The Bean Takes Photos at The George Anderson Gallery Rockport

During our family day in Rockport last week the Bean and I took another Photo Safari.

We started out at The George Anderson Gallery.  George Anderson has many contemporary paintings with lobstermen and local scenes.

From George’s Website-

George Anderson is a contemporary artist specializing in marine / nautical, abstract, mexican, rural and urban motifs. George resides in Rockport, MA, where he owns an oceanside gallery. He is well known for paintings that reflect marine or nautical subjects found along the New England coastline.

He is most recognized for his “Gloucester Waterfront” Series, in which George conveys the lives of the port’s hardworking fishermen with bright colors and abstract shapes. His most recent motif “City Streets” is based on experiences during his many visits to Manhattan. A series of large oils on canvas, “City Streets” uses mixed media techniques which combine images of the streets with the objects collected from them.

Liz wanted to know what I would do next to my painting.  Nothing.  maybe I will sign it.  The gesture is a completely different ‘scene’ than the one I started with.  When I started to paint I did not know what was interesting about what I was observing.  I made one spot of color against another.  between conversations with students I painted and then ‘wham’ the dark shape pressing down on the center of the picture plane against the house caught my eye.

it’s all about the “F” word!

Chill Out!

It’s not what you think.

I love Quotations. Here are a few on “FUN

“there are worse things in life than having fun”                                                  Bill Harris

“If you obey all the rules, you miss all the fun”  Katherine Hepburn

“When the fun goes out of play, most often so does the learning”.   Joanne E. Oppenheim

“Creativity is about play and a kind of willingness to go with your intuition. It’s crucial to an artist. If you know where you are going and what you are going to do, why do it? I think I learned that from the artists, from my grandmother, from all the creative people I’ve spent time with over the years”.         Frank O. Gehry

Artists, Teacher Studio Opportunity!

From Deb Clarke;

I’m looking at this loft space in Gloucester MA to open the Debbie Clarke “School for Drawing” and studios.  There are 2 private studios that will be available for short term/long term rental and teaching space available to artists to rent for workshops, etc.  I would like to move in June 1st.  So, if you are looking for short term or long term studio space, please contact me as soon as possible to discuss your needs.  This is a second floor space with west light.  The windows work, so there is ventilation.  I am an oil painter and am looking for other painters, teachers.  email to me at elli01930@yahoo.com

Staying Coastal: Jan Walker Photography

Jan Walker has an exhibit in the gallery at the Unitarian Church, Rockport until May 31. A reception for the show this Thursday, May 6 from 5-7:30PM

I was walking by on Sunday in T-Shirt and sandals and Sunday service was milling about. They said I was dressed just fine so I stepped in to check it out.

I especially liked this:
Three board sailers in an obvious race in matched gear. The sails, the booms, the bottoms of the boards are identical. Why then is the racer who seems to be winning, actually winning? The bend of his knees seems to drive the port rail deeper? But these three could be heading for a mark that the left most skipper is really in the lead.

But the crazy thought that popped into my brain when I saw this because the resolution of the sails are so liquid, could I see the baby Jesus, or Mary, or Mother Theresa in these sails? Check them out. They are the most high tech material known to man and when wet they make for some translucent weirdness. Better than a piece of cheese sandwich or a cinnamon bun and not matched at all! Me, I can see Yoda and a bunch of other stuff rated PG or up.

The Unitarian church is that steeple that is tucked to the right of the big church in Rockport, 4 Cleaves Street, only about 30 yards up the hill from Toad Hall Bookstore.

Yep, Another One Of My Dream Rides-The Classic Ford Bronco

One day I’ll own one.  One Day.
