A Few Weeks Left for Savour!

A Few Short Weeks Left!
We are coming to the end of Savour’s run. Things have moved along faster than expected, thanks to the incredible support of our customers who have been purchasing cases of their favorites and ordering others with the holiday season in mind. We don’t know for sure when our license will transfer to the new owner, but it could happen anytime. So, we are planning to wrap everything up with a closing date of Saturday, October 19 at 6 pm.
This Saturday we will taste out a few classic cheese and wine combinations: Gewurztraminer with Lamb Chopper sheep’s milk cheese and Tawny Port with Rogue River Smokey blue. These combinations sing!
We are continuing our sale with discounts of 10 – 15%! Also remember, you will get that same discount on anything you buy with your wine, including beer, cheese, pantry items, and wine tools! I know of no other business that does this, so take advantage of this while you can.
That extra perk is important because we just got a cheese order in with many of your favorites: Delice de Bourgogne brie, Fromager d’ Affinois, Georgian Stilton, Rogue River Smokey Blue, Cambozola Black Label, Kaltbach Creamy Swiss and 3 classics from Cypress Grove in California: Midnight Moon, Lamb Chopper and Humboldt Fog – fresh cut and ready to go!
We have plenty of olives (I made some marinated) as well as cured meats and nuts for your charcuterie plates. AND – I picked up 4 cases of Boulart Bakery baguettes you buy frozen and cook for 10 minutes with a taste like fresh-baked bread. We have lots of crackers, jams, chocolate and the best olive oil and balsamic vinegar in bulk (at a great price)! The fridge is full of New England brewery beers – from Cambridge “Lamplighter” to Maine “Lunch” and Rockport “Jetty Juice.” All that will be discounted at the same rate as your wine, when you purchase 6 bottles of wine or more!

10 BEST FRIED CLAMS list from Yankee Mag New England today

A friend in New York just emailed me this link: 10 Best Fried Clams in New England, courtesy Yankee Magazine’s New England Today. A couple of local Cape Ann favorites made the list. The comment board is climbing fast. I have friends that swear by the Cupboard in Stage Fort Park and various restaurants in Gloucester, Rockport and Essex. Did yours make the 2018 list?

SENA= Seafood Expo North America, Boston, MA 2018

Article Oldest Fishing Port Shows How It’s Done  by Jason Huffman

“BOSTON, Massachusetts, US — Sefatia Romeo Theken, the mayor of nearby Gloucester, Massachusetts, warns the roughly 70 Seafood Expos North America (SENA) attendees who jam into an upstairs room for her group’s tasting reception that she is hard to say “no” to. MY MIND IS BLOWN! COVE CAFE IS OPEN AND READY FOR THE HOLIDAYS!!

I’m so amazed and excited for our new and unique food destination, the COVE CAFE!

Located in the heart of Lanesville, the secret side of Gloucester, the Cove Cafe hits the ground running with amazing food, hospitality, and style. If you live on this side of town, you know the places to grab great sandwiches on the run,  food for a party or event, or an amazing cup of coffee and breakfast, are scarce at best. For the most part, we have Capt. Hooks for pizza, subs, and fried seafood, then Willow Rest for amazing specialty items, sandwiches, and to-go items. But now we can spread the love to Cove Cafe! From Christmas cookie trays to daily specials, soups, stews, and sandwiches, they are sure to have something for everyone!

I’ve had several very good Cubano sandwich, amazing coffee, sweet delights, and a smile with amazing service every time I’ve been in. Stop by and see Alisha and her family, you will not be disappointed!!

OH! And if you call by Thursday, Dec. 21st. you can get your holiday cookie platers, party trays, or homemade pies for the holiday!!  facebook.com/thecovecafegloucester

The Cave – cheese, wine and chocolate shop

The Cave- cheese, wine, and chocolate shop, 44 Main Street, #GloucesterMA, is another great local businesses where one stop shopping works! On Thanksgiving weekend, Small Business Saturday, the jingle of the opening door was steady. Customers were in and out picking up host gifts and a new specialty cheese, wine or pate. Laura remembers her regulars and their particular favorite eats and drinks, and better still what they might like to try next.

Who Brought the Magic for a great cause?

I don’t think that there are many individual YMCA or towns that could pull this fundraiser off so well. They don’t have Rick Doucette and the rest of the great staff in Gloucester or such a ridiculous abundance of local foodie establishments and culture. Here’s a list of Gloucester, Cape Ann and North Shore great eats and drinks establishments that participated this year:

1606 Restaurant, Beauport Hotel, Gloucester; Azorean Restaurant, Gloucester; Cake Ann, Gloucester; Cape Ann Brewing Company, Gloucester; Cape Ann Foodie Tours, Gloucester; Captain Carlos, Gloucester; Classic Cooks Catering, Gloucester; Feather & Wedge, Rockport; Ipswich Ale Brewery; Italiano Restaurant & Bar, Gloucester; Jalapeno’s Mexican Restaurant, Gloucester; Latitude 43, Gloucester; Liquor Locker Gloucester; Mile Marker One Gloucester; Mojo coffee Beverly Cape Ann Farmers Market; Mom’s Kitchen Gloucester; Passports Restaurant Gloucester; Pigeon Cove Ferments; Pigeon Cove Tavern & Emerson Inn By the Sea, Rockport; Riverwalk Brewing Company, Newburyport; Ryan & Wood Distilleries, Gloucester; Sea Glass Restaurant @ Castle Manor Inn, Gloucester; Seaport Grille, Gloucester; Stones Pub & Eatery, Gloucester; Sugar Magnolias, Gloucester; Virgilio’s Italian Bakery, Gloucester

Dazzling fine food, desserts and drinks were at every turn. Feather & Wedge, 1606 Restaurant, Mile Marker One, Classic Cooks, Azorean, Sea Glass Restaurant, and Sugar Mags served winning main dishes. To die for desserts and specialty drinks were abundant. Virgilios cannolis were gone fast!

photos: Great fun taking snapshots at all the booths. (Apologies to Liquor Locker! The only photo that didn’t come out.)

Live Entertainment – Jerome Music

Sounds of Taste of Cape Ann thanks to fine musicians were John Jerome on guitar and vocals, and Steve Jerome on drums. Cameron sat in as a back up drummer.

Wouldn’t happen without the 9th Annual Taste of Cape Ann generous sponsors:

Platinum Sponsors: Institution for Savings and Cruiseport Gloucester

Presenting Sponsors: Beauport Financial Services, Robert Stewart PC, Tom Davis CPA

plus all the participating restaurants, hotels, specialty food and liquor businesses, and  local business support for all those gift basket raffles
