Last sunrise
This morning I got to shoot with my good friend Helen for the last time (for a while anyway) as she is heading out to Chicago to start a new life with her grandkids and it could not have been a more perfect send off. The skies that had started out a little bald, filled in with some beautifully reflective clouds and then the biggest sun just loomed up from the horizon behind the lights. Helen has been my shooting partner over the years and I will miss her dearly and although you don’t know her you might miss her too as she’s the one who drags my butt out at 4 am in the morning…so you might not see another sunrise photo from me for a while lol!! Here’s wishing you many great things ahead Helen!!

Rockport’s Fireworks and Illumination Night
Such a fun weekend coming up in Rockport!

Come and enjoy a day of fun in the town of Rockport! Start the morning at Farmers Market. Head over to Old Firehouse Trust and meet employees from Institution for Savings who will be handing out popcorn and free items. Paint your own lantern to help celebrate the day. Children can have their face painted. Everything is free.
Check out all the shops that have decorated their windows with lanterns. The town will have lanterns throughout. In Dock Square we will have live music starting at 2 PM until the show begins at 9. You can view the show from anywhere along the water. As always the show is weather permitting and the start time is, too.
As dusk descends on Rockport, settle in at Back Beach or anywhere along the shore to watch the fifth annual summertime fireworks display over Sandy Bay. The fireworks display will follow the Rockport Rotary Club’s Lobsterfest (3 to 7 PM), a unique, annual, outdoor dining and fundraising event at the Legion Bandstand, serving boiled lobster, clam chowder and more.
Visit facebook.com/RockportFireworks for detailed information.

AVP MAKES A FABULOUS SPLASH WITH “SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN”
Bravo and a standing ovation to the entire cast and crew of AVP”s “Singin in the Rain!!!” Don’t miss this wonderful romantic musical comedy playing Tuesday through Sunday at the Annisquam Village Hall.
“Singin’ in the Rain” is adapted from the 1952 movie of the same name. Set in Hollywood during the late 1920s, the musical tells the story of romantic leading man Don Lockwood, his best friend Cosmo Brown, struggling actress Kathy Seldon, and Lockwood’s leading lady Lina Lamont, whose hilarious voice makes her an unlikely candidate to star in talking films.
The Annisquam Village Players have once again outdone themselves with a fantastic cast of local talent, stellar directing, musical orchestration, choreography, sets, costumes, and lighting. New this year are Rick Blue’s filmed “talkies,” charmingly telling the story of the end of silent films and the coming era of talking pictures.
A witty and zany comedy, the play is perfectly cast. Leads Rockport High School senior Ben Fuller (Lockwood) and Gloucester resident and recent Pingree School graduate Andrew Murdock (Cosmo Brown) are a dynamic comic duo, with exceptional singing and dancing chops. The lovely Emily Whalen (Kathy Seldon), also a recent Pingree School graduate, sings and dances her way into Lockwood’s heart. She is the perfect antidote to Lina Lamont, the brash and villainous diva played by Victoria Fortune.

Behind the scenes star John Hentschel
It was wonderful to see old friends Mary and Jaye, and set designer Chicki with John and Jolene Hentschel.
Tickets may be purchased on line at annisquamvillageplayers.org or at the Annisquam Exchange.
Making Memories

Maggie, Alice, Rick from North Carolina
When walking out to Rafe’s Chasm on Tuesday ran into visitors from North Carolina. While talking Maggie, a lovely woman, realized I was with Good Morning Gloucester. Maggie, Alice and Rick have been visiting Cape Ann for 8 years and follow Good Morning Gloucester. Love meeting visitors. This family was so nice and enjoyed meeting them very much.
Soul Rebel Project Concert Castle Hill tomorrow & Zach joins in!
Soul Rebel Project will be playing tomorrow at the Thursday Night Picnic Concert at Castle Hill on the Crane Estate. It’s the 21st year for this summer concert series at Cranes, a Trustees property, 290 Argilla Rd, Ipswich, MA. Concerts are 7pm – 9pm and gates open at 5pm for the tailgate picnic part. Tickets are available for sale at the gate only: Members: $20/car; Nonmembers: $30/car; Walk-in, bicycle, & motorcycle: $10.
I’m psyched to hear that Zach Gorrell will be joining in. You may know Zach from his work at Sound Harbor Cape Ann Art Haven or Cape Ann Big Band. They just played Fiesta. He’s awesome! Of course, Gloucester knows Soul Rebel Project, too. And they just played during Fiesta at Minglewood.

The Thursday Night picnic concerts at Harbor Loop in Gloucester are free and held from 6-9pm. Tony Frontiero and John Rockwell & the Headlands are playing Harbor Loop tomorrow.
Enjoy some sights and sounds from Soul Rebel project

Ocean diamonds summer beach day
Seriously glistening summer day. Cape Ann SUP kypads are really holding up: we’re going on two years of steady use, after renting and taking lessons from Dominic. Gloucester is lucky to have several water sport shopping options. Besides Cape Ann SUP, we’ve had surf lessons, rented and purchased wetsuits (for guests, too) from Surfari on 210 Main Street. Cape Ann Divers in (Shaw’s) Cape Ann Marketplace is another place we’ve purchased various beach essentials and wetsuits.

Perfect! Toodeloos! is perfect sponsor for The Princess Bride HarborWalk summer cinema tonight
Toodeloos! and Island Art and Hobby at 142 Main Street is year round fun. They’ve consolidated two long standing creative and well curated independent local stores together into one space: both a fabulous local toy store and a professional art supply shop.
Toodeloos! is between the Birdseye and Winslow Homer HarborWalk story moment markers, and a short jaunt to the summer cinema at I4C2.

And from the HarborWalk marker at St. Peter’s park, it’s easy to check out the new murals by Danny Diamond at Cape Ann Brewery 11 Rogers Street!
