever try this?
Beautiful fifty degree weather today and happy to be home to Gloucester. Running errands this morning and just had to stop at the Jodrey Fish Pier for the view and take a walk on Good Harbor Beach on this glorious and unseasonably warm day.
