After the Storm

This is a painting I just finished of waves off the rocks at Annisquam Light, after the first little storm last week.  As an old surfer, painter, photographer and lifelong lover of the sea, I have long sought to catch/capture that perfect wave.  This one is close, but my quest still continues.

sunset over Wingaersheek Beach from Cambridge Beach in Annisquam
Painting by E.J. Lefavour

I was supposed to do my post at 3:00, but instead was out walking in the start of the storm. I don’t have a proper post ready to do, so I’m sending out a painting I recently completed of sunset over Wingaersheek Beach from Cambridge Beach in Annisquam – something a little warmer and gentler than what we have going on outside right now. Keep safe and warm everyone.

Halibut Point

Tidal Pool at ocean's edge in Halibut State Park
Painting by E.J. Lefavour

Did you know that Halibut Point is made of sheets of 440 million year-old granite that now descend from rocky headland to the tidal pools below. Beginning in the 1840s, granite was quarried from this area, first on a small scale and primarily along the coast, and then on a much larger scale when the Rockport Granite Company acquired the Babson Farm quarry and expanded its operation. Shortly after the Cape Ann granite industry collapsed in 1929, 17 acres on the eastern side of the quarry were purchased and given to the Trustees of Reservations who manages Halibut Point State Park for scenic, historic and conservation purposes. This is a painting of a tidal pool and some of those 440 million year-old rocks. Makes me feel really young.

Is Joey a WIMP? POLL!

Rocky Neck New Years Day Plunge 2010

Ok!  When I hang out at the Dock on Sunday Mornings Joey and I usually Talk on how to make the Blog better, get more “Exposure”, and add great content.

So Here’s my Idea. Joey always wants someone to create great content. Just ask Ed Collard who almost lost his life during the Corn Dog Challenge. Or ask Sharon Lowe who spent time Traveling on the Spirit of Massachusetts Schooner. Joey always seems use the excuse that he’s too busy down at the Dock to participate in these events. But! now it’s time for Joey to show he has some Balls.

It’s time for him to take the Plunge! The Rocky Neck New Years Day Plunge, That is. Can or will he do it?

Please show your support and vote Yes in this Plunge Poll. I’m sure he’ll try to talk some of the other Authors in joining him.

VOTE TODAY! and leave some comment encouraging Joey to take the Plunge!

EJ KHAN! GMG’s NEW AUTHOR

I talked with Joey down at the dock this morning to find out who this “EJ” was.

Of course he was no help at all. So I checked out her bio and thought I would post it so everyone would know who she is. It’s hard for some of us to explain who we are and why we want to share the Beauty of Cape Ann with all of you. Some of us are shy and humble to be a part of this exploding blog that GMG is. so here’s a little of EJ’s  bio.

    Gloucester, MA

Artist, researcher, spiritual traveler of this fascinating orb we inhabit, lover of life and all it has to offer.
Hi everyone out there in GMG land. My name is Ellen “E.J.” Lefavour (a/k/a “Ejay Khan” – the pseudonym I used during my years as a political activist artist). I am a newcomer to Cape Ann, and thrilled to be a new contributor to Good Morning Gloucester. I am a painter and photographer who has lived and worked as an artist for 20 years, since leaving the corporate world in 1990 to pursue my passion. My contributions to GMG will consist of images (either my paintings, photographs, or the occasional video) and a little history about the image, called “Did you Know?” I hope to come up with tidbits of information that people don’t already know, or had forgotten they knew. As I am new here, everything is new and fascinating to me, especially the amazing history, so bear with me if I post something that is common knowledge – I’ll eventually come up with something that’s new to you. Please take a minute to comment on my posts, like them or not, especially if you have corrections or something to add, as that is how I, and all of us, learn. Have a Good Morning Gloucester, and a blessed day.

A Gloucester Sketchbook Project Update from Carol McKenna’s Yorkie

A Gloucester Sketchbook Project Update from Carol McKenna’s Yorkie!

Little Buddha "ZOE" photo by Gisela Turner

This photo is part of the Sketchbook Project that my owner decided to enter. The project is keeping her busy and she says it is quite interesting. What is the Sketchbook Project? It is a traveling event whereby you enter the sketchbook that you purchased from the event after you have filled it up with art.  Then in January you send it in all finished. Then it begins to travel around the United States to various libraries and then comes home and is housed in the Brooklyn library. (wonder if they have dogs in the library?) In her Sketch Book, she is including pencil sketches, watercolor paintings, favorite quotes with watercolor background and recycled watercolor paintings that really didn’t work for her. Personally, I would have welcome the dropped pieces and chased them around. Nope, now she is going “green” and trying recycle everything. I will still hope for the “crumbs” that I can eat or use as a toy.
This particular collage piece above is one of those “recycled babies” ~ I looked real closely and laughed because in the center it looks like one of those “Where’s Waldo” types or even one of the guards at Buckingham Palace. Look closely and let me know if you see it also? My owner can get real weird sometimes; yet you know I love her and sit and watch faithfully what she creates. She thinks I am sleeping and that is okay I will keep watching. She is soooooooo much fun to watch.
Now, my owner has decided that I can be the writer of this blog because I am always snuggling up to her laptop and she says I interrupt her when she is typing so now I get to do the typing. Boy, what I get for being so faithful and loving. Yep, I get treats, walks, hugs and to be near her most of the time. She sometimes goes out and leaves me home to take care of the house. I don’t mind, I love her and I know she loves me. So, I try to give her good “mojo” so that she will be happy creating and creating wonderful creations from her soul. You are probably laughing that a “dog” is writing this but I am. I am a real smart Yorkie; not just a cutie, you know.
    Hugs and namaste,
    Artmusedog

PS. Do you know what namaste means?

This Weekends Workshops at The Cape Ann Healing Center

    hi there

We have two things happening this weekend!

    1. Osho Meditation : Nov 13th with Silvie Lockerova – Reiki and Matrix Quantum Healing Therapist

    Saturday, November 13th 1pm – 5pm; $25

What is Osho Meditation? For western people it is hard to meditate as people do in East, to sit still. Osho Meditations are therapeutic meditative techniques, using active motions and specific breathing or repetitive movements through which a person spontaneously brings self into the meditative state. Osho Meditations revibrate “the sleeping energy” and helps to put an individual into a present time.  Osho techniques are dynamic forms of meditation, involving safe, active physical movement.
To prepare for these meditations: eat light food the morning before the workshop (fruits and veg).  Bring a scarf, a light snack and plenty of water.  Wear sport clothes and bring extra sport clothes to change.
    To pre-register call 978-282-1191 x 1 or email silvielocker@hotmail.com for more information.

    Sundays Art Rock Found!

Sorry, Mr. Morrision your Scientific Theory of the Rock Jumping back into the Sea has been disproved.

    Email from the Finder;

“I just wanted to let you know that I found “your” Good Harbor Beach Rock and am just delighted with it.  I follow Good Morning Gloucester daily.  When I saw the rock on the site Sunday morning I just knew I had to have it.  So, my husband and I raced off to Good Harbor Beach because we knew just where it was perched and we believe we had an advantage because of the time change.  What makes this rock even more special to me is that I have worked in the house in which you sketched on the rock for the past 23 years.  Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to have such a special piece of art in my home.  I look forward to finding more of your Art Rocks.  Thank you”

The Finder didn’t give me her name. She’s welcomed to leave a comment if she likes.
