AVP MAKES A FABULOUS SPLASH WITH “SINGIN’ IN THE RAIN”

Bravo and a standing ovation to the entire cast and crew of AVP”s “Singin in the Rain!!!” Don’t miss this wonderful romantic musical comedy playing Tuesday through Sunday at the Annisquam Village Hall.

“Singin’ in the Rain” is adapted from the 1952 movie of the same name. Set in Hollywood during the late 1920s, the musical tells the story of romantic leading man Don Lockwood, his best friend Cosmo Brown, struggling actress Kathy Seldon, and Lockwood’s leading lady Lina Lamont, whose hilarious voice makes her an unlikely candidate to star in talking films.

The Annisquam Village Players have once again outdone themselves with a fantastic cast of local talent, stellar directing, musical orchestration, choreography, sets, costumes, and lighting. New this year are Rick Blue’s filmed “talkies,” charmingly telling the story of the end of silent films and the coming era of talking pictures.

A witty and zany comedy, the play is perfectly cast. Leads Rockport High School senior Ben Fuller (Lockwood) and Gloucester resident and recent Pingree School graduate Andrew Murdock (Cosmo Brown) are a dynamic comic duo, with exceptional singing and dancing chops. The lovely Emily Whalen (Kathy Seldon), also a recent Pingree School graduate, sings and dances her way into Lockwood’s heart. She is the perfect antidote to Lina Lamont, the brash and villainous diva played by Victoria Fortune.

Behind the scenes star John Hentschel

It was wonderful to see old friends Mary and Jaye, and set designer Chicki with John and Jolene Hentschel.

Tickets may be purchased on line at annisquamvillageplayers.org or at the Annisquam Exchange.
