GHS Theatre Program Presents Well-Loved Classic, The Music Man

Sunday luncheon adds new twist.

Gloucester – May 17, 2010 – The Gloucester High School Theatre Program will present The Music Man, June 4 & 5 at 7:00 p.m. and June 6 at 2:00 p.m. in the high school auditorium. This classic American musical (book and music by Meredith Willson) features small town charm, tunes you can hum (including “Seventy Six Trombones” and “(Ya Got) Trouble”) and a con man reformed by the power of love – a real crowd pleaser.

40 students are involved in the production, with 30 onstage performers and 10 making up the backstage and technical crews. The production features a set designed and painted by seniors Eric Brown and Hayden Wilson and choreography by sophomore Katy Geraghty. A live orchestra consisting of both adults and student musicians will accompany the players.

Tickets for the performances are $7.00 ($5.00 for students). For more information please contact ghstheatreprogram@gmail.com.

New Lunch & Show Combination

In what they hope will become a new tradition, the GHS Theatre Program is partnering with Chef Reardon and his GHS Culinary Arts students to offer a buffet luncheon prior to Sunday’s matinee performance. The menu consists of baked stuffed chicken breast, rice pilaf, vegetable lasagna, salad, lemonade, ice tea, and cookies for dessert.

Reservations for the Lunch & Show combination are required by June 1st. Please contact Sue Kendall at tzscken@comcast.net or 978-290-9004. The cost is $20 payable at the door. The doors will open at noon, with lunch service beginning at 12:15.

Bob Viau Cape Ann Artist

A Call To Artists

From Bob Viau;
First and foremost, a big thank you for highlighting Cape Ann Artists.  I am responding to your “Call for Artists”.
Attached is a photograph and description of a sculpted 3 x6  relief  comprised of bronze, aluminum, copper and brass I created entitled “Philadelphia”.

There is quite a history behind this piece in that at the time I completed the work it went on display at a corporate office in Boston where a friend of mine worked.  His company was relocating and I was notified to pick up the piece.  When I arrived the next morning I discovered the sculpture was gone and only the brass frame remained mounted on the wall.  This sculpture of Philadelphia was nearly 400 pounds.  It would be no easy task to steal it but someone managed to do just that.  With the help of my friend and the police, the search was on.  I showed photographs of the piece to everyone.  No one had any information.  Completely discouraged, I knew I would probably never see the piece again.  Living in Gloucester and seven years later I get a phone call out of the blue from an old friend who was an electrician in the wharf buildings in Boston.  He says “Bobby, you know that sculpture of yours that was stolen? I have it”.  You can imagine the shock.  He explained he caught some guys moving it into an office building.  He told them it was stolen property and the name Robert Viau was sculpted into the back.  They handed it over and took off.  It turns out they were connected to an advertising agency that was located a few floors up from the Boston office it was originally displayed at.  When they heard the business was relocating, they came down in the night and stole it off the wall.  It is back now and currently for SALE for private or corporate collection.  The piece is listed at $13,500.  I am offering a 15% commission to anyone who can complete full sale of the piece.  All the work on my website is my own at www.studiovo.com .  Please visit my studio at the 121R at the East Gloucester Marina.

Quite An Honor- Thanks Sally Goldenbaum

Sally Goldenbaum a national bestselling author was kind enough to write in a little blurb in the acknowledgements about Good Morning Gloucester.  She writes inside the front cover of her new book “Moon Spinners “Joey Ciaramitaro and his Good Morning Gloucester blog, a daily feed which provides grist for my writing mill and keeps me in touch with life on Cape Ann.”

Pretty cool!  and she even spelled my last name right!

As an aside.  I know that you’re not supposed to start a sentence with and, but that’s the way it came out when I was thinking it and I feel like when I write I’m having a conversation with you, my reader.  So all the spelling and grammar nazis can all go to hell.  Thanks a bunch Sally!

From Deb Clarke;

hey there!
  i went to the Cape Ann Historical Museum on saturday afternoon to find that my paintings are not currently on exhibit.  Peter Vincent’s paintings greet you at the entrance to the Maritime Collection.  and in the upstairs hall, the bright wonderful world of Clara Wainwright.  There is a quilt of the world that is in progress.  the instructions say:  pick up a needle and make a stitch.  i will go back to do so, and i want to look at some etchings that caught my attention, as well as, the new aquisitions (2 bernard chaet seascapes are worth another look).

The Bean Takes Photos at The George Anderson Gallery Rockport

During our family day in Rockport last week the Bean and I took another Photo Safari.

We started out at The George Anderson Gallery.  George Anderson has many contemporary paintings with lobstermen and local scenes.

The Bean Takes Photos at The George Anderson Gallery Rockport, originally uploaded by captjoe06.

From George’s Website-

George Anderson is a contemporary artist specializing in marine / nautical, abstract, mexican, rural and urban motifs. George resides in Rockport, MA, where he owns an oceanside gallery. He is well known for paintings that reflect marine or nautical subjects found along the New England coastline.

He is most recognized for his “Gloucester Waterfront” Series, in which George conveys the lives of the port’s hardworking fishermen with bright colors and abstract shapes. His most recent motif “City Streets” is based on experiences during his many visits to Manhattan. A series of large oils on canvas, “City Streets” uses mixed media techniques which combine images of the streets with the objects collected from them.

and these are the paintings we did.  left 1,2,3:  Paul Frontiero.  center on clipboard:  Liz Bish.  next:  Debbie Clarke demo of a gesture painting reflecting my response to the color and feel of the morning. on right:  Tom Amend.  Last week painter Jeff Weaver stopped by and noted everyone was painting a different view.  This past Sunday we all faced the backlit hill with sun rising behind.  3/4 of the way through the class I introduced pthalo green into each of the students’ palette, showing them the cool/warm possibilities.
“Cripple Cove gesture” Copyright Debbie Clarke oil on canvas 12″x16″5/2/10

Liz wanted to know what I would do next to my painting.  Nothing.  maybe I will sign it.  The gesture is a completely different ‘scene’ than the one I started with.  When I started to paint I did not know what was interesting about what I was observing.  I made one spot of color against another.  between conversations with students I painted and then ‘wham’ the dark shape pressing down on the center of the picture plane against the house caught my eye.
