We love GMG and all of Gloucester–had the chance to visit in July. Thanks for keeping Gloucester close by even though geography keeps us apart!
Sincerely,

Spirit of Massachusetts was launched on April 28, 1984 at the Charleston Navy Yard in Boston, Massachusetts. She is modeled after the 1889 fishing schooner Fredonia, designed by Edward Burgess. The Gloucester fishing schooners were widely known as "fast and able" vessels, and Fredonia was widely known for her speed. Spirit of Massachusetts proudly upholds that tradition to this day.
Spirit of Massachusetts was built by her original owners for service as a sail training vessel for young people. She also served as a good-will ambassador for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts from 1984 until 1987. Ocean Classroom Foundation began chartering Spirit for our own educational programs in 1997, and subsequently purchased her in 2000.
Here are some previously unreleased pictures from the kick off of the Amazing Race Season 17 which I captured in pictures and video. The Season kicks off in Gloucester Ma. and generally folks don’t get to see the very beginning of the show until it airs but we got you some insider footage to check out before the season begins on TV. According to the Amazing Race 17 Wikipedia Page “The season premieres on September 26, 2010 with a special 90-minute episode before returning to its regular hour-long format the following week.” The Amazing Race has won an Emmy every year since its creation in 2003 but got knocked off this year by Top Chef.

My husband Rob and I come as often as possible to visit your wonderful area. Thank you for all your work on GoodMorningGloucester – it keeps up up to date. Yesterday we visited the Fisherman’s Memorial Service, thanks to your mention of it. Thought you might want a couple of pictures from the experience and separately I will send the video from my iPhone. Very moving service for two people who realize that it is because of these hardworking men that we have our favorite seafood whenever we want it. Very humbling, to say the least. This is one of the top three weekends to visit Gloucester IMO. We usually have clear dry weather and the schooners are just gorgeous to go aboard. If you haven’t already got tickets to go aboard the Thomas Lannon I’d call Kay in the office ADSAP and make arrangements. Captain Tom will show you a great time and tell you all about the Schooners in port as you glide around Gloucester Harbor. Check out The Thomas Lannon Website here for details on how to get tickets for a cruise.

She’s a beaut Clark.
GLOUCESTER, Mass. — It’s 6 a.m. on a Wednesday at Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, and 80 or so groggy athletes come stumbling over the wooden bridge and over the dunes. Their half-open eyes look toward the harbor, which is covered in a pea soup fog. The horizon’s a seamless coat of gray, merging sea and sky into one. It seems you can swim in the air it’s so humid.
Some of the teenagers are wearing T-shirts with the words “Dedication Leads to Domination” spelled out in maroon letters on the back. They wear them like badges of honor. It’s proof positive they endured last summer’s challenge.
Now they’re back for more.
Every summer since 1995, Gloucester assistant football coach Mike Lattof has led the Fishermen through an offseason workout program. Starting in July and ending a couple of weeks before the start of the fall athletic season, Lattof orchestrates a training regimen that aims to increase speed and agility.
