Alchemy Now serves Brunch Saturday and Sunday…Great Food
Sculpture meetingDear Friends:
The meeting that was to have been held this Saturday, April 11, on the location of the proposed sculpture by renowned artist David Black at Solomon Jacobs Park has been cancelled.
The mayor has indicated she wants to have a full discussion of a City arts policy before making a decision on how to proceed with the acceptance and installation of David’s generous gift.
A city-wide forum to begin the process of developing the arts policy will be held in May. I encourage you to attend that meeting and be heard on the matter. I will provide further details as they are available. For now, however, the project is on hold.
Thank you all for your attention to this matter and your care for our city.

The beautiful, beautiful Easter desserts and confections are all hand made by Maria Cracchiolo, including the marzipan lambs! The refrigerator was bursting with special orders and it was a treat to see Maria’s lovely (and wonderfully delicious) Cassata Siciliana in a range of sizes.
Maria’s family is oftentimes there, hard at work alongside her, and especially during the holidays. Pictured with Maria is her husband, Giuseppe Cracchiolo.

Silly fun at Alexandra’s Bread! I can’t believe how reasonably priced is the charming set of six glasses–Alexandra really keeps her prices affordable. Always a pleasure to pop into Alexandra’s Bread ~ thank you John and Alexandra!!
That is Sooo Cute!
Mayor Sefatia Romeo Theken is looking for YOUR opinion regarding Gloucester’s Summer Block Parties. One idea on the table is to close Main Street to vehicle traffic EVERY SATURDAY in July and August.
What do you think? Please take the survey (CLICK HERE) and help shape the future of fun in downtown Gloucester this summer!
This survey closes next Wednesday, April 8th at 11pm — so please don’t wait.

The reason the header in the upper left corner reads “Don’t believe your eyes” is because of our 200+ lots we always have at our auctions, we only get to post a small percentage of photos. And since auction lots come in right up until the day of the sale, there are always a lot of surprises. And often the best items in the auction, are not even shown in the photos.
This will be another one of our CASH AUCTIONS, so please know that CASH will be the only accepted form of payment.
Here’s what the cat has dragged in so far:
ART: A large o/c painting of a ship by Robert Alexandar, vintage lithographed calendars from the Cape Ann Tool co. of Rockport, MA, an etching by Geo. Harvey Wainwright of Annisqaum, & more paintings, prints, antique photographs & tintypes etc.
Over 1,500 antique postcards including small town New England cards, cards of Gloucester, MA, Newburyport MA, beautiful Victorian embossed Christmas postcards, some real-photo cards, military cards & more.
Silver Morgan Dollars & other collectible coins, a large bucket of antique keys, a beautiful fossil & amethyst crystals, primitives, antique tools, sea-glass, paperweights, ephemera, jewelry, pottery, porcelain, lamps, decorating items, fabrics and much more!
We’ll have our usual 200+ lots crossing the block.
Please bring your own boxes and packing.
There’s no snackbar on the premises, but we’re tucked in between Dunkin Donuts & The 525 (Magnolia’s great new restaurant!)

A sweetly random sign to come upon while walking our Rosie at Niles Beach this morning.
Love Niles Beach!
LOVE was found just below the high tide line, which makes me wonder how the letters stayed in place because a fellow dog walker mentioned it had been there for a few days. Whatever the case, thank you to whoever made it!

Dave says,
This Thursday let’s welcome back Gloucester’s own Bobby Davis aka Johnny Carwash for another groovy night of surf toons and other related guitar ruminations. Bobby’s the best! With his effervescent style he’ll have you on the floor writhing with abandon. Along with David “Doc” Vincent on the skins, the circle is complete. We’ll be re-creating all your memories that were playing on your 8-track while you were losing your virginity. Don’t miss it!

Welcome adorable chix!
Backyard Growers was kind enough to allow GMG to photograph Main Street’s newest residents (albeit temporary). There are four different families of chickens, with a triplet in each. The babies must be sold in groups of three because, as Meghan explained, when a new baby chicken is introduced to a flock, if they don’t come with their own posse, they may be bullied by the flock. The four chicken families are Rhode Island Reds, Silver and Gold Laced Wyandottes, Buff Orpingtons, and Easter Eggers, which lay blue eggs!
Buff Orpington is on the left, Easter Egger on the right (I think)
Lara and Meghan have named each family of chicks after a TV show, Downton Abbey and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, for example, and each chicken is named after a character in the show. See Backyard Growers Facebook page to find out the names of the chicks and visit their beautiful new website for more information on the Cutest Fundraiser Ever!
