Marion is from Manchester and is a member of both the North Shore and Rockport Art Associations. Due to a private memorial service that will be taking place Sunday for Evelyn Howe with her family, there will be no Mug Up at Khan Studio and the GMG Gallery this Sunday, June 23. There will however be a Mug Up at Aquatro Gallery next door, 77 Rocky Neck Ave., G4, hosted by Gigi Mederos and Stevie Black.
At 1:30 pm Sunday, there will be an Evelyn Howe Memorial Mug Up at Khan Studio for family, friends and acquaintances of Evelyn that would like to come have a champagne toast, cheesecake and other goodies and companionship in Evelyn’s memory.

This is not to be missed. If you haven’t experienced a GMG Mug Up Food Competition at Khan Studio and the Good Morning Gloucester Gallery, you have been missing something big.
It is time for the World Famous GMG Biennial Deviled Egg Competition. Those who would like to have their special deviled eggs included in the competition, be featured on the blog, and go down in deviled egg history, just bring ‘em on Sunday, June 9th at 9:15 am at Khan Studio and the Good Morning Gloucester Gallery, 77 Rocky Neck Ave., Gallery 3. All those masterful in the art of deviled egg making are welcome. Beware, I did not enter my world famous deviled eggs in the last competition to give people a fair chance. Not so this year – I’ll be there with my eggs and will show no mercy. Gigi Mederos has already started posturing, as she wants to go home with the ribbon again this year. We’ll just see about that Ms. Gigi. Haven’t heard a word from Kathy Chapman yet, but she is a strong contender who has a couple of GMG food competition ribbons under her belt.
We’ve assembled a distinguished panel of experienced deviled egg competition judges, including: Joey C., Ed Collard, Paul Morrison, Adam Bolonsky and newcomer, Richard Rosenfeld. FOB Jeanie MacLachlan is originally from Beverly but has lived near Mont Pelier, VT for the past 20 years. She is an avid and regular reader of GMG and visits here frequently. Here she is representing at Khan Studio and the GMG Gallery. Later in the day, Donna Ardizonni was walking on Shore Road when Jeanie came up to her and told her she knew her from GMG. What a small and wonderful world GMG creates for so many.

These are some photos from last Sunday’s Grand Opening Mug Up at Khan Studio and the Good Morning Gloucester Gallery – some great ones by Charlie Carroll and some by me. The Grand Opening Mug Up was an amazing event, made even better by the fact that Joey was able to come and stay most of the morning. Kudos, shout outs and thanks for Ann McKay for her delicious cheesecake with strawberries, Deb Schradieck for her awesome peanut butter and jelly muffins and egg and sausage casserole; Ann & Bob Kennedy for the infamous carmelized bacon and chocolate dipping sauce; Donna Ardizzoni for being the health conscious one to bring a bowl of fresh fruit salad (with whipped cream on the side); Greg Bover brought one of his famous GMG logo cakes (chocolate this time); Sister Felicia’s scicilian pizza and baba rum cakes made with Ryan & Woods Folly Cove Rum were a big hit; Pat Ciaramitaro came bearing coconut madelines and candy; James & Anna Eves brought pastries from Cafe Cecelia’s; Kim Smith adorned the place with fresh picked flowers from her garden; Alicia Cox sent over a batch of Maime’s Kitchens famous muffins and sweet rolls. There were many other contributions to an amazing Mug Up, but as always, I lost track in the confusion. We had a nice toast of champagne and pomegranate juice for Evelyn, and a good time was had by all.

Anne and Bob Kennedy can’t be here tomorrow, so they dropped off a batch of her carmelized bacon with chocolate dipping sauce. Uncle Marty Daley was in the house and got to try some. I bet he’ll be back tomorrow for more. Then Deb dropped off a batch of peanut butter and jelly muffins. I had to try one, just to make sure they were ok for everyone. They are to die for. BEWARE! Wonderful fun at the E.J. Kahn and Good Morning Gloucester Gallery first Mug Up of the season. It was great to see the old gang and all the new faces. As is usual, guests brought the most delectable breakfast treats. The gallery walls and shelves are chock-a-block full of gorgeous new paintings, photographs, and pottery. Thank you E.J. for opening your gallery (and heart) to this crazy group and for creating a wonderfully positive weekly Sunday get-together! I have a feeling its going to be a GREAT summer! Everyone is always welcome and we hope to see you at the next Mug Up!

The Flower Eater
The flower and foliage of the chive (Allium schoenoprasum) plant are edible. Here’s our fearless leader Joey demonstrating.
Allium schoenoprasum is the only member of the Allium genus native to both the Old and New Worlds. Bees are attracted to the flowers and the plants are often grown amongst beds and borders to help ward of insects, the dreaded Japanese beetle, for example.
The Opening of the Out of Africa exhibit of photography and paintings by Judith Monteferrante, Rich Seeley and Roger Salisbury was a big hit, and an amazing grand finale guest artists exhibit opening for the first season of Khan Studio and the Good Morning Gloucester Gallery on Rocky Neck. We have never had so many people packed inside and waiting outside the Gallery for an event this season – and we’ve had many very well attended events. A gallery talk was scheduled for 6:00 pm, but the crowd was so thick that it was impossible for the artists to even consider giving a talk. Neighbors watching the flow of people in and out, estimated visitors throughout the evening at between 150 and 200 people. Kudos to the Gloucester Daily Times for putting the opening info on the front page of Saturday’s paper, as many people who came said they had learned about it from the Times. For those of you who wanted to see the exhibit but couldn’t make it to the opening, or those who came but couldn’t see the work because of all the people, the show will be up through October 6, so please come back and see the exhibit daily from noon to 8:00 pm. There are also videos of the animals and a digital frame with a slideshow of many of the photos taken but not physically exhibited in the gallery. This exhibit is truly a great adventure, an African safari that you can vicariously experience through these artists’ work. Don’t miss it.

To say that I’m excited about the gallery would be an understatement. I’m looking forward to seeing people at the openings and being part of the Rocky Neck Community. EJ did an incredible job!
The idea EJ had to offer artists two week art shows in a guest artist space is brilliant. For a small amount of money an artist can have space at a high traffic area on Rocky Neck, they get the incredible power and reach of the Blog (lately 17-24,000 people per day) to talk about their show, and they can have their own opening for their two week stint. Any artist that is interested in what I consider to be an awesome opportunity should contact EJ an lock down a two week span.
Imagine this- you are a FOB and you are coming to Gloucester for a couple of weeks this summer. You could come and have an art show on the oldest Art Colony in the Country. Or if you are a local but don’t have a studio space to show your stuff, you could use the power of GMG to get your stuff shown and promoted on the blog and feed off that energy for a two week exhibit. No-brainer, right?
