SHOULD GLOSTA GET IT’S OWN WEATHER APP?
If there’s one thing that pisses me off about the 4 or 5 weather apps I own on my iPhone, it’s that none of them ever make me laugh. “Really” you ask? “NO” dipstick, and nobody on this planet has ever thought that either. Well…until now that is.
Don’t get me wrong, I love me some weather and l love me some comedy. But for the life of me, I can’t figure out why a website dedicated to funny viral-videos would want to cash in on the weather app game. Isn’t weather hilarious enough on it’s own? Nothing says funny like a good ole’ life smashing storm. When a hurricane or tornado hits, I bet the app gets pretty gut busting’ funny on the quick.
I haven’t downloaded it yet, so I don’t know how amazingly hilarious this app is going to be. But I sure hope it pushes out some funny weather quirkiness like this:

Santa Monica and Day One in Sunny Southern California
Santa Monica Pier and Ferris Wheel
I arrived Tuesday afternoon and was met at LAX by Liv, after which Matt, Liv’s fiancĂ©, took us to a fun seal-frolicking lunch at a marina in Marina del Rey near Matt’s office. We then headed over to their home in Santa Monica. The spacious and light-filled modern apartment is only several blocks from the main boulevard, Ocean Ave, the luxury hotel-lined street that runs along the water.
Everyday we explored the local beaches and hiking trails. When Matt wasn’t working, he joined us, too. We had plans to visit several museums, but it was just too sunny and gorgeous outdoors and neither of us wanted to be cooped up inside. We discovered beautiful vistas and exquisite flora and fauna on every adventure and at every turn. Liv and Matt have done some extensive hiking and climbing in the few short months they have been living there and they were so sweet to show me some of their favorite spots, and we explored new places they had not yet been.
All along Ocean Ave it seemed as though everyone was outdoors walking, running, biking, and surfing in the warm late afternoon sun. I really wanted to see the Santa Monica Pier and where Matt had proposed to Liv.
The historic 100 year plus Santa Monica Pier is still used by anglers and is home to Pacific Park, with the world’s only solar-powered ferris wheel. The wheel is 85 feet in diameter, displaying a dynamic light show created by 160,000 energy efficient lights. Tired and hungry we left at sunset. I hope we can spend more time at the Pier on my next visit.

After dining at the charming, charming family owned and operated French restaurant, Le Petit Cafe, located only yards away from her front door, we went home to have a look at the Excel spread sheet Liv had organized, prepared to cram as many wonderful adventures as possible during the upcoming week.

Appears almost sold out, but there really are plenty of good seats left
If you’ve been following us for a while, you know we always warn you when a concert is about to sell out.  A quick glance at the seating chart for next Saturday’s John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band concert at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre, looks like it’s almost sold out.  But here’s the thing: there are lots of excellent seats left.  Most importantly, every seat at the Larcom has a great view and the sound is PERFECT!  For this show, the best available seats are in the Balcony and you can get them here.
This will be a special show, in part because local Rock Star, Gary Backstrom, is opening with his excellent band — and there’s a wonderful personal connection at play too: Gary’s drummer, Mike Doyle, studied at Berklee with Jackie Santos of the Beaver Brown Band.  You don’t want to wait until it really is sold out and miss this drummer’s reunion do you?

And just in case you’ve forgotten the cult hit Eddie and the Cruisers (for which John Cafferty wrote and sang his hit “On The Dark Side”, here it is (with the movie’s co-star and Beaver Brown member, Michael “Tunes” Antunes on sax).

Let’s welcome back Ms. Mari Martin and her oversized vocal pipes to our musical carousel of a stage this week. I know, I know, she just played here last Saturday with her rootin-tootin band of musical outlaws, but this time around we’re really mixing it up.
First, throw Mr. Mike DiBari, glitarist deluxe, a veteran ack-ack gunner, into a large pot. Then add the pulsations and random cacklings of that tonsorially-challenged timekeeper; Mr. Steevee Chaggaris. Fold in two quarts of vodka-infused bass by yours truly, then pour in 180 pounds of fatback organisms and keyboard stylings of the prolific Mr. Mark Retallack. Beat well. Strain through a felt hat. Insert large funnel into trepanned hole in skull.Pour. Ahhh…. Honey, I’m home……

Watch Harvard Women’s Hockey take on Cornell on Saturday.  They’re hoping to beat their attendance record and would love your help.  If you wear White to their Bright-Landry Hockey Center (hence the White the Bright) you also get to spin the prize wheel.  Total bonus is that Adult tickets are only $10 and children 12 and Under are totally FREE.  So, take in an awesome Ivy League hockey game for super cheap and then spend the money you saved at Fire and Ice or somewhere else cool.

We walked through the door very late last night, at 2:30am, after several delays leaving LAX. I am hoping to have time to look through and post some photos tomorrow after catching up with work.
During the visit with Liv and Matt, my husband Tom was contacted by the Théâtre du Petit Hébertot regarding the use of one of my photos of Rocky Neck in the fog. The theatre company is performing the Israel Horovitz play Park Your Car in Harvard Yard and included the mockup poster in their request. I love the poster and hope they use it!
