I Think He’s Gonna Need A Bigger Boat

We're waiting for you Mr. Morrison!

With all the Hype of The Sighting of a Great White Shark off of Gloucester by Seven Seas Whale Watch  and the upcoming Blackburn Challenge. GMG’s Thoughts and Prayers go out to our own Paul Morrison. Paul will be braving the Shark infested waters of cape ann next weekend in his quest to finish the 20 mile round the Cape Race in record time in a Kayak. A Kayak? Unfortunately Paul has been fatting himself up with a intense tour of Cape Ann Restaurants and Martini Bars. Biologists have speculated that warmer water and an abundance of bait fish have attracted these sharks to Cape Ann. But we all  know they were attracted to all the well fed Tourists and Locals who dine in all the great restaurants Cape Ann has to offer.

We all Toast Paul In his Quest;

“Here’s to swimmin’ with Bowed Legged Women!”

GOOD LUCK PAUL!

We’re all Rooting for you!

BRING SOME SHARK REPELLANT WITH YOU NEXT WEEKEND.

I think he's gonna need a bigger Boat

Maine Lobster Compost

Ed Collard brought this bag of Lobster compost and peat humus for flower and vegetable gardens.

At first I was going to make a joke about Maine lobster only being good as fertilizer but then I realized that those are the same lobsters migrating up and down the coast that we catch here in G Town so I couldn’t go there with the bit.

We here in Gloucester have Neptune’s Harvest fertilizer made out of fish gurry.  They have Lobster Compost made from lobster shells.

3 Cloves garlic; minced

TAMARIND KETCHUP:
In a large saute pan over medium-high heat, cook all ingredients until tender. Transfer the mixture to the jar of a blender and puree until smooth. Pour the ketchup through a fine sieve into a medium bowl. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

Delicious lobster bisque at the Lobster Pool Restaurant in Rockport! I ate everything else up before I could document it. What a delicious view relaxing in the swing too! They have Homie greeting cards and a lobster etched in the cement sidewalk. Click for the slideshow:

When Do We Do It Again?

Lattof Farm of Rockport; Monkey Bread

Lattof Farm opened on June 24 and I was too busy to stop for my favorite food product of all Cape Ann (besides lobster). Until this weekend. At 9:30 AM every morning the Monkey Bread (uppercase) comes out of the oven. This is not your normal monkey bread (lowercase). This has a wee bit extra sugar, butter, and cinnamon in it. Even if your kids find it and try to eat all the really gooey pieces the last piece will still be just as gooey as the first.

Unwrapped:

And then, like a monkey, no knife, just fingers, you pull a chunk off:

The 9:30 AM timing is not precise but I sometimes just keep driving by because you can see them on the shelf on the right-hand side top shelf. Go to the dump, drive by, maybe go circle around Dock Square. Getting them right out of the oven is killer but it is also the fear that there are ten other people circling the block and when you do stop the last one is placed in someone else’s shopping bag. That happened once and the tears would not stop …

Reconsidering my strategy for the Blackburn Challenge in ten days. It’s quite possible that the wind will be blowing and the boat will be rocking. I need more ballast. That’s where the Monkey Bread comes in. If I eat one of these every morning for the next ten days I think I will have plenty of ballast to make it around Cape Ann.

Tomorrow’s post will be of the Rockport bonfire. I can’t even look at those photos right now, too hot.

Oysters at The Rudder!

I’m not sure there’s a better way to spend an afternoon than with a pile of fresh oysters and some cold adult beverages.

Ice Cream! It’s a Snack-tivity!

One of my favorite summer snack-tivities is getting ice cream at Harbor’s Point Ice Cream and snacking while walking along the boulevard toward Blyman Canal to see the bridge open (what an awesome thing about Gloucester!) and watch the boats. I always usually see a cormorant fishing too…

Susan Beaudette

Susan Beaudette, the owner, who gives me new ice cream with a smile when I immediately flop it onto the floor. I love that they do kiddie size too, which really is enough for me to split with my wee son. Enough is an important concept when it comes to ice cream.

Menu bits… there’s more, yogurt, and candy, but I didn’t take photos of everything:
