This www.gloucesterwebcam.com local webcam portal project was an idea I had last year to have as many webcams streaming from local businesses or organizations as possible which highlight the incredible vistas that we as people that live and work here get to enjoy each and every day.

The idea was to have the organization install the webcam, have them embed the webcam feed on their own websites as well and have a link to each business website on the Gloucester webcam portal website to showcase their business as well.

Tim Blakeley from Gloucester Bytes provided the initial installation at ridiculously cheap cost because he believed in the project.

Gloucester named one of 5 Eco-Friendly Towns in America

John McElhenny of Matter Communications writes:

Joey,

Good news: Rand McNally and USA Today have just named Gloucester one of 5 Eco-Friendly Small Towns in America! It’s a nice honor for our city. The article is here.

Rand McNally asked on Twitter this week for nominations of eco-friendly cities. When we tweeted back Gloucester’s designation as a “Green Community” in 2010 – and this GoodMorningGloucester post about it — the editors liked it and included Gloucester in their Top 5 list. As usual, when something positive is happening in Gloucester, GoodMorningGloucester is involved!

Gloucester is still in the running for Rand McNally’s Most Beautiful Small Town in America 2012. If you haven’t voted already, click here and hit the green “Review and Vote” button. Let’s make Gloucester #1!

And the build-out continues!

Just wanted to update everyone that we had a great day on Monday at Art Haven’s new space, finishing building out some walls, getting the art materials thrift store cleaned out, and Sal Russo coming through HUGE by finishing repointing the back wall of our function room!

Here’s the awesome crew from Chris Fogarty Carpentry who generously volunteered their time to put up most of the walls in the space:

And the RAYS kids helping to get the thrift store ready!

And even a couple of the TAG kids stopping by to check out the awesome new space they’ll get to use! (Can you tell their excited?)

PAVEL KOSENKO’S BLOG (ENGLISH VERSION)

My Russian blog started to be visited by many English speaking readers after I posted the following post. I thought it would be great to give this post a special place in my new English blog, and let it be one of the first publications.

I regularly visit the www.shorpy.com in order to get inspired by the colors of Kodachrome photo film. This website is quite famous and contains a lot of archived photographs, I am sure many of you already know it. My wish was to make a personal selection of photographs I particularly like, in good quality. I hope that you will appreciate them as well. All the pictures have been taken during 1940-1943. Now just look at them and get inspired.

Tracey Muller Has Some Nice Things To Say About www.GloucesterWebcams.com

Tracey writes-

A Great Big Thank You to Joey and Good Morning Gloucester Webcams.

If you haven’t taken advantage of gloucesterwebcam.blogspot.com, I would put it on your priority list.  In just a few short months, it has become one of the top referrers to my hotel website and this is all from new visitors.  This is an effective way to advertise for free, every day and all year long.  It is easy to do and doesn’t cost a lot to set up.  Our virtual visitors really enjoy seeing the sites that we take for granted every day.  Visit the page now and take a tour all over Gloucester.

Thanks Joey.  You do good things for Gloucester.

Thank you for the kind words Tracy.  I really appreciate it.  It’s been fun working with the different businesses and the ones who embed the feeds onto their sites really get the best bang of how I envisioned it.  Much like you did on the www.bassrocksoceaninn.com website

I had lots of help from my tech guru Tim Blakeley at www.gloucesterbytes.com as well.  If it weren’t for him it probably wouldn’t have been half as successful.  Also my buddy John McElhenny who has helped promote it through the excellent work that he does on behalf of the city.

If anyone hasn’t visited GloucesterWebcams.com yet, click the icon below and feel free to bookmark it on your computer so you can always feel connected to Gloucester even when you are away from this place that we love so much.

Young Artist of the Week: Navaeh!

I’ve got another picturing poetry finished work for you this week – they’re just too good not to share! Also, check out the Art Haven web site for a new session starting next week with clay monsters, graffiti, and abstract explorations! Without further ado, here is a poem about Geckos written by almost 8-year-old Navaeh:

Big green eyes
That never blink
Geckos are more mysterious
Than you think

Geckos are found
All over the world
Rainforests, deserts, mountains & lakes
Gecko’s best friend is his cousin, the snake

They climb up the ceilings
And they walk across walls
But thanks to his sticky feet
He never ever falls

Some people don’t like geckos
Some people like ducks
But in southeast Asia
They are good luck!

The Day Has Finally Arrived- The Beaver Leaves Gloucester Railways for Her New Berth In Boston at the Tea Party Ship Museum Photos From Kathy Chapman

Kathy writes-

The day has arrived……The first of the three ships that will be a part of the new Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum will arrive in Boston Harbor on the Anniversary of the start of the American Revolution, Thursday, April 19 at 8:30am.

The Boston Tea Party event in 1773 is the single most important act that took place leading up to the American Revolution in 1775. The historic sailing vessel, the Beaver, will arrive on the 237th anniversary of the battle that began the American Revolution.

The completely restored and historically accurate hull of the Beaver will make it’s way down from Gloucester to Boston for the arrival at the new Museum. The Beaver will be towed to its berth at the Museum site in the Fort Point Channel. Once in place the masts will be stepped and the rigging will be completed.
