CLAIRE WYZENBEEK | Still Alight

October 1 – October 30, 2022

Opening reception: Saturday, October 1st from 2-5pm

Jane Deering Gallery, 19 Pleasant St., Gloucester, MA

Works from the exhibition can be viewed at:https://www.janedeeringgallery.com/claire-wyzenbeek-still-alight

The imagery in Claire’s paintings uses life events, emotions and states of awareness as
inspirations. This awareness comes from an internal truth or a deep connection to the natural world. Color has an emotional resonance that is often the starting point of a painting. Her figures and landscapes exist in symbolic settings, painted from both memory and life. Some juxtapose opposing sensations like joy and suffering, or love and anguish. In other works, she explores a specific feeling or physical experience. Recurring themes are renewal, journeys, the female body, relationships, and the spiritual power of Nature.

About the artist

Claire Wyzenbeek holds a BFA from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and a Diploma (Painting and Art History) from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Massachusetts. She maintains a studio in Gloucester on Cape Ann, Massachusetts. Wyzenbeek teaches art at Yes Art Space in Beverly, Massachusetts. Her work has been exhibited in numerous shows regionally and nationally. Follow her at clairewyzenbeek.com and on Instagram @claire_skylark.

Fun at Khan Studio and the GMG Gallery

fun at khan studio and GMG Gallery

No one can say we don’t have lots of fun at Khan Studio and the Good Morning Gloucester Gallery at Madfish Wharf on Rocky Neck.  In case anyone is wondering what the bunch of us are doing – we’re downing these amazing jello shots made by Alicia Penderosa.

The gallery is now open and the first major event will be our Grand Opening Mug Up on Sunday, May 26th from 9:00am-11:30 or so.   Most galleries have their openings in the evening so they can feed you lovely little tidbits and ply you with alcohol to entice you to buy something.  Since this is Khan Studio and the Good Morning Gloucester Gallery, we’re going for a Good Morning grand opening with deviled eggs, cheesecake and mimosas (in memory of Evelyn), so some plying will take place along with good morning fun and food.  There will of course be coffee and tea for those who don’t imbide that early in the day – but as Wendie Demuth always said, it’s 5 o’clock somewhere.

Time and Tide Opening Reception Masquerade and Illusion Sept 17th

Friend of the Blog Kristina Brendel writes in-

T&T Masquerade

Time & Tide Fine Art, 4 Market Street in Ipswich will hold an Opening Reception for their latest exhibition, Masquerade and Illusion on Friday, September 17 from 7-9 pm.

Time & Tide is teaming up with Time Well Spent to collect books at the reception for More Than Words, a nonprofit social enterprise that empowers youth who are in the foster care system, court involved, homeless, or out of school to take charge of their lives by taking charge of a business. Visit http://mtwyouth.org for more information about More Than Words.
Masquerade and Illusion includes painting, photography, multi-media and sculpture from area artists including Marilyn Swift, John Geesink, Anne Demeter, and Thorpe Feidt. Also included in the show are works by Belarusian painter Vladimir Kontsedailov. (The photograph is a detail from "Masquerade" by Kontsedailov.)

For the night of the reception only, Brian Brogan of The Painted Story (whose studio and gallery is on the third floor of 2 Central Street in Ipswich) will display his work as well. Brogan’s work is primal, shamanistic; showing human’s indigenous spirituality and equality.

"I’m hoping that we will raise a few eyebrows with this exhibition," smiles Kristina Brendel, Time & Tide’s director. "I’d really like to push the expectations of a local gallery past the tried and true into artwork that makes people pause and wonder."

Masquerade and Illusion will be on display at Time & Tide until November 15.
