Here is another relic from Gloucester Fishing Industry Past, An Old Gorton-Pew Salt Cod Wood Box. I wonder if this box which now resides at Ron Gilson’s house ever spent time at our dock which was part of the Gorton-Pew Fisheries before it was Captain Joe and Sons property. Part II of my interview with Ron Gilson from his house comes at 8:00AM today.

While at Ron Gilson’s house I saw this poster sized picture of The Adventure coming into Gloucester Harbor under sail in 1988. What is interesting about the picture is that if you look at City Hall in 1988 it was surrounded by scaffolding under a reconstruction. Some twenty years later it was surrounded by scaffolding once again.

The wire that comes off the winch goes through this block and is attached to the doors which get lowered into the ocean as the cable wire gets let off of the winch spool.

On September 23, 2008 Mark Teiwes and I were granted special access to the Paint Factory. We documented it’s final state before the sterilization for the general public would take place.
Much thanks to Frank Ciolino who brought down a bunch of old photos of Gloucester from roughly 1980.
Maybe someone could identify the building that is to the left of Captain’s Courageous in the photo. I’m guessing it was the old Gloucester Grocery but I’m not sure. There is an alleyway that provides public access there now. In the post above this one, the Lat 43 sign is located on the left corner of the Captain Courageous building in this photo.

Geno sells these for $55. A bargain for something hand crafted, painted, and local. It’s even painted the official colors of the Lunenberg/Gloucester Dorys. There was one left last week so hurry down and get it! Look for the last part of the Geno Mondello interviews coming tonight.
