New public art: LOOK UP downtown! Ken Riaf’s Pleasant & Main ARTISPHERE sign, last chance to see group show at Trident, wall mural on Parsons HarborWalk
Cat Ryan submits-
Hi Joey,
Look up downtown if you haven’t yet seen the wonderful Pleasant & Main ARTISPHERE sign designed and project-boosted by artist and dealer, Ken Riaf. Then head on into his Jeffrey Marshall exhibit Law & Water Gallery.
I bet you’ve seen that Ed Touchette painting catching your eye through Trident’s window—last days to see the group exhibit at Trident Gallery. Just one week away from Ed Touchette’s solo exhibit at Trident. East Gloucester and Veterans School parents please get ready to bring your kids to see his exhibit. East Gloucester kids can find an Mr. Touchette throwback tucked away on East Main. Here’s a snapshot – try and find it.
Pass through Parsons down to Rogers or up to Main to see the progress of the artists of Art Haven/Hive. Their wall mural along a private building of Parsons Street is coming along and their depiction of Man at the Wheel is filling in…check it out! We have cleaned and scrubbed out graffiti on many walls, more than once, and are happy to see new public art added alongside the temporary FISH NET street mural and Dress Code’s.
I’m not sure what artist, Bob Stephenson, would have thought of the latest mural, but I wish he could have seen it. I do know he liked the Calderwood Fish Net mural and was grateful to have the graffiti painted out, the lights installed and anytime we swept and weeded.
Special thanks this week to the folks with Dan Leaman Landscaping and Maintenance Corp for extra clean up and weeding along Parsons Street.

Weekly Meeting of the Seagull Order of Rockport
First order on the meeting agenda is the fact that it is almost the end of tourist season and where the heck are we going to start finding our french fries?
Did anyone bring a pencil? Whose turn is to write the meeting minutes? Why do you always get the highest piling? What makes you so special?
I took this photo because I thought it was funny that 3 seagulls looked like they were having a meeting. I just realized that there are actually 4 seagulls sitting on the pilings.

Trails & Sails Event at Maritime Gloucester
oey,
Good morning! This is Jordan Olson from LEAP for Education. We’re currently looking for volunteers in the Gloucester area to help with our College Success Program. I’ve attached a volunteer flyer and I was hoping that you would be able to post it onto your GMG blog!
We’re especially looking for volunteers that can be there on Mondays for the Gloucester Program. Here is a bit about what a volunteer can expect to do:
- Prior to the meetings: Reading the pre-planned lesson plan and preparing for the activities by collecting materials, etc.
- Setting up the room, putting out the snacks, writing agenda on board for students, turning on computers, etc.
- Taking weekly attendance and keeping track of students’ grades on a quarterly basis
- Reminding students of upcoming meetings and follow up with students who are not meeting attendance standards
- Monitoring and assisting students as they work on assigned tasks (such as resume writing, college and/or scholarship applications, financial aid forms, registering for college entrance exams like SAT’s, Subject Tests, ACT’s, etc.)
- Cleaning up, putting away snacks, etc.
- Reflecting on the lesson and what the students got out of the activities so we can make changes for the future
If you have any questions/concerns please contact me.
Best wishes,
Jordan

Eric Is Looking For a Few Interesting Attics To Feature On His Show Attic Gold On The DIY Network-
Check it out! http://www.diynetwork.com/shows/attic-gold
It’s on tonight at 8PM on the DIY Network
Husband and wife picker/appraiser team Eric and Michelle Myers clean out junk-filled New England attics looking for hidden treasures. They’ll clean the space for free, but they get to keep what they find. And in these old Colonial houses, there’s no telling what’s hidden behind the rafters, from valuable vintage toys to mint-condition collectibles. After they pick the place clean, they transform the attic into a bright new space the whole family can enjoy.

FISH TALES ABOARD THE SCHOONER ADVENTURE!
And what a great bunch of fish tale story tellers! You may recall Greg Bover’s invitation from last week where the Gloucester Writer’s Center, Schooner Adventure, and Maritime Gloucester joined forces to bring us Gloucester’s Fish Tales held not at the writing center but from Webster Pier, on board the beautiful and welcoming Schooner Adventure. Maureen Aylward organized a fantastic line up of story tellers. I unfortunately was only able to stay for the first several story tellers but had the pleasure of listening to GMG FOB Ron Gilson, Bing McGilvray, Jim Masciarelli, and Jimmy Tarantino. I believe Henry Ferrini was filming the event so hopefully it will be available to see soon.

At first sight #proud of my Dad: HarborWalk Fisherman’s Wharf public art exhibition
Catherine Ryan submits-
At first sight, Leo Vitale finds the panel where his Dad’s boat is featured in a gorgeous Paul Frontiero photograph. His cousin and sisters join in.
Joey Ciaramitaro, Vito Giacalone, Mark McDonough, and Peter Prybot were the original authors of this outdoor display, before it was expanded and updated. The exhibit was restored because the original faded. Artists generously granted reproduction permission of their work. Go see their art! Look for Joey Ciaramitaro, Paul Frontiero, Martin Luster and Brenda Guiled. Individuals and organizations were generous too. More on this later…
More 2015 Gloucester MA Schooner Festival Pics From Mary Barker!
Mary Barker submits-
Hi Joey,
I hope the GMG world can tolerate a few more photos from the Schooner Festival.
Seanna Kelley, the executive director of the Mystic invited Three Sheets to the Wind aboard to sing on a Saturday sail.
She then invited me back aboard for the Parade of Sails and Race on Sunday so I could take some photos OF the
Adventure sailing, not just FROM the Adventure as I’ve done in the past. What a gorgeous vessel she is. I feel
so blessed to have now sailed on a 3 masted schooner. I was very excited to see the Essex built Lette G Howard
in port for the festivities. And the Columbia is nothing short of amazing. The Mystic’s crew were wonderful, and kept spirits high and
lively despite quickly falling into last place during the race and missing a buoy. How great it was that the weather was
so perfect for this amazing weekend.

Don’t be the dope that puts elderly and people with weakened immune systems at risk. Get your flu shot today!
Got my flu shot at CVS yesterday. Took five minutes. Most insurance covers it without a co-pay. The lady who gave it to me was explaining how much overwhelming evidence there is to say it saves lives and then brought up the anti-flouride crusaders and how much misinformation is out there.
She also told me it takes three weeks to take effect, so get ahead of flu season and potentially save lives!
