CROSSWALK ART: next two site specific Justin Desilva public art

Cat Ryan submits-

Hi Joey

Justin Desilva’s 20 part work of art is titled, Every Picture Tells A Story. His crosswalk art enlarges and interprets HarborWalk story moment content through a combination of digital paintings that he’s printed and combined with long stretches of color field painted sky.

Here’s one by the Gloucester Lyceum & Sawyer Free library for the Samuel Sawyer story moment #31, an abstraction of the exterior and trees.

Cathy Kelley submits-

Five years ago our friend Mark Miller was diagnosed with ALS. He and his wife Martha came up to Cape Ann yesterday and we were able to spend an amazing day out in the sunshine–we had lunch at the Brew Pub where they made a place for us to sit out on the deck overlooking the harbor. Hearing Mark and Martha speak about their experience was moving and touching. We had fun laughing about how much fun the ice bucket challenge has been, and also how incredibly important all the public support has been to people living with ALS and to their caregivers and loved ones. They talked from first hand experience about how donations people give also make an indescribable difference in the lives of people with ALS and about how the research partly funded by the donations is being used to hopefully beat this disease! Finally, we’d like to send a special thank you to the city of Gloucester—we ended the day by exploring the Harbor Walk. We felt so proud and appreciative for the Walkway, which helps make it possible  for everyone to enjoy being out in the sun, looking at the ocean and watching the boats come in and out.

ALERT: Only a few VIP Tickets left for James Montgomery’s Celebrate Gloucester Benefit Concert FRI AUG 22

20140811_132207As promised, we always tell FOBs before good stuff sells out and we’re almost out of VIP seats for James Montgomery’s Celebrate Gloucester Benefit for The Open Door on Friday, August 22nd at Cape Ann Marina’s Waterfront Pavilion (the BIG tent).  VIP seats are right up front, plus you get Exclusive Early Entry and the Celebrate Gloucester Commemorative VIP Laminate in the picture.  Tickets available here.

Even if you miss VIP (which you probably will if you don’t get them by tomorrow morning), you can still get a great seat inside the tent.  We’re setting up the stage and seating so everyone gets a great view — and if the weather is good you can even sit at a table under the stars.

HATS OFF to the Annisquam Village Players for a Spectacular Peter Pan

Sofia Gadbois, Elliot Davis, Jared Gilman, and Charlie Rousmaniere

A huge shout out to co-directors Terry Sands and Mary Curtis and the outstanding cast and crew of the Annisquam Village Players for once again creating a fabulously wonderful summer theatre event. The cast is stellar, the production flawless, and every act left you wondering, how can they top that! The children in the audience were especially mesmerized, rooting audibly for Peter Pan (played by the tremendously talented Elliot Davis), and grumbling loudly at the villainous and hilarious Captain Hook (featuring Rick Gadbois). Three Cheers and a Standing Ovation for All!!!

It was a joy to see families working together both behind the scenes and performing on stage, including the funny, fun, and talented Rousmaniere’s Will, Charlie, Julia, and Jack (Dana, when will we see you on stage?); the always entertaining Rick Gadbois with his beautiful and accomplished daughter Sofia (what stage presence!); and the charming Think Pink Flamingo, Lidi Sands, with her adorable son, Baby Rabbit Alex Sands.

With an extra special shout out to Terry and Mary for their superb direction and casting, Krisitna for her beautiful choral direction, to Chicki and her crew for yet another year of ingenious sets, to Deej Viau for brilliant choreography, and to Cem Uslu and orchestra for exquisite music. And with a special note of appreciation to Linette and her helpers for their always kind assistance to all.

An extra, extra shout out goes to costume designer Hanna Anderson and the very adroit costume committee for their utterly fantastic ensembles. Every costume was pitch perfect and beautifully executed. Hanna grew up in Annisqaum and now lives in Boston. She is only 21 years old. We’ll be saying—we knew her when…

And, to AVP’s newest stage manager, GREAT JOB Deb Michel!

Lisa Marie tonight @ The Dave Sag’s Blues Party. 8:30 to 11:30 8.7.2014 Put on your dancing shoes!

dave sag rl moOur medulla oblongation series continues this Thursday with the arrival of Ms. Lisa Marie, prepped and rarin’ to go. If I gotta tell who she is, you gotta sleep under a smaller rock. Without doubt, she’s the doyenne of all things musical, including her choice of material as well as vocal gurglings. She can sing in any key ,and unlock all the secrets. She’s invited along some groove postulates, too. First, there’s Scott Marshall, on gootar, a new guy for me, but the reviews have been excellent. Then there’s Johnny Juxo (don’t you love that name?), keyboard centipede and a regular jackhammer on the ivories. Love his style! Add a dollop of Dana Bonardi, on skins and the confused ramblings of Salmon Dave Sag, on base, and what do you have? A most memorable evening!lm-bw21

But wait! There’s more! I’ll be back that Saturday filling in on bass for that magical Queen of the local scene, Ms. Mari Martin. Always a great dance party. Not sure who’s showing up, but Mark Earley will be there with his honkaphonium. I can’t wait!
And, of course, for  the Serutan® and Depends© crowd, I’ll be at the Rose Baker Senior Center on Monday. From 1 to 3 the Old Salty Jazz Band attempts to kick up its heels without needing physical therapy. If you’re free, you should see this before you have to go there by necessity.
And don’t forget, next Saturday is the 3rd Annual Globster Blooze Festival, in Stage Fort Park! A great lineup! I’ll see you there!
