Conomo Point

We spent a couple of hours on Conomo Point the other day.  It really is one of the most beautiful places I know.  The layers of colors between the grass, sand, water, trees, and sky are breathtaking.

Mass Audubon Opens Eastern Point to Local Visitors

Great news for those of us that love Eastern Point. Mass Audubon announced recently that it is now open for local visitors. A reminder to check local restrictions and guidelines before you visit any of the sanctuaries. Other sanctuaries have also opened. Mass Audubon provides additional information at this link.

This picture is kind of old, but, then again, it’s been awhile since I’ve been there!

Oh Deer!

As I have mentioned several times, we have lots of wildlife right in our backyard and we watch all sorts of critters throughout the days and seasons. Recently, we were treated to a short deer story develop in the marsh. These two appeared in the late afternoon sun out in the marsh acting a little bit like strangers cautiously checking one another out. The smaller one approached the bigger one and got a hoof-cuff for its trouble. I understand this is one way white tailed deer express dominance. Looked to me like it worked………

A hint of Normalcy as Wildlife Abounds — pat morss

Our weekend included a peaceful and excellent dinner out with friends on the deck of Oliver’s Harbor Restaurant, and a first sail of the season. And then there’s the local wildlife that continues to flourish.

Massachusetts wildflowers & weeds | sweet beach pea vs. bittersweet nightshade, Good Harbor Beach dune plants

Beach pea (also known as sand pea) is a sweet native wildflower (Lathyrus japonicus) that’s easy to spot in the dunes– from any of the walkways.

The flowers with the purple petals and yellow stamen daggers in the mix are “bittersweet nightshade” also known as climbing nightshade and woody nightshade. Solanum dulcamara is poisonous and invasive and thus weed.

The short story: There’s a lot less to chose from. Inventory is still 40% lower than last year even though it’s up 22% in the last 2 months. But just about everything is selling.
