Cape Ann TV Annual Special tonight 10:30 on Channel 12

Last month we told you about Cape Ann TV’s Annual Meeting, which they filmed and it airs as a special tonight at 10:30 p.m. Channel 12.

“Why would I want to watch an annual meeting?” you ask.  Well, this is not your average annual meeting.  It’s fun.  Allen Estes and I were among 4 producers who talked briefly about our experiences and showed clips from our shows (Local Music Seen in our case).  The other producers were Kim Smith who wowed us with clips from her spectacular butterfly movie that premieres Friday at Cape Ann Community Cinema (more on that here); Shaun Goulart, who’s tale of how he came to make his thriller is almost a thrilling as the movie itself; and John Ronan, who has the longest running show on Cape Ann TV and offered us a wonderful surprise in his clips.  Here’s a taste of what you’ll see:

If you miss it tonight, you can catch it again Saturday 6/22 at 5pm and Monday 6/24 at 9pm.

One of the things Allen talked about is how the music scene in Gloucester and Cape Ann is growing.  Proof that he’s right can be witnessed this weekend with over 50 live shows to choose from starting tomorrow.  See the complete live music schedule here.

Dennis Brennan, Matt Stubbs and Dave Mattacks join Dave Sag’s Blues Party @ The Rhumb Line – 8:30-11:30

Thursday June 20th  8:30-11:30

Dave says,

Our unsub this week is none other than the fabulous Dennis Brennan, noted vocal meister, and master of the GeeWhiz clef. He’s got to be the most interesting and talented singer around these parts. Plus, he’s a walking musical encyclopedia of all styles and tunes. He’ll clean your ears out! And the chicks dig him! So do I!
He’ll be backed up by the fabulous Matt Stubbs on glitar. No slouch, he. Makes things come alive. And then there’s Dave Mattacks, on drums.  The Atomic Clock needs no introduction, unless you’ve been in a coma for many years. I might slip into one just trying to keep up.. I feel really honored to play with these guys. Pretty lucky, too. Don’t miss it. Remember we start at 8:30 now.
And thank you again for your continued support. We’re nothing without you.

Last week we posted that Louise Mosrie is back on Cape Ann this Saturday to play at Old Sloop and since her first trip to Cape Ann was to record a special show of Local Music Seen with Allen Estes, we felt it fitting to reprise that show this week.

You can see it tomorrow (WED) at 6:30 pm, Friday at 1:30 pm and Sunday at 6 pm on Cape Ann TV channel 12.

This show will get you psyched to see her live.  Even though her TV performance reaches through the screen and grabs your heart, there’s just no substitute for her live shows.  This one is likely to sell out so get your tickets now -right here.

Music & Meditation in the Meetinghouse – June 23 @ 7:30pm

Music,Meditiation,Mindfulness

SUNDAY EVENING, JUNE 23, 2013 at 7:30pm in the GLOUCESTER UNITARIAN UNIVERSALIST CHURCH

Corner of Middle and Church Streets
Open to the Public with Free-Will Offering
Social Gathering Afterwards with Refreshments

The Gloucester Unitarian Universalist Church is pleased to announce the first in a series called Music & Meditation in the Meetinghouse (MMM) that will offer Cape Ann residents and visitors a unique and varied experience of beautiful music and relaxing meditation in the Gloucester’s oldest standing church.  It will be held in the candle-lit, early-evening setting of the church’s 1806 Sanctuary with golden light beaming through the stained glass windows.  Lanesville’s Mindfulness Meditation practitioner Dr. Michael Bresnan will team up with the Dorymates, Tony Hilliard and Janet Ruth Young, presenting a combination of meditation and heartfelt music for guitar and voice.

Following the event there will be a collation with light refreshments in the church’s Entrance House, giving participants the opportunity to meet the leaders and each other in a convivial atmosphere.  The Sanctuary is accessible for persons with disabilities via the Church Street Entrance.   A free-will offering will be received and everyone is welcome.

 Meditation Description:

Mindfulness has its roots in Buddhist meditative practice, and involves bringing one’s attention to subjective present moment experience without judgment – coming out of the world of conceptual thought in which we tend to spend most of our lives and connecting once again with the actuality of our life in the moment. By opening to experience just as it is, we create the space for life to unfold in a very different way. This practice has been the focus of a tremendous amount of scholarly research in recent years, with numerous studies demonstrating profound improvements in physiological and psychological health, even over short periods of practice.

Dr. Bresnan, whose practice is newly established in Lanesville, will lead the group through an introductory experience in mindfulness meditation, which will serve as an invitation for attendees to connect in a more vivid way to the musical portions of the program.

JOYCE YANG replaces Dubravka Tomsič June 30 @ Rockport Chamber Music Festival

This just in from Karen Herlitz @ Rockport Music:

Dubravka Tomsic Cancels, Replaced by Joyce Yang

We regret that, due to an inflammation of her right hand, Dubravka Tomsič must cancel her concert as part of the Rockport Chamber Music Festival on Sunday, June 30, at 5 pm.

JOYCE YANG
Fortunately, we have engaged the remarkable young pianist Joyce Yang who wowed audiences earlier in the Festival in her performance with the Jupiter String Quartet to perform in a solo recital. The Washington Post exclaims Yang’s, “poetic and sensitive pianism…(is) capable of hurling thunderbolts.” Ms. Yang will perform the following program:

Scarlatti: Sonata in D major and Sonata in A minor
Currier: Scarlatti Cadences and Brainstorm
Schumann: Fantasiestücke, Op. 12
Rachmaninoff (arr. Wild): Dreams, The Little
Island, and Vocalise
Rachmaninoff: Sonata No. 2 in B-flat minor

Tickets will be made available on June 21 once current Dubravka Tomsic ticket holders have an opportunity to respond to the cancellation announcement.  Click here for details.

Here’s a taste of the acclaimed young Joyce Yang bringing Rachmaninoff to life at the New York Public Library:

14 live shows ~ decks, schooners, restaurants, bars ~ music all day!

One of the best reasons to live in Gloucester is that when the weather finally turns nice, it’s outdoor music galore.  Case in point: today you can soak in music on 4 decks, a schooner, at Shalin Liu with the ocean backdrop and a dozen restaurants/bars, many on the water and/or with outside dining.  Here’s a taste of Michael O’Leary singing Celtic music on the Lannon.  Not sure if there are any tickets left for today’s music sail, but you can call 978-281-6634 and find out.

After the sail, get ready to dance & party with Boston Magazine’s Best Local Band, Three Day Threshold at the Rhumb Line tonight at 9.  Here’s a video of them at the Paradise in Boston.  Video sound isn’t great, but you get the idea (click here if you want good sound).

Having these guys in Gloucester is BIG.

See complete live music lineup here.

Nashville rising stars Louise Mosrie and The Twangtown Paramours @ Old Sloop next Saturday

poster-130622-crop-for-gmg

Louise Mosrie’s songwriting is riveting; her performance is captivating.  Every song tells a story that touches your heart.  Here’s a great quote about her that sums it up:  “…basically, she’s William Faulkner with a guitar.” – Rich Warren, WFMT-FM Chicago

Last year Louise took time out from her tour to tape Local Music Seen with Allen Estes.  Here’s my favorite song from that show — gave me the chills from the control room.

More Louise Mosrie videos here.

Andrew Clark joins The Dave Sag’s Blues Party @ The Rhumb Line ~ This Thursday 8:30 -11:30

DSC04814

Let’s welcome back that Tootin’ Torquemada of the Tenor, Mr. Andrew Clark. Last time he was here, I had to shave my eardrums! A.C. has a knack for taking familiar songs and twisting them until they scream “uncle!”  You never know what’s going to show up underneath  that  rock. Be ready! He’ll be bringing along his longtime buddy, Mr. Dan Cademartori, or, Deputy Dan, to flail the guitar. A new guy for me. Then again, there’s Mr. Roger Brocklebank, erstwhile Madhouse® drummbler, to flail all that grain. Me, too, on bass. Rheumer has it that dark, hooded saxophonists may show up and proceed to wreck the joint. Be prepared!
Don’t forget our new, improved hours: 8:30 to 11:30. And, as always, Thank You for your continued support.
