Gloucester Lobster Trap Tree – gather round

The lobster trap tree in downtown Gloucester at Main and Pleasant Streets basked in glorious early morning light and festooned with buoys hand painted by kids at Cape Ann Art Haven.

A welcome pause any time any vantage.

Inspired by ROTC, there will be a telethon cookie dough booster fundraiser for the GHS boys basketball team on December 10, 2018 from 4-6pm. Team players will speed dial for one hour to try to sell as much cookie dough as possible in that time. Fundraising goes back into the program to assist with the banquet and maybe some swag. Please email Rosa rmortillaro@gloucesterschool.com if you’d like to be added to the ‘cookie call list’ December 10th to help support the team. Rosa has helped GHS sports teams for years. Maybe this year the kids will get some team spirit sweatshirts or gear.

Boy, if this was a Two-Alarm Fire…Long Beach Road the morning after

Reports were that two houses in Gloucester were on fire which is understandable as there was a beautiful attached in-law suite for this local family. Last evening’s sights, crunching sounds and smells were ferocious. The homeowners are safe. Firefighters and emergency personnel faced that challenging inferno and are ok. The house was deemed a total loss. Cape Ann Motor Inn at Long Beach provided shelter.

Here’s the link to Arianna MacNeill’s swift and fine reporting for the Gloucester Daily Times  Two-Alarm Fire Ravages Gloucester home.

Today  here come the surfers

Rocks have clear icy layers and crunch pack, some pockets of drift

I’m following up on yesterday’s post, which was stopped midstream as we lost power. Scroll below for quick snaps and videos from my walk to Good Harbor Beach, Long Beach, and side streets.

GOOD HARBOR BEACH 1.4.18

About 2PM January 4, 2017 (high tide was several hours earlier)

Good Harbor Beach on sand looking out to Salt Island (from Good Harbor Beach Inn side of beach) Yes, the waves were rolling over the wall up to the homes but infrequently at this time. I don’t know what it was like at high tide.

(more Good Harbor Beach and Long beach below the break)
