Here’s Linda Scott doing what she does- making someone feel good.
Linda does Reiki, reflexology and chair Massages at The Cape Ann Farmer’s Market and in her studio above the Schooner’s Market on Eastern Ave in Essex. You could see every person as they got up off that chair seem completely relaxed and they had that “ahhhhhh” look on their faces.
Calle age 10 and Olivia age 12 are a couple of young designers who have created some beautiful and functional snack clips and magnetic clips. 5 clips for $5 with $1 from every sale going to brain tumor research.
Olivia lost her dad Kirk at the young age of 47 on March 27, 2008 after a 13 month battle with brain cancer. Olivia and Calle thought that giving back a portion of the proceeds would be a good way to give back and to help find a cure.
I bought some for The Bean and Snoop Mad and they totally give them two thumbs up.
When you see young entrepreneurs like this it renews hope in the younger generation.
If you would like to find out how you can get some of these awesome snack clips (and who can ever have enough awesome snack clips) you can email them at friendclips@yahoo.com or you can head down to the Cape Ann Farmer’s Market next Thursday.

David has graced GMG pages with many photos of Gloucester Street Scenes and events.
Check back later in the week (if you already don’t check in multiple times daily here at GMG) to see if you were featured in his Sidewalk Bazaar picture series.
Pictured below is hake. Hake is commonly used in fish cakes. It’s a good white meat fish.
Back when we used to handle fish an old time fisherman- Leo the Flounder would hang out in the mornings and tell old waterfront stories. He spent a good part of the last ten years of his life down the dock, sipping coffee and keeping us informed on what was happening around town. He was a character a real waterfront character and I miss him.
Anyway, about twice a year Leo would make a big pan of (poopieties) – not the right spelling but sounds exactly the way it is spelled. Poopieties were hake fish cakes fried up in the good Italian olive oil.
When we had a big trip of hake we would give Leo a couple of steakers (large hake) and he would fry up a batch. The thing I loved about them and I’ll never forget was the amount of garlic he would use. He’d try to kill you with the garlic. We would normally be working so hard that we would pound down a ridiculous number of poopieties and then as the day went on and you were sweating you could smell it coming out your pores.

Rebranding Gloucester
It’s been too long since I updated this blog but life has been busy. Much to my surprise (and delight) the knitting book launched in March has been a big success and I’m very, very happy to say I haven’t blogged because I’ve been busy with that. But it’s time to post about my latest project.
The City of Gloucester, which I love, is going though tough economic times, like many of us. One of the hardest decisions the mayor had to make was to eliminate the position of Director of Tourism. This left the tourism council with a tough problem, how to maintain their web site. They asked for volunteers and I raised my hand.
As I familiarized myself with the web site I saw a lot of problems with it. It is loaded with good information but is not particularly attractive (it suffered from too many cooks…), loads slowly and is not particularly enticing.
Because I love Gloucester and all it has to offer I contacted two of my fellow lovers of Gloucester, Jay Albert, the photographer who maintains Cape Ann Images, and Joe Ciaramitaro, of Good Morning Gloucester. “Let’s make an awesome web site that really promotes our city,” I said. “Count me in,” they said. Thus began the redesign to show the world the Gloucester we love in the hopes it will entice people to come here.
Once we had the site underway, Jay and Joe supplying the images for my design and organization, we approached the Tourism Council. The response was very positive. This is the new home page which features audio and a Flash video you have to visit the site to see.
Many of the pages have been completed but we still have work to do. But the main objectives are to 1.) show the many amenities Gloucester has to offer including activities, culture, dining, shopping, etc. and 2.) to provide as much information as possible that will allow those planning their vacations to consider Gloucester as a desirable destination.
As a further enhancement we are adding a new, sexier URL: www.iLoveGloucester.com. Right now it points to the test server but eventually it will be attached to the actual site along with the exisiting URL.
So, we have work to do but progress has been exciting. We have a fantastic product in our beloved city, packaging and marketing it is the challenge. Take a look at the site and let us know how we’re doing: iLoveGloucester.com
It should be noted that Kathleen did a vast majority of the work on the site. She is incredible and gives a ton of her time and energy into promoting the city we love.
Yesterday I stopped up to see Bobby Ryan, half of the Ryan and Wood Team and a good friend of the family. The boys are doing something special up in Blackburn Park. Something our entire community can be proud of.
They are one of only three distillers in Massachusetts. Crafting spirits-vodka, gin and rum to exacting standards.
Great FOB Frank Ciolino made this banner for us to put on the truck for the Block Party. It is the award winning logo design by Beth Swan. Beth is an incredible graphic/web media artist. You can check out her site here-
Block Party Kudos to Our BP Committee membersVickie and PeterVan Ness, Jackie Hardy, Erika Hansen, Linn Parisi, and Janice Lufkin Shea for working as the usual killer team to make things happen.
Special thanks to some unsung heros who also helped tremendously during the event- Erika Hansen’s husband Dave, Linn Parisi’s husband Nick, FOB Frank and Joey Ciolino, Rick Moore and Donna Ardizzone who walked the street at the end of the night picking up cigarette butts and trash along the way to leave the street in better shape than what we found it even after the huge number of people that turned out for the event.
Kathy Middleton, Mike Hale and Mark Cole for providing extra barrels which cut down on the amount of trash which otherwise would have overflowed onto the sidewalks without the extra barrels.
Thanks to all the GMG fans who stopped by to say hi and introduce yourselves and pick up stickers. Don’t forget to send in those Gloucester Sticker pics for posting on these pages!
Thanks to Joe Aiello and Miles Schlicte for working with the merchants and restaurants to insure that all of the requirements of the special permits were met.
Thanks to the entertainers-musicians, dancers, DJs and media presenters. thanks to Jay Albert and Steve B for helping to set up the media presentations along with Frank and Joey Ciolino.
Thanks to the local artists who helped fill the street with their incredible art.
Thanks to Blackburn Performing Arts and Elliotts at the Blackburn for providing the space and electricity for the bands in the West End.
Nancy Goodman and Jim Gudstadt who helped the bands set up.
Thanks to seARTS and Kat Valentine for sending out the word to the local art community via the seARTS newsblast.
Thanks to the merchants for staying open and welcoming people to Gloucester.
Thanks to Charlee Bianchini from the Beacon and Ray Lamont from the Times for helping us get the word out. Also the Chamber of Commerce for putting it in their weekly newsletter.
Thanks to Ambie and son for the fantastic sausage sandwich at teh end of teh night when I thought I was gonna drop.
Thanks to Rockport National Bank for sponsoring the flyers and Rick Moore and Donna Ardizzoni for sponsoring the banners.
Thanks to Ringo Tarr for lighting and Steve Noble who is always willing to help out.
Thanks to the licensing boards and the board of health and Mayors office for getting behind the event.
I don’t get political on these pages but I would just like to say that when it comes time for elections that my friend and Block Party Committe member Jackie Hardy deserves your vote.
She works tirelessly and without agenda for the betterment of our community. Without her guidance as far as regulations and knowing how to go about things the event probably wouldn’t be as successful as it is.
If I forgot anyone I’m terribly sorry. I’m at work with three and a half hours sleep.
