Man overboard 46 miles east of Gloucester

BOSTON- The Coast Guard is searching for a person in the water 46 miles east of Gloucester, Mass., Oct. 30, 2010.

Coast Guard Sector Boston received a report from the fishing vessel Miss Lyndsey II that one of their crewmen was missing, after he was witnessed falling overboard.

Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod launched a HH-60 rescue helicopter at 8:36 a.m. The helicopter is on scene and searching for the victim. Coast Guard Station Gloucester launched at around 8 a.m., and is expected to be on scene around 11 a.m.

The Coast Guard is also responding with the Coast Guard Cutter Sanibel, the Coast Guard Cutter Vigorous, and the Coast Guard Cutter Hammerhead. The Sanibel is currently on scene. The Coast Guard Cutter Hammerhead has been directed to launch and is expected to arrive later tonight with the Coast Guard Cutter Vigorous.

Sketchbook Project 2011

In creatively thinking about how I would protect my Sketch Book for this project, it took several weeks of reflection and experimenting before I decided what I would do. My main purpose was to protect the book. My second concern was to “keep it simple”. My life can be rather complex so I didn’t need to add to the chaos that can so randomly occur. Therefore, I now have a very simple, yet “artsy” cover for my Sketchbook.

Hopefully, you will be able to see the picture as I try to figure the wordpress technique of uploading photos and what happens to them after you have uploaded them And you thought us Artists just sit around and play all day ~ HUH! ~ Enjoy.

Art Rock Found! Coincidence?

Last Sunday while driving around the Back Shore I decided to stop at the Elks club Parking lot andĀ Sketch the scene before me on a Rock. Yeah, I know I’m Nuts.

I left it across the street from the Elks Club in the rocks where the Hotel has a sitting area.

I didn’t know my Son was going to bringĀ his friends to the Elks Club to reserve it for their Wedding next year. I posted the Rock I sketched on here on GMG about 11am. I got a phoneĀ call at 2:30pmĀ  from my son Paul the III telling me they found it. They thought my Son set it up, but he had no idea what I did that morning and I had no idea what he was going to do that day. (Strange ain’t it?)Ā after they reserved the Elks club they walked down the road to where I left the “Art Rock”

Here is the email my son sent me;

Hey Dad, Heres the Picture of them holding the rock. They found it when they walked across from the elks to see where their wedding pictures will be taken. We were all standing around it and tom said “that rock has your name on it” Everyone thought my son Paul set it up. But he did’nt know anything about it. Now that’s a Coincidence! Tom and Joselin areĀ getting married at Good Harbor Beach on labor day 2011Ā and having the reception at the elks.

I deconstructed the entire sketchbook. i have been hindered by the construction of the sketchbook provided by the sketchbook project. it reminds me too much of school exercise book or a journal. it kept calling for words, and i kept trying to make it into something. anyway, this is the condition on october 9. today, i re-packaged the book.

trying to reconstruct the sketchbook. the book is getting lumpy. people with egg allergies can not handle this bookā€¦iā€™m using egg glair. the book had to stand during the drying process, then the sun turned the page into something else.

perhaps this is a Book of Shadow. the idea resonates with my inner life. i just donā€™t like the way this looks.

itā€™s a sketchbook. it should not be precious. it should be of use.

AHOY there! Hereā€™s the weekly quickie on the Sketchbook Project.

The following images have yet to be added to the sketchbookā€¦..and what is currently new & already adhered is dryingā€¦.hooray for glue. So there are some images missing. Iā€™ll get to them soonā€¦.

Recently, my sketches have ranged from the classic portraitsā€¦..

ā€¦..the to the classically influenced oddityā€¦ā€¦

ā€¦..to the straight up weird.

I donā€™t really know why I always draw things growing out of my characterā€™s heads (???). I suppose I want to add a visual twist on what would otherwise be just another portrait.

The lower right, the pink lady surrounded by blue, is based on an image I saw on ffffound.com, which is an AMAZING site for visual inspiration, FYI. Originally, she was suppose to be depicted as a woman underwater, but with the way the dress is shaped, she looks like she is part of giant heart. This realization was actually pointed out by Josh. Naturally, Iā€™m delighted by thisā€¦.however, now Iā€™m afraid that all I draw will start being a combination platter of portraiture and anatomical parts. Frankin-pictures. Perfect for Halloween I suppose? Sweet.

Something Sketchy Welcomes New Member: Carol McKennaĀ

Hello, World ~

So glad you could stop by forĀ my new artistic adventure. I am so glad to be part of this wonderful team,Ā SomethingSketchy.Ā Everyone is working hard and sharing their creativity. When asked to join this adventure, I was so excited and naturally rather anxious. Me? They want me to join them! Well, here I amĀ Ā and will be sharing my artistic journey.

The latest event is the Sketchbook Project Tour 2011 which is a traveling art event. When you join, you receive a blank journal and are to fill it with your sketches by mid January and then send it in to join the Art House Co-op in Brooklyn NY. From there your sketchbook travels around the country and then returns home to theĀ Brooklyn Library where the journals will be housed for viewing. Yep, you have to let go of your ā€œart babyā€ and send her into the world. Mama Mia! ā€œHere I go again.ā€ Another brave adventure or as Helen Keller is quoted as saying ā€œLife is either a daring adventure or nothing.ā€

When I enrolled in the Sketchbook Project, I didnā€™t particulary like any of the themes they offered so I went with a random selection and the theme I now have is ā€œMake mine a doubleā€ ~ As I post different page projects you will see sketches on this theme. It is a theme that can be portrayed in many ways and is, in fact, providing me with the opportunity to expand my imagination and creativity. Just another one those ā€œlife hurdlesā€.
