Tomorrow morning at 9am, on her show 104.9FM radio show, “Curtain Up”, Aurelia Nelson hosts the multi-talented Nelson Bragg — percussionist, drummer, songwriter, vocalist for Brian Wilson and The Beach Boys 50th Anniversary tour.
Nelson will give us a glimpse into the L.A. pop scene and what it’s like to work closely with Brian Wilson and tour with the Beach Boys.
Here’s Nelson on percussion at Celebrate Gloucester 2010 with KBMG.

Before the show our own Senator, Bruce Tarr presented North Shore Music Theatre owner, Bill Hanney with a citation congratulating him for reviving the theatre on the anniversary of it’s 60th year in operation.
As you might expect, Sen. Tarr was a natural on stage, offering fun facts about the theatre, which opened in 1955 with “Kiss Me Kate.”

This anniversary inspired a very special evening for the 2015 Annual Meeting: a tribute to all of Action’s staff for so many years of dedication, engagement and –well 50 years says it all- sustainable programming!
Last night, the curtains were drawn at Shalin Liu Performance center, the massive screen dropped and we were treated to this short, great tribute video. Look closely at the old photos and history of Action, Inc. Write into the comments below if you can name the four people involved with Action in 1965. We’ll see if you’re right.
Kudos to the movie crew:
Jessica Benedetto, Action’s Director of Marketing & Planning
Megan Merlin, Action’s Project Coordinator
Grieg Cranna, Photographer
Adam Kooken, Videographer, Montserrat
Jessica and Megan organized the event. Willow Rest rocked the food. Speaking of rock, we were treated to the happiest musicians ever. Perfect sound and coolest set from Dan King and friends, with Erika Van Pelt adding powerful vocals.
Executive Director, Tim Riley, is retiring this year. He received the Lyndon Baines Johnson War on Poverty Award and promptly shared the award right back with everyone else.

This is a video I did about 11 years ago while working for the Virginian-Pilot and HamptonRoads.tv in Norfolk, Va.
An amazing friend and musician Todd “Tones” Jones produced and played on the track. He’s an amazing guitarist as you will hear. When I first heard this track, I immediately knew I had to create a Memorial Day tribute video. I filmed all the locations throughout the entire Hampton Roads area. (this was pre-HD, sorry) Please enjoy and share!
ARMY, NAVY, AIRFORCE, MARINES, COAST GUARD, NATIONAL GUARD…..THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE

Tomorrow (5/21), you can be in the audience when the James Montgomery Band records a new live CD right down the road at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre.
This concert (and the CD) will also raise money for James Montgomery’s foundation V is for Veterans, which focuses on helping disabled veterans. James donated most of the tickets to veterans organizations and the VA hospital, but you can still buy tickets here.
James will be joined by David Hull (from Aerosmith & The Joe Perry Project) on bass, Cliff Goodwin (from the Joe Cocker Band) on guitar and Jeff Thompson on drums. Young, rising country stars Whitney Doucet (who sang with Keith Urban) and Lexi James open.
Be sure to scream and shout and clap loud enough to be heard on the CD, so when it comes out you can get one and play it for your friends — fast forwarding through the songs and waiting for the applause, of course.
Here’s a video of James the last time he was at The Larcom. Notice the crowd in the middle of the song … this could be YOU!
Click here to read an excellent Boston Herald interview with James — especially the part where he talks about B.B. King!

Clapton also recommended that anyone not familiar with B. B. King’s work get his “Live at the Regal” album (get it on Amazon here). Here’s a live video of Sweet Little Angle. Not sure this video was recorded at the Regal, but it looks like it’s about the same time period.
Thank you B. B. King for your inspiration, your dedication and your love of music. It has changed us all!
Below is the best tribute I’ve read today. Our friend Victor Wainwright posted it on his Facbook Page this morning.
“To BB’s guitar, Lucille; I would just like you to know how thankful we all are for taking care of our loving mentor, Mr. BB King for all of these years. Night after night BB told us stories of you, and how you were always there through thick and thin. He said you were loving and loyal and never talked back… that you even saved his life. Then night after night we would hear YOU sing, for BB, and also for us… and HOW you sang!!!…. so beautifully, so clear, and with so much soul. When I think of all the audiences you’ve been held in front of, all the lights you’ve shined under, and all of hearts you’ve filed with hope and happiness, I am overwhelmed with awe and inspiration. Thank you for giving my mentor’s hands a place to rest, a place to play, and a place to call home. We will always love you Lucille. Thank you for taking care of our friend, of whom we will miss….. so very, very much. God Bless You. RIP, BB KING.”

John Cafferty singing one of his #1 hits with the audience at The Larcom in January photo Sheila Roberts Orlando
Most of you who follow us know that we present concerts just down the road at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre (among other venues).
This summer we’ll also be presenting concerts at The Cabot — and the first one we’ve put on sale is John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band with special guest Charlie Farren on Friday, July 31 — and it’s helping us answer two questions at once: “When are you bringing John Cafferty back?” and “When are you bringing Charlie Farren back?”
We figured this summer was the perfect time to party at The Cabot with these 2 high-energy rock stars, who haven’t performed together on stage for years.
It’s an All Ages show with reserved seats starting at only $25. Get your tickets now (RIGHT HERE) because this show will sell quickly!

Three months from today on Saturday, August 8th, The 4th annual Gloucester Blues Festival kicks summer into high gear at Stage Fort Park featuring top national blues stars, including the man who’s known as Hendrix of the Harmonica, Sugar Blue. You’ve heard his signature playing on “Miss You” by The Rolling Stones. (You didn’t think Mick played that harp did you?)
What kills me is how much cheaper the tickets are if you buy them in advance — only $28 (GET TICKETS HERE) as opposed to $40 at the gate. So stop what you’re doing right now and GET A PAIR OF TIX FOR YOUR MOM (and a pair for yourself too).
Here’s Sugar Blue live (Ooooh, what a tight band he’s got too!)
And here’s the Rolling Stones’ multi-platinum hit “Miss You” — you don’t see a harp in Mitch’s mouth, do you?

Last month (in this post) I pointed to the roots of today’s music.
And a few weeks ago (in this post) you saw the 2nd movement of Beethoven’s 7th Symphony used in Academy-Award winning film, The King’s Speech.
So to help you get ready for tomorrow night’s powerful Cape Ann Symphony concert (Get tickets here), I’ve put a few other films and videos using this iconic music at the end of this post.
In addition to Beethoven, they’ve invited Boston Symphony Orchestra father and daughter team Richard and Erin Svoboda as soloists for Michael Gandolfi’s Double Concerto for Clarinet and Bassoon. Plus you’ll hear an overture by Rossini, the most popular opera composer of his time.
Dance, dine and cruise historic Gloucester Harbor with 5-time Grammy nominees Roomful of Blues aboard the Beauport Princes Cruise Ship. Your ticket includes the concert PLUS a Gloucester Harbor Cruise and Party Buffet featuring their world famous Lobster Rolls! A full cash bar is available aboard the cruise ship.

I’m not even necessarily a Johnny Depp fan. But his portrayal of Whitey Bulger in Black Mass is chilling.
So next year when he wins you can say your boy Joey called it. I’ll take Johnny Depp vs the field and I don’t even know who the field is, that’s how strongly I feel about it!
Here’s the trailer, tell me if you agree-
