ed. note: Another try. I am re-posting as I had some technical difficulties uploading content and scheduling remotely from Boston yesterday. 

On assignment “Gloucester Glows for Parade of Sail”: photographer Joseph Prezioso captivating coverage of the 2017 Gloucester Schooner Festival heralded a full color spread in the Boston Herald newspaper yesterday. Prezioso anchored his point of view from the Schooner Ardelle, embedded in the Parade of Sails action.

Goodbye Summer

It made me swoon a little bit that, after kind of a long day, my boys wanted to pull down to Granite Pier to “look at the full moon and think about how great summer was” before heading home and to bed on the night before school began.

Gloucester Olympians….all over age 55…competing this Thursday!

Hello Joey! 

Six Gloucester, and one resident each from Rockport, Ipswich, Essex & Manchester haven’t given up on their Olympic dreams and are all over 55 years of age! In fact, they will be participating in the 6th annual Element Care PACE (Program of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly) Olympics on Thursday, Sep 7th.

 

The residents from the towns listed above includes about four who are over 70 years of age, all residents will be competing on one of seven teams representing Element Care sites on the North Shore and Merrimack Valley. Approximately 80 participants will be competing in this year’s PACE Olympics which will consist of four games: Bocce, Bean Bag Toss, Fast Ball Relay and a new event, Healthy State of Mind.

 

Element Care Olympic athletes are young at heart and excited to be a part of this competitive event. All athletes practice 2-3 times a week, some even daily leading up to the event. Each team is supported by cheerleaders decked out in their team colors with noisemakers, necklaces and pompoms. Just like the international Olympic games, the PACE event offers a variety of games, multiple rounds of competition, intense training and athletes who come together to compete for the “gold” or in this case the PACE Olympic Trophy that will be awarded at the end of the event.

 

PACE at Element Care in Gloucester is a non-profit healthcare organization and the goal of its PACE Olympics is to promote wellness and a healthy, active lifestyle for older adults so they can live in their homes and communities, safely and comfortably, for as long as they can, keeping their stays in hospitals and nursing homes as minimal as possible.

THE FLIGHT OF THE MONARCH

OPENS AT GLOUCESTER STAGE

Gloucester Stage Company continues its 38th season of professional theater on Cape Ann with the world premiere of Jim Frangione’s Flight of the Monarchfrom September 8 through September 30 at 267 East Main Street, Gloucester, MA. Flight of the Monarch is the story of two middle-aged siblings, Sheila and Thomas, born, raised and still living in a small fishing town on the New England coast. This darkly comic play explores how siblings lives   are intertwined, what we owe to the people who know and love us best and, how family members’ needs and desires may push the boundaries of what we are expected to do for others. Directed by Gloucester Stage Managing Director Jeff Zinn, Flight of the Monarch cast features Gloucester Stage veteran and Rockport resident Nancy E.Carroll and Gloucester Stage newcomer J. Tucker Smith as siblings, Sheila and Thomas. Flight of the Monarch has had developmental workshops at Berkshire Playwrights Lab and at Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, MA, all directed by GSC’s  Managing Director Jeff Zinn. Flight of the Monarch was presented last September as a reading in GSC’s NeverDark Series. According to GSC Managing Director Jeff Zinn, “We received such an overwhelming audience response to the reading during NeverDark last fall that we felt the play would be a good fit in our 2017 season.”

An actor as well as a playwright, Jim Frangione has acted for over 30 years in New York and across the country, performing in the original Off Broadway production and the Alley Theatre & National Tour productions of David Mamet’s Oleanna. With the Atlantic Theater Company, he performed inRomance, Ghost Stories; The Night Heron; Hobson’s Choice; Hellhound On My Trail; Edmond and on Broadway in The Old Neighborhood. Regionally Mr. Frangione has appeared at the Humana Festival in The Delling Shore; Berkshire Theatre Festival in American Buffalo; Long Wharf in The Front Page; and Mark Taper Forum in Romance. His film credits include Joy, Transamerica,Spartan, Heist, State and Main, The Spanish Prisoner, Homicide, Suits, Claire Dolan and Maryam. Mr. Frangione is Co-artistic director of the Berkshire Playwrights Lab in Great Barrington, MA.
